Cult Icon Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 @Enrico_sw have you studied phenomenology (most famously Heidegger?) As I am working through more of the lectures/material I am starting to question the worthwhileness of phenomenology for my purposes. Found a Buddhist retreat/prof's course on phenomenology and buddhism. I might skip phenomenology once i've had enough of it, and with Nietzsche I will use the first two books as a trial run and if I don't like it I will move on. Professor Eric Dodson's channel on youtube is absolutely brilliant and I am looking forward to finishing it. Quote

elfstone Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 Finally a Heidegger lecture series by one of the smartest contemporary thinkers. I wish he had recorded these in 2013 when I really needed them. https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/applydegger/e/73893332 Quote
Cult Icon Posted September 5, 2020 Posted September 5, 2020 ^ Thanks, I bookmarked that. The practical applications is what I've been looking for. Quote

Professor Eric Dodson's channel on youtube is absolutely brilliant and I am looking forward to finishing it. I've taken classes on Heidegger a couple of years ago, but I haven't read the source material. I didn't really enjoy it at the time (or maybe my other interests were too big and overshadowed it). People told me that I would like Heidegger's take on science and technology, but I didn't find it that much exciting at the time. Maybe, I'll give it another try in a couple of years. On the other hand, I enjoyed reading a couple of Hannah Arendt's books (who was one of her students, though their topics are quite different). IMHO, Arendt's work is one of the most important to understand many shortcomings in today's world. Her takes on education, the banality of evil and totalitarianism are really precious. Quote
