Thank you Kat for J. Edgar Tv spot :)

Oscar 2012: Best Actor Roundtable

Sasha Stone of Awardsdaily.com, and USA Today film reporter Susan Wloszczyna talk about Oscar frontrunners .... they don't seem all that positive about Leo.. but they still have him on the list of best actor contenders.

http://thelmadams.com/wordpress/?p=1618

Hmmmmm so at least she wasn't ruling him out. She hasn't even seen the film yet, and neither have many critics, so we'll have to wait to see Leos chances when the reviews come in ;) Cause by now, there only going by the trailer, and the buzz!

Lauren

Were you about to post J Edgar offiicial website link as well ?

Yes, great minds :)

Oxford, great minds!!!

Kat

Thanks for link to J Edgar tv advert , I really like it a lot ! ! (Y)

To me it really reflects the heart of Dustin Black's script which focuses on what made J Edgar the man he became, what were the influences in his personal life

that drove him. We know the legend , but his script aspires for us to know the man.

Thanks for Bar comment about favorite Leo role :)

I take it as a compliment as to me she is saying, as I have heard others say, that Leo was so believable as Arnie that one found it hard to believe he was just pretending/acting.

Also, thanks, for news regarding possible new cast member for Django.

Jou

Thanks for trailer link and more Porteno tweets.:)

Also, thanks for Derby article. If my understanding of what I read is correct the Nikki Phillips that Leo chatted with at Star casino event is connected with that event.

Fash

Thanks for US list of top idols .:)

As to Sasha Stone of Awards Daily, have you been a reader of her site for long ? Last year she thought nothing could beat Social Network, she predicted it would sweep the Oscars, and we all know how that turned out.

As Kat mentioned , and I agree, the first step toward Oscar glory is to be warmly received by the critics. So until the J Edgar is released and the critics start weighing in, and I don't mean the internet bloggers like Stone , I mean the print critics of the L.A. Times, NY Times, Chicago , etc, we won't truly be able to have any sense if the film or Leo's performance will get a nod to the entire film is seen by critics.

And , even if Leo's performance is raved about, as we've learned from past raves for his performances in films like The Departed . Shutter Island, etc, we still won't know to the Academy members cast their votes if he will receive a nod.

Personally I don't give any weight/importance to any of the of the movie blogs around this time, as over the years I find it just becomes an endless session of posters appearing to extol the greatness of their choice while bashing the competition. All of it often meaning zilch since 99% of said posters are not Academy voters.

I just read at Deadline Hollywood that one of the new rules of the Academy is that studios are to refrain from having their cyber studio plants ( which often dwell at said movie blogs ) from trash talking films /performances on Facebook ,Twitter, etc.

It is a game that personally I think Leo knows understands very well , like Jack Dawson, he knows how the Oscar world works, which is why in interviews I've seen him often say "All I can control is my performance. How audiences and award voters perceive it is beyond my control."

I think Leo always gives every performance his 100% effort ,and in doing so, he has already won :)

Another collaboration of producing between Graham King of The Departed and Leo's Appian Way

From Variety

GK Films, Appian Way to produce 'Home'

'Paranormal' producer Schneider also teaming on thriller

By Jeff Sneider

Graham King's GK Films, Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way and "Paranormal Activity" exec producer Steven Schneider are teaming to produce the psychological thriller "Home," which Dennis Iliadis will direct from a script by Adam Alleca.

Iliadis and Alleca previously teamed on Rogue Pictures' 2009 remake of "The Last House on the Left."

"Home" follows an unstable young man staying at his recently deceased father's house. As odd phenomena begin to occur, he struggles to determine whether he's having a nervous breakdown or his father is haunting him.

King and Tim Headington will produce for GK Films, while Jennifer Killoran and Alex Mace will produce for Appian Way.

Project was originally optioned in 2005 by Wes Craven through his and Marianne Maddalena's Craven/Maddalena Films banner.

Alleca wrote the first draft of "Home" in less than a week back when he was working as a 22-year-old intern at Eli Roth's Raw Nerve shingle. The script was featured on the 2005 Black List.

Scribe was recently tapped by Mandalay Vision to adapt Zenescope Entertainment's 2007 graphic novel "The Piper," a modern retelling of the Pied Piper fairy tale that follows a high school student who tries to kill all his classmates and teachers.

Schneider, who recently produced the sleeper hit "Insidious," also serves as a producer on "Paranormal Activity 3," which Paramount releases Oct. 21.

GK Films has Martin Scorsese's "Hugo," Angelina Jolie's "In the Land of Blood and Honey" and Johnny Depp starrer "The Rum Diary" skedded for release later this year. Company is also developing a reboot of the "Tomb Raider" franchise and a movie about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury that will star Sacha Baron Cohen.

Alleca is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, while CAA and 3 Arts Entertainment rep Iliadis.

Thanks Oxford for collaboration news

Oh I'm not putting much stock into what they were saying.. its way too early to tell. You can't judge a whole performance from just a trailer. I was just posting what they said.. since its leo related :)

This vid was posted a few months back... but there was no audio to go along with the vid.

