In my view tho,it appears the mesage was pepsi was aiming at is : consumerism is our shared creed and consequently it is the best guarantee of social cohesion. Like everybody can have a soda and go home at the end of day in good spirits. Such line of reasoning can only appear to us as stupid, BUT it used to be the prevailing world view until very recently. Much of the mainstream liberal critique of ex-communist regimes was grounded in such logic. Well, nowadays consumerism runs rampant in almost every society, but state power has somehow gotten even more repressive +1
