March 25, 20223 yr Russian Ministry of Defenses' map 3/25 Day 30: Russian forces crossed Seversky Donets- with combat engineering support- south of Izyum and have broken through Ukrainian lines. The breakthrough was stopped at Kamyanka and Tykhotske. The Russian encirclement ring around Cherniv tightened, the city is beseiged. Slavutich next to Cherniv has Russian troops enter it.
March 26, 20223 yr Interesting/strange claims by the Russian Generals in their press conference about the "second phase" of the war. Basically the Russian commanders imply that they invoked maskirovka. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_military_deception 1. They have succeeded in knocking out most of the Ukrainians' capabilities and will now focus on taking the rest of the Donbas. 2. Russia never planned to take Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other cities- they were not setbacks but part of the deception so the main force could seize the Donbas. By launching a northern and southern front they fixed a large portion of Ukraine's military forces. 3. Russia did not target civilian infrastructure or civilians. 4. Ukrainian units have suffered significant losses, including 65.7% of tanks and armored vehicles, 42.8% of field artillery guns and mortars, 30.5% of multiple launch rocket systems, and 82% of S-300 and Buk-M1 anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as three-quarters of Ukrainian aircraft, half their helicopters, and 35 of Ukraine‘s 36 TB2 drones.
March 26, 20223 yr A few weeks old- Russian infantry and tanks- looks like the Separatist milita again- clearing a village https://vk.com/videos-123538639?z=video-123538639_456275684%2Fclub123538639%2Fpl_-123538639_-2 https://vk.com/videos-123538639?z=video-123538639_456276788%2Fclub123538639%2Fpl_-123538639_-2 Group of Ukr prisoners marching- this video looks like Russian propaganda, trying to show the Ukr that they will get good treatment if they surrender. https://vk.com/videos-123538639?z=video-123538639_456275689%2Fclub123538639%2Fpl_-123538639_-2
March 26, 20223 yr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHzLh-i53js line of Ukr prisoners of war https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEn75kDY9rk MOD spokesperson claims that Russia destroyed 3/26: 1618 tanks and armored vehicles (66%- approx. 1/3rd of this number are tanks) 662 field artillery guns (43 %) 166 multiple rocket launcher systems (31%) 207 aircraft and helicopters (75%) 246 drones 1453 military vehicles So basically they are claiming that that 60% of Ukrainian firepower and 1/3rd of Ukrainian armored and mech. forces are left after 1 month of operations. The Putin deadline is April 15th, they intend to eliminate the rest by this date. This means that they believe approx. 800 Ukr tanks/AFV (265 tanks) and 1000 FA/MLRS are left.
March 26, 20223 yr I trust Russian statistics about Ukrainian losses almost as much as I trust Ukrainian statistics about Russian losses.

March 27, 20223 yr Mariupol To continue on the Russian MOD press conference he says that Ukrainian military casualties for the month are around 30,000. Of this number is 14,000 KIA/MIA and 16,000 WIA.

March 27, 20223 yr Warning: this video is very graphic and depicts cruelty. I see some "Azov" badges so these people may belong to the Regiment. Currently in Russian media they say that the Azov Regiment (not sure if it's the whole thing or battalions of it) withdrew into the factories of Mariupol. The Territorial defense forces are the Ukr milita, they look ragtag. The Russian POW look like Separatist milita.
March 27, 20223 yr Interesting video of a firing line: I think I confused National Guard for Airborne/Spetznaz sometimes. The 300,000 strong National Guard is Russia's militarized police force, they do policing and also can be used in combat although not to the extent of Russian army regular and elite forces. The Chechens in Mariupol are part of the National Guard.

March 27, 20223 yr The national guard is deemed essentially useless for frontline action. They are good to police civilian populations but their record facing off against enemy troops is abysmal. They are basically the street thugs that Putin uses to keep his people in line. They are used to beating up unarmed civilians, not facing off with enemy combatants who are firing rockets at their vehicles.

In land warfare military policing/anti-insurgency is a vital function. The National Guard is equipped with AFV and artillery. It would be a waste to use the regular army on policing tasks, guard duty, and SWAT actions. If you watch the CSIS discussion on Russian approach to large- scale warfare, the expert (obviously US Army officer) says that the National Guard is actually part of the Russian army.
March 27, 20223 yr Meanwhile, Kim shoots his rockets in a "Top Gun"-like propaganda video. Another day in 2022... Everything's fine.

March 28, 20223 yr Zelensky open to ‘neutrality’ and negotiations over Donbas https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/03/27/russia-ukraine-war-news-putin-live-updates/ https://meduza.io/feature/2022/03/27/eto-ne-prosto-voyna-vse-gorazdo-huzhe I wonder if Ukr will end up being a Soviet-era buffer state- with East and West Ukr, one side NATO friendly, the other side pro-Russia.