Someone reuploaded and this time there's audio. In case anyone is interested :)

Fash

Thanks for Hanging with Leo video clip :)

Whenever I think of that video , I can see the part where a well endowed woman walks up to the guys, and Leo can barely take his eyes off her chest :D

Yes, the article was Leo related, now if you could just post for us a new Leo related picture, I know you make it happen, you did last time ! :p :p

OoOo danke for the info!!!!!!

hehe are you referring to the brown, short haired woman who is walking near Kristen Zang and Kevin C?? Yeah he was really eyeing her down

That's funny because a few posts back I was all set to write a post about my wish for more leo pics and news but decided against it. But really it's been quite quiet with the sightings and pics lately... I'm missing all that :/

Back to the vid.... can you make out what is being said at the 12 minute mark till the 12:03 mark? I think Leo says you guys don't care about me and then the pap goes that's for sure... then leo says ha... then the paps go because your never nice. What did you make out of it?

First of all a little comment...

"Leo in J. Edgar could go either way. I would feel more sure if this were a Scorsese film than an Eastwood. "

I just took this part from the article Fash gave us gently. What does it mean? I mean, what's goin' on? Sometimes I cant really understand why these things seem to always happen to Leo. What else is missing? Drug addict, homosexual, mentally retarded, anti-hero, troubled, rebel, family man....oh wait...I think he has played all of these! So....what else is missing? As I said before here I really want to him to get it,but at the same time I'm afraid of getting frustrated again :( ...the world recognize his talent, but the Academy seems to ignore it! Sometimes I'm pretty sure they know Leo's the best, that he's a treasure, that's why I cant understand it...it makes me sad,I know I am suffering from anticipation, but I just cant help it girls...

Fash, tks for US list of top idols,Leo as always the number one! ;) Actually he was already an idol at the age of 17!

Tks Oxford for the articles and tweets! Tks girls for everything!

P.s: Hey girls...I miss more news of Leo and Blake...waiting to see things about them soon, what about you?

pami I know how you feel! Love hearing the positive, detest hearing the negative in regards to leo and his career. However, the good part of all this is that no one's seen the full movie yet.. for all we know Eastwood/ Leo could blow them all away. Then and only then can we get a better sense of the situation and leo's chances. But yes to be honest I really hope this is received well and sometimes thinking about future outcomes makes me a little uneasy :p

Ok so I just thought of something. It could be possible that Jonah Johnson is Leo's assistant on Gatsby?? We saw him at the airport with him in Sydney. Not that that means much but with the added knowledge that Jonah was Leo's assistant on Titanic and in addition that vid's mention of him having his friends serve as assistants to him on sets.... it was just a thought :)

Brendan McLean is the guy who we read an article about before being cast for small part in Gatsby. He was the one who said that if things got too serious on set that Leo would do something to crack everyone up.

Apparently his scene with Leo will be filmed very soon, see his recent tweet below :

Brendan Maclean

When I'm back I'll have a scene with DiCaprio. Til then, watch my new cover and ask yourself why they let me near him -

Pami

As to your question below, if one has followed Sasha Stone's comments over the years she is not a big fan of Eastwood as a director. She is ,however, a big fan of Scorsese's.

To me she is saying that she would feel more confident sight unseen of the subject matter being handled by Scorsese versus Eastwood

Leo in J. Edgar could go either way. I would feel more sure if this were a Scorsese film than an Eastwood. "

And, we certainly don't want our Pami to suffer

I am suffering from anticipation, but I just cant help it girls...

Fash

Your magic worked before, it might work again :p

I'll check out the part of video ,and see if I can hear what they are saying.

I would say something, not everyone loves Leo like us, and not everyone can look at him as a serious actor. I'am just saying this because I read a post about this character (J.Edgar) is the one for him to win an Oscar, I thought that the article mean "he wants to win an Oscar" by any coast, listing his movies and characters. But I don't agree with this, I don't think this is the case, in first place every actor wants to win an Oscar and who said NOT, it's lying for sure. But I don't think Leo chooses his roles thinking that he can be nominated, he chooses his character because he wants to tell that history, with "The Aviator" for example, he wanted to play that role since he was in 20's and read about Howard Hughes, when he could imagine that 10 years later he would be nominated in Oscar for this role?

I have sure Leo wants to win an Oscar, but I don't think this is his motivation to act and play a role, his motivations it's because he loves to act and he loves to tell interesting stories, and why not with real characters? Also, like fash said he don't the control on how people and critics will receive his movies and performance, so the only thing he can do is give his best with all his strenght to his acting and that's all. I will not put the link for this article because I think is not that nice and also because the 5 or 6 comments there all bash Leo, they seem to hate him and said that he's not right to play this character, that's his a baby face and that ridiculous stuff we already know well, so no worthy at all. But this makes me really sad and angry on how some people just don't take Leo seriously because I think he so passionate about his work and so professional, and than came this horrible people and start to bash him, I think it's just not fair with him.:no: :lullaby:

But sometimes I just think anyone can be unanimity and please everyone, so will always have people that don't like him, and don't matter how much we get angry about this. :( :/ :/

I still feel Leo should have won the oscar already.

