  8. Surprise. Today it's VINELAND again - this time in an alternate reality The comment section for this is exploding 💥😄 Paul Thomas Anderson's Latest Tackles MAGA? Yesterday’s piece, via Jeff Sneider, that Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest cost $175 million is making some waves (so is my other piece about Euphoria, and, by the way, that one’s coming from a very strong source). An in-the-know journalist is telling me this morning that Anderson’s latest is in fact a reworking of “Vineland,” based in an alternate reality America and has Trump/MAGA elements sprinkled to it. It’s the hippies vs MAGA, they tell me, but that’s just scratching the surface of what PTA has in store here. Pynchon’s novel was set during the Reagan-era. I’m hearing that this one has action movie elements, incorporating the biggest stunts of PTA’s career. Also, Sean Penn is rumored to be playing the head of a white supremacist group who tries to get rid of an interracial child he had in the ‘60s with Regina Hall’s character. DiCaprio is the adoptive father. It all just sounds completely bonkers. The supposed MAGA elements would make sense considering that in February 2023 Sneider was hearing that PTA’s latest was a father/daughter story “about the current GOP” that might feature as a side character… Republican congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene! Sneider reported that PTA was looking for an actress to play Taylor Greene, adding that this intel came from a very credible source. PTA has mentioned the novel, “Vineland,” numerous times over the years, and in a 2014 Time Out interview even insinuated that he tried to script it: “I'd wanted to adapt “Vineland”, but I never had the courage. It seemed to be a great way to translate [Pynchon] into a movie.” Replacing Reagan/Nixon with Trump makes sense. If you’ve read the novel then a “contemporary” Vineland could be pulled off. Also, replace the ‘60s hippies with today’s ultra-progressives. Obviously, PTA would have to take some major liberties with the source material. Honestly, all of the intel we’ve had about this film is leaning towards this being a VERY loose adaptation of “Vineland”. Daniel Richtman even confirmed it late last year. The only hesitation I have with all of this is why in the living hell would Warner Bros greenlight a $175 million film, directed by PTA, based on a Thomas Pynchon novel, and go as far as to release it commercially in the summer of 2025, and in IMAX, no less? The entire thing just sounds ABSURD. It’s the definition of a risky Hollywood endeavor.
  9. Hoped we would get a glimpse of his hair to see if he's still wearing it long. Robert De Niro takes his baby girl to a family lunch with Killers Of The Flower Moon costar Leonardo DiCaprio in LA https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-13237679/Robert-Niro-baby-lunch-Leonardo-DiCaprio-LA.html Apparently from March 10. https://www.instagram.com/p/C4Wm4o4r9ot/

Decent. I think it's pretty rare having a western narrated by a young woman. Even though 18 years old Elsa Dutton was a bit of a smartass sometimes 😄

  19. This is gettin crazier and crazier LOL Paul Thomas Anderson's New Film Actually Costs $175 Million, Might Be Rated PG-13 and ... is NOT Vineland? So, it turns out that Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie isn’t cheap. A source is telling Jeff Sneider that Warner Bros. greenlit PTA’s latest for the whopping sum of $175 million. Original reporting had it costing anywhere between $100-$125 million. Regardless, what an enormous gamble this is given that PTA’s most successful film (“There Will Be Blood”) only managed to make $76 million worldwide. Sure, this latest one has Leonardo DiCaprio in it, and is banking on a Summer 2025 rollout, in IMAX, no less, but it’s turned into the definition of a RISK. I’m not complaining. Give PTA as much money as he wants. Oh, and, supposedly, PTA’s latest might not even be “Vineland” after all. It could be very loosely based on it, in the same way that “The Master” was based on Pynchon’s “V,” but don’t expect a wall-to-wall adaptation of “Vineland.” In fact, PTA, apparently, came up with the story and worked on the script with his daughter, Lucy. That’s the word on the street. If you remember, back in 2018, PTA had confirmed that he was working on a script with his daughter who wasn’t happy with him only making R-rated films. “Well, I’m working right now on a story with my daughter Lucy. She’s 8. She has taken it upon herself, realizing that if I wasn’t going to do it, she would do it with me,” Anderson said. “We’re trying to hash out something right now. It’s a good collaboration too. It keeps you on your toes.” Anderson explained that, per usual, he was trying to take the unspecified story to darker places but that Lucy prevented him from doing so. This aligns well with rumors that it could be PTA’s most “mainstream” film to date. What we’ve noticed so far, from on-set leaks, is that the film is action-heavy, with lots of car chase scenes. I mean, did we really expect Warner Bros to greenlight an R-rated $175 million film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson? It’s, of course, still a possibility — Warner CEO David Zaslav has done wilder things during his tenure as head honcho of Warners, but these latest whispers tell me that PTA is making a very commercial PG-13 film.

I like the director's cut slightly better than the theatrical cut simply because it shows the attack of Pearl Harbor more brutally aka more how it was and not the trivialized/romanticized kids version. However in this version they cutted most of the scene with Danny and Evelyn at the beach what is a bummer because I really like this scene. It's so tender and aesthetically beautiful and one of their only peaceful moments as a couple together.
