Overall, it is good but a bit underwhelming as the showrunners ran out of money and had to truncate the ending (squeeze it all in one episode, omit things, and there is no final battle). The full ending is in the books and a bit from history. Spoilers: Spoiler There was a "final battle" I can't believe they killed Mariko. I was literally heartbroken. I don't think they ran out of money, feels more like artistic choices to leave out all the big battle scenes and focus on the emotional side.

I don't think they ran out of money, feels more like artistic choices to leave out all the big battle scenes and focus on the emotional side. I think overall they did skimp on the battle scenes (throughout the series but surprisingly in the final episode) to stay within budget. I definitely would have liked to see more closure with Ishido- Spoiler there is a dramatic final scene with him and his vassals but then it ends there, with the rest being in a flashback. I would have liked to see the battle and his fate after his defeat, and also the fate of Japan after there is a new Shogun. Also what happens to the other characters in the story. IMHO I wonder how Japanese, Chinese, and Korean people think of this show. They watch huge numbers of similar type of dramas, this one was written and produced for a western audience. I know from the Japanese POV that they think that samurai stereotypes (fanatic loyalty, honor, Zen, suicide etc.) are largely exaggerated even in though own media. I like the inclusion of so many Zen Death Poems. It is consistent with a book on Zen Death poetry that I read a while back. Most of these poems were written at the end of life and not before suicide or execution though. A lot of them are brilliant, however the most common 'theme' among Zen Death Poems is how the person basically says that 'death is nothing', merely the next phase after life. There are so many seppeku in the show/story that the later ones has less impact for me. I wonder how a Japanese person would react to this, as this story is written by a Western man. With Mariko she should not be thought of through the 'Western' conception of morality even though she likes christianity Spoiler in the end she approaches death and life as a Japanese Zen Buddhist would, as part of a natural cycle. her choice to die for honor & for her lord is ironically very anti-Christian and pro-Japanese.

The success of the Fallout show has generated a renewed interest in the franchise. Youtube algorithms are now promoting the show & the games so all those old videos from years ago are being recommended again. The steam numbers for the games surged during and after the show to the point where I can see Fallout 5 is in the cards. Starfield & Fallout 76 are production failures and it's apparent that that people (myself included) miss fallout. So Fallout has a pretty good future.