He should have gotten it for most of his movies but Gilbert Grape and Aviator are just to good to not have gotten him one!

I agree Barbie! And We talk about how the award really means nothing, and people of all acting ranges seem to get it, not leo. So its not like I just want him to get one so he can be an oscar winner instead of nominee, but I want him to get one because HE DESERVES IT!:blush:

Thanks fash for the audio with the vid. I'm gonna try to watch it when I get home today, so I can answer your Q :)

Thanks Ox for all the articles :flower:

Barbie

Thanks for screen cap link :)

As to Hanging with Leo video, to me what you heard is correct, but to me , it is all said in a joking manner between Leo and the paps.

I really wish we could get more Gatsby filming pics. So far we've only gotten two sets of pics of him filming

Personally, I feel like Leo should have won for What's Eating Gilbert Grape (legit, it's disgusting he didn't win right off the bat for this but then I think it might have ~messed~ him up since people who win Oscars after not doing many films sometimes get that whole Oscar curse~ crap-ola), The Basketball Diaries, The Departed, The Aviator, and Shutter Island. I'd give him Oscars for all of those. But I know as a Leo stan I am bias. But like...I am not because he IS AMAZING in anything. Still, I almost resent the Academy because it's become more of a "omg when will he get his damn Oscar" and "let's just give it to him and get it over with" than giving him the award because he's a stellar actor. Damn Academy people! Lol.

Also I don't get why critics act like they can guess who will win the Oscar just off of movie trailers. I mean? What? They might get to see like 3 minutes of the movie all pieced together in a trailer and they are already making guesses about who will win? It just seems odd to me. I mean, it's one thing to be like: Awesome trailer! It looks like it will be a great perfomance! But people already making all these lists about who's edging in front for the Oscar race just based off of trailers is kinda silly and dumb to me.

I JUST WANT TO SEE HOOVER NOW.

Thank you Ox for your answer!! :) Rarely do I hear Leo talk to the paps so I was curious what was said :p

Barbie Thanks alot for those links!!! :)

Liam Lacey: Behind the Screens

Published Friday, Sep. 23, 2011 12:00AM EDT

Big news: Nearly two months before the film’s theatrical release, the trailer for director Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar, the biopic about controversial FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover, has made its way to the web. Based on that two-and-a-half minute hit, speculation is already rife about how many Oscars it will win, or alternatively, how abjectly it will fail. People have picked up on the Citizen Kane-like shape of the story, questioned Leonardo DiCaprio’s posh accent, and offered opinions on the make-up that makes him appear to age 40 years. And what is that throbbing musical theme that kicks in at the half-way mark?

Snap judgments abound. Is the trailer, cut by a private company outside of the studio, really a reliable indication of whether J. Edgar is a masterpiece or a dud? That's the problem with movie trailers – nuance is not a priority. Their job, after all is to psychologically shove filmgoers into line for that all-important opening weekend of a new film.

Movie trailers – so named because “coming attractions” used to come at the end of films – are now their own independent form of entertainment. Fan sites monitor them in detail. DVDs offer them as value-added bonuses. Academics write about how trailers are emblematic of a world where marketing and art are increasingly indistinguishable. There is a documentary about movie trailers, Mike Shapiro’s Coming Attractions: The History of the Movie Trailer. They’re also the centrepieces of marketing campaigns which, nowadays, typically cost about half the amount allotted to the movies’ production budgets.

Yet trailers remain an oddity, a hybrid of free sample and hype. Because the trailers are cut and released before the films are finished, they are cobbled together from existing footage in best-guess fashion.

In their efforts to turn sow's ears into silk purses, there are big risks. Masterpieces look generic. As someone once quipped, the trailer for David Fincher's horrifying thriller Se7en made the film look like a Brad Pitt-Morgan Freeman rom-com.

And they tend to be relentlessly formulaic. Just like real movies, most have a three-act structure – introduction, complication and then, instead of an resolution, a montage with soaring theme music that may include onscreen text and lists of the stars. The length, by U.S. standards, is no more than 150 seconds. Some trailers give too much of the story away: Adam Sandler's trailer for his upcoming Jack and Jill, in which he plays a man and his twin sister, feels exceedingly long. Typically, trailers present original narratives (Before Sunset for example) as if they were cookie-cutter romantic comedies (“What if you had a second chance with the one that got away?”)

..........

The most potent emotional hook that movie trailers employ is music, which, typically, has nothing to do with the final score of the film. Most musical cues are recycled from other films. Once you clue into the inspirational U2-like rock anthem used on the second half of the trailer for Dolphin Tale, you realize it’s a kid-and-horse movie in disguise. The 2008 song All Roads Lead Home by the band Golden State has previously been used in three horse movies – Lost Stallions: The Journey Home, Flicka 2 and Every Second Counts.

And as for that pulsing musical theme from J. Edgar, that’s called Last Days, from a 2002 album by composer Max Richter. He also composed On the Nature of Daylight, which was used on the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. Well, major big spoiler alert – the trailer makes J. Edgar look like just another movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a seriously wacky law enforcer.
