May 29, 20205 yr Interesting perspective from a police officer and ex military police Paints a whole new light on what may have happened (dope/resist). Should he of died, nope, but this just puts into perspective as to why things may have happened.
May 29, 20205 yr I wonder if any site is taking bets on if the US survives and for how long 1/5/10 years. Of course, part of the problem would be defining survive. I was thinking about this question a few months back and remembered it today.
May 30, 20205 yr “When we start coming to the suburbs” ..You’re going to get shot. Reporter : And why are you out here protesting? Rioter : I'm here for dat death of dat George Foreman. Reporter : It was actually George Floyd. Rioter : Who give a damn, where dat free big-assed TV at?
May 30, 20205 yr ^ Yeah. No matter what a protest is about, interviewing individuals always produces really dumb responses. Good, well-intentioned protests regularly get taken over and ruined.
May 30, 20205 yr Every time I revisit existentialism, a lot of concepts come across as overly obscure, extremely over-complicated and round-about ways of being unclear, and impractical. I keep on thinking that there's gold there but keep on coming back feeling like there isn't that much over there.

I am actually what the majority of left/liberals on this forum would hate, so I just shut up and stay in my lane. It also doesn't help that in this situation that I grew up in a extremely heavy law enforcement and military family, so I've heard about it from both sides of the coin. Back in 2006 when I showed any kind of support for President Trump or Right leaning issues I lost friends on BZ, and the relationships have never recovered as a result. Myself and a couple others were mocked, and basically told our opinions were wrong nearly daily. If we posted a video in support of what was going on it turned into a 2 page back and forth shit fest. We tried to show grace by allowing them to say whatever they wanted, while we said nothing, and in the end it left none of us thrilled with being silenced, picked on and belittle... So yeah, I don't talk about anything heavy, and if I make mention of it, I do not reply to people who want to talk about it. And I do like Candace btw.
May 30, 20205 yr ^ Probably the right thought to have, it's what I normally try to do. People having conversations never accomplishes anything. People just state their point and ignore the other's side and it's a waste of time. I tend to be somewhere in the middle on most subjects and it's still pointless for me to talk to people. This is because if I don't agree with them, I'm attacked. (And I have been attacked from both sides by being the middle)

(And I have been attacked from both sides by being the middle) I have both conservative and liberal opinions on many things, some moderate as well, but the end of the day that doesn't matter because all anyone does is focus on my love of MAGA and that my points of view are different therefore to many on the left I am shite. I grew up in San Francisco bay area and used to be very liberal, then I got married, hit a new tax bracket, bought a home and moved to suburbia (which I thought I would loath, but I love the quiet and stability it offers ) and i stopped focusing on just me and what I wanted and started focusing on WE and what we needed. I had a huge shift in my reality as a result and never looked back.
May 30, 20205 yr ^ I have known people who were more left (or left-ish) and through life experience they became more right. I have also known people who were more right (or right-ish) and through life experience became more left. I don't know how common that is, but it definitely happens.

So yeah, I don't talk about anything heavy, and if I make mention of it, I do not reply to people who want to talk about it. And I do like Candace btw. Well, here's what I think. It's nothing controversial, but it's fine if you don't want to reply. Spoiler The internet is meant for people to express their ideas freely (I understand that not everybody shares this opinion). The real world should be about freedom of speech too. If people self-censor because of mob-type behaviours, then the mobs have won. I've never been angry at people for expressing their opinions, whatever they are (right, left or whatever idea in the wide spectrum of ideas). As long as people don't attack each other personally, it's fine and it should be. The problem is that some people (sorry for them, but it's often the far left) see disagreements as personal attacks. This should be problem their problem, not everybody else's. If some people want to be friendly on the condition that others self-censor, well... let's say that's not a good condition. Here's a guy who shares this view , he's a great professor and a true one (it's not just a title). PS: Candace is exactly the type of person I like, not because of her political opinions, but because she's kind hearted and defends her ideas firmly without attacking people. PS2: BZ talks about models, culture, etc. Since political issues are now in cultural products (not because we chose it, but because the industry forced it), it seems fair that people want to talk about it.

Level headed arguments are always listened. That doesn't mean that people will instantly change their opinions, but debate and discussions are the best way to build a real reflection. People really stop listening when it becomes personal IMO. In any case, self-censoring eventually leads to the weakening of reflection. (I hope it makes sense and it's just my opinion anyway )

I think that's rare and that people enter a conversation with the intent to fight. I think the open-minded are more likely to avoid the conversation if they assume it will be pointless. Also, I always assume I'm wrong, so I probably am here as well.

Quoting myself because I thought of a different way to say what i was thinking. It would be great if people could have conversations about ideas that didn't involve politics, but it doesn't happen. And once politics is involved, it becomes about winning and any chance at a real conversation is over. Extra thought: This is why politicians attack each other instead of trying to solve problems, they want to win (the argument, an election, etc.). Maybe there was a time when politicians were helpful, but it's hard to see significant usefulness now. Unfortunately, there is no realistic replacement for them.
May 30, 20205 yr My parent’s had one “rule” that seemed to work well for the family; never try to talk politics and religion because those are touchy subjects that no matter the amount of conversations it is not worth getting pissed off. Kind of what @Prettyphile posted.
