I guess I should start eliminating any hint of Blues from my music then, since I'm South American and white...

:rofl::rofl:

This "cultural appropriation" thing is getting more and more ridiculous.

It's cultural appropriation at a festival. She's wearing it as a costume. It's disrespectful. She's also white. This has been debated many times and yet no one seems to get why it's inappropriate for a white person to wear dreads.

I strongly doubt if you are familiar with ACTUAL racism :rofl:

That's not only ridiculous, but simply racist IMO. That's anti-white racism in the current case. But the concept of "cultural appropriation" is a pure expression of basic racism. No matter against who it's being used...

When you put it on that way...

I figured expressing an opinion about Candice that wasn't totally licking her butt wouldn't be met with critical thinking. Nowhere did I say Candice is a racist or that she's a horrible person - it's clear that she loves her country and she loves its culture but the culture is not hers to wear ESPECIALLY as a costume at a festival like Burning Man. Candice is Dutch. The Dutch enslaved the black South Africans. I keep saying this to people: it's not about your intent but the impact it has. Dreadlocks have been worn by a multitude of races but the least of them were white. Dreadlocks are worn dominantly by the black community and it has been that way for ages. Let's not even get into how many black women have worn dreads only to be refused opportunities bc of their hair - so much so that they had to set laws in place so that they were protected. But when Candice or Kendall or models at Marc Jacobs show wear it, it's cool and fresh. None of this is Candices fault, obviously, but there's a responsibility you have as a white person to ensure that you do not appropriate a style of hair or dress that is deeply rooted within the black community or any other culture that is non-white. It's truly not that hard to understand.

@wonderfulwonderful Are you aware that Candice is a fan of reggae?

Lots of people are fans of reggae, what's your point?

Candice is African and is proud to be one, I think it's very good that she claims her culture and her origins.

Are reggae fans not allowed to wear dreads?

Not if they are white, no.

@wonderfulwonderful I have never heard of any native South African ethnic groups wearing dreadlocks. Is Candice responsible for the oppression

of South African black people of Black American. I've also never heard of black people anywhere applying for a patent for the exclusive use of dreadlocks.

Black Americans started wearing dreads in the mid-70's when Bob Marley signed on to Island records in the UK and his music got popular here.

As for real appropriation, how has Candice used her dreads (which she wore just yesterday at a festival where everyone including black people plays dress up)

 to exploit black people all over the world?

Nope. Forget it! Candice can wear whatever and be whatever and she's perfect and never makes a bad call. Everyone enjoy praising the perfect angel.

Thank you. I expected nothing less.
