Their comments about trailer

When it was announced that Baz Luhrmann would be directing a film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," anyone who knew the Australian director's work sort of knew what to expect. They might not have guessed that he'd make the whole thing in 3D, but they knew you'd get something lavish, operatic and heavily styilized, with party scenes that finally lived up to some of Fitzgerald's descriptions.

But did what they have in their mind's eye look like this? We doubt it. The first trailer for Luhrmann's opus has just debuted over at Apple, and it looks pretty nutty. You can tell already the extent that Luhrmann's shot for 3D, and you can tell that this is clearly not going to be set in anything like the real world: it's reminiscent of "Sucker Punch" more than anything else. Visuals aside, Leonardo DiCaprio looks like he's got the role he was born to play, and we like what we see of both Carey Mulligan and Joel Edgerton, but we're not yet sold on Tobey Maguire, who sems bland, even for a reasonably bland character.

So we're intrigued, certainly, but far from convinced. What do you think? Has Luhrmann finally gone too far? Or is this a vital, fresh spin on an old classic that's still yet to have its definitive screen version

Wijn, The pic of Tobey and Leo was posted but not in good quality... So thanks

For the gif... not so much! rub in my face that he’s in bed with Carey, touching Carey necks???And Dancing with her? Over and over again??? Not Cool girl! :blah:

The trailer... at first seems like a Michael Bay movie with all those special effects. :cain:

I Also thought that Carey’s voice sound a little bit different ... but Leo... I need to say it!!!... more bare chest Please!

Although I confess that I still I can’t imagine him with the swimsuit 20’s style. Probably'll cover my eyes at that time. :hehe:

So glad that we have all this news to entertain us while the boy appears...

Now if someone show us the 7 minutes preview of Django footage shown at Cannes... post-51835-0-1446083044-96458_thumb.gif

Man, I have to admitt I was a bit shocked at first with that music but right after I was like... OMG, it's magnificent. Baz is really daring, but I like all that exaggerating things, visually wild. Love it! :cain: And Leo, oh... no words, I loved that part of him laughing and throwing his clothes. And the end wth U2 music, EPIC! :blah::hehe::ddr:

Barbie , as you will see below, the L.A. Times is so glad you noticed the shirt scene

Break out the Champagne: The first trailer for Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" has arrived, and Leonardo DiCaprio is serving up some major swagger.

Early glimpses at the 3-D epic showed off Luhrmann's usual visual flare, and some chic period costumes to boot, but now we've got a full trailer (watch below) where title character DiCaprio and company shine. Some immediate thoughts from the Ministry include...

The Shirts!: We're not sure what your high school English takeaways were from F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, but Daisy Buchanan, played by the perfectly cast Carey Mulligan, has a material obsession that would dwarf any "Real Housewives" franchise. Bless Luhrmann for including the iconic moment when Daisy nears ecstasy whilst twirling through Gatsby's lush collection of pastel suit shirts (and shout-out to his two-story closet, the men's answer to

in the first "Sex and the City" movie).

Roc is in the trailer: Costar Isla Fisher revealed that Luhrmann employed Jay-Z tracks to set the mood during filming. It's only fitting that the first few shots of 1920s excess in the trailer are accompanied by Jay and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild" from their well-received collaboration album "Watch the Throne."

Tobey comeback?: Since hanging up his "Spider-Man" gear and terrifying everyone in the polarizing family drama "Brothers," Tobey Maguire has all but vanished from his former leading man status. As protagonist Nick Carraway, however, Maguire gives off some electricity in the trailer as witness to the indulgent world off the Long Island Sound.

Get your first look at "Gatsby," then tell us your thoughts in comments.

Barbie

Thanks for Leo's Gatsby tweets :cain:
