Joel talks a little bit about Gatsby. Sounds like they are indeed changing up the book a bit! :)

That's right, filming has begun Down Under for director Baz Luhrman's 3-D adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and Joel Edgerton...

"It's a great cast," Edgerton told us earlier this week at the Hollywood premiere of his new flick Warrior. "I think Baz is great, I think the cast is great...The whole thing is going to be cool."

Preproduction on the 1920's period film, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, began last month. The project will reportedly cost $126 million and shoot in Australia for 17 weeks with an estimated cast and crew of 400, according to The Hollywood Reporter,

"It's been a while since I saw the [Robert] Redford version," said Edgerton, who's playing Tom Buchanan. "Obviously there'll be similarities because it's the same story, [but] it will be a different movie totally."

We cannot wait.

Yup Kat got your PM and sent you another one

That article about leo entering that jewlery shop with the bodyguards was hilarious  Your reasoning of why Leo might have said it was for his mom and your comments about the clearway parking were very interesting Oxford It sounds quite plausible

Thanks all for news

Now we know where Leo was shopping on his day out, and , now we can clearly see it was his bodyguard Jay with him

I wonder if the gift really was for Irmelin :p :p

A HAIRY situation quickly turned humorous for a Sydney jeweller yesterday morning when megawatt movie star Leonardo DiCaprio popped in for a spot of shopping.

The Family Jewels shop owner Kane Kelfkens told Confidential his unsuspecting sales assistant Linda feared the worst when DiCaprio's bodyguards approached the store, with one taking up a position in the doorway to keep watch while the other stood in the shop corner.

"Linda was working on her own and I was next door grabbing a coffee," Kelfkens told Confidential.

"Linda was serving a customer when the two big bodyguards approached. The customer sees what's happening and says, 'This doesn't look good'."

DiCaprio came in wearing a hoodie, cap and dark sunglasses and the sales assistant, failing to recognise The Great Gatsby actor, mistakenly feared a robbery.

"Linda sent the customer next door to get me, thinking the shop is about to be robbed by these guys," chuckled Kelfkens. "By the time I get in there Linda has realised who she was serving and let me know everything was all right."

DiCaprio, in town until December to shoot the Baz Luhrmann flick, was "very friendly" as he browsed, saying he was looking for a gift for his mum Irmelin

He eventually picked out a Nepalese antique necklace set with lapis lazuli and coral worth about $1600 but their car was parked in a clearway and he had to leave quickly..

"So he said he would be back to buy it another day," Kane said. "He was very cool and said he was having a great time in Sydney. He eventually took his sunglasses off."

Now that I realized... Leo was mistaken for a burglar, is it?    So funny.

Thanks girls for more photos and news.

Another article about upcoming LAMCA event from L.A. Times

In an effort to call attention to its revamped film program, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art said Thursday it will stage an Art + Film Gala on Nov. 5 honoring filmmaker Clint Eastwood and artist John Baldessari.

Proceeds from the fundraising event will be used to “support LACMA's initiative to make film more central to the museum's curatorial programming,” the museum said, including the weekly cinema series it co-sponsors with Film Independent.

The gala, to be held at LACMA, will be co-chaired by LACMA Trustee Eva Chow and by Leonardo DiCaprio, who stars in Eastwood's latest film, “J. Edgar,” which will have its world premiere at AFI Fest in Hollywood on Nov. 3.

Noting that Los Angeles is "the hub of the film industry" and "one of the most important centers in the world for contemporary art," museum director Michael Govan called this "an opportune time to bring these two globally important creative communities together at LACMA, acknowledging motion pictures' increasingly significant place in the whole history of art."

Many in the film industry questioned whether Govan understood that "significant place" two years ago when he suspended the museum's long-running weekend screening program and dismissed its respected overseer, Ian Birnie. But Govan subsequently vowed his support and in April this year announced a partnership for a new series with Film Independent, the nonprofit organization that runs the Los Angeles Film Festival. Veteran film critic Elvis Mitchell was brought in to run it.

LACMA said in announcing the gala that the proceeds, beyond supporting that film series, would go toward "exhibitions, acquisitions and educational programming."

Leo's beloved LACMA :p Looking forward to this week were we have possible pics from this event to look forward too plus the premiere at AFI ! Thanks Oxford for this article and the pics

thanks by princess and ox for more pics of adorable Leo, he looks great!

I wonder if other media outlets will catch on to this funny story at the jewlery store. I found it entertaining... seems like something the media would to but who knows :p

Just read Kevin Connolly signed up with CAA (Creative Artists Agency) one of the world's top talent agencies. It has Clooney, Pitt, Streep, Bullock etc as clients. It Got me wondering what agency is Leo with??

I think it really helps that Blake shies away from pap attention even when she's by herself.. you rarely see pap pics of her outside of filming. That says something.. she seems genuine That's just one of the reasons I think they make a perfect match. Totally agree fash.

And you right about the media interest, when they are doing things together it's way more interesting to press to put the news all over.

beautiful avi and sig, fash.

Thanks for all the news and pix! :flower:

The Paul McCartney documentary that Leo is supposed to make an appearance in is airing this weekend on Showtime, starting Sept. 10 at 9:00 p.m.

Eastwood's 'J. Edgar,' starring DiCaprio, to open AFI Fest

Sight unseen, Clint Eastwood's upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic has already been deemed a best picture contender by a number of Oscar prognosticators. Pundits will officially be able to back up -- or back off of -- those claims at AFI Fest 2011, as event coordinators announced Wednesday that "J. Edgar" will be the opening film at the annual festival. Celebrating its 25th year, AFI Fest will kick off in Hollywood on Nov. 3 and run through Nov. 10. .....

For the third year in a row, AFI Fest will offer patrons free tickets to the majority of its screenings. But those who want to guarantee their seat in the theater for Eastwood's film will have to pay a hefty sum for that opportunity. To reserve a spot at the gala screening of "J. Edgar," one must purchase either a Star Patron or a Marquee Patron Package -- the prices of which range from $1,500 to $5,000

The good news: J. Edgar premiere will be down the street from me. The bad news: I can't afford a $1,500 pass. :p I've had luck scoring the free tix they set aside for non-passholders by waiting in line, but it doesn't sound like any will be made available for J. Edgar.

The LACMA fundraiser sounds great too, but that one's realllly not in the budget. :p On the upside, it will keep Leo in town longer heheh... debating whether it's worth taking the week off just to, um, sightsee.

FILMING has finally begun on Baz Luhrmann's ambitious 3D remake of F Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and it seems headline star Leonardo DiCaprio has wasted no time jumping straight into character for the title role.

Snapped in full New York jazz-age regalia, DiCaprio was snapped zooming around the Fox Studios set in a golf buggy yesterday on the second day of the 17-week shoot.

He looks smashing! Thanks oxford! :flower:

Thanks fash! :flower: Mmmm look at that smooth face... Reminds me of a comment made by one of the red carpet photographers when he attended the opening of the Dream Hotel in NYC last June. She noted how the high def close ups showed flaws for everyone in the pix except for Leo, who's skin still looked baby smooth... "He's got movie star skin." :D

And our latest Leo sighting in Paddington area. With the time difference the sighting would have happened around 9:00 pm Wed night Sydney time. It is presently 12:16 pm on Thurs in Sydney.
