  1. Your compelling argument has made me change my mind. If they weren’t going to be able to do it absolutely perfectly the first time they tried then why even bother. What is there to learn about being greedy and stealing other peoples’ lives and homelands away from them? What were they thinking? What a bunch of dumb asses!
  2. I am indigenous and I believe I warned that the movie was likely to be whitewashed. It doesn’t mean it’s a bad movie. It just means it’s a typical movie. With that being said, I’ve always had issues with Scorsese movies, because they lack female character development. Doesn’t mean he makes bad movies. Just means he wouldn’t be the director to go to if you want a female lead/cast. I, personally, am able to recognize that this movie is great in some aspects and fails in others. Leo did his job and he did it well. The movie lacked indigenous character integration. I am able to hold both of these thoughts at the exact same time and be correct.
  3. I wonder if this is somewhat due to the long run time. My oldest sister refuses to see it at the theater because of this. She says she will wait for it to stream and be able to enjoy it in the comfort of her own home.
  4. Yes! That’s at least enough of an understanding to get why things were happening. I wish it would have covered more of how the Osage knew what was under their land (and no it wasn’t because of a gusher) and how they outsmarted the US government by creating headrights before anyone else figured out what was under their land. This of course made the white government look extremely foolish and extremely mad that the Osage outsmarted them. This is why the government started proclaiming Osage people too incompetent to handle their own money. Also, the money could not go to a white family member unless they were the only ones left. This is why all the Osage grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, children etc… had to be eliminated before a white family member could inherit it. Yes. Ernest would have had to murder his own children before he could inherit the money.
  5. I have a question for those who have seen the movie, but have not read the book. Were you able to understand what headrights are and the significance of how they started the Reign of Terror? Both my niece and aunt do not think the movie explained this. I thought it did, but I also went into the movie with a good understanding of them and how they work.
  6. It’s not just you. The book is very dry and boring. 😄
  7. Hopefully people will read the book and find out the true story. Don’t get me wrong, It’s a good film, just didn’t tell the true story. Read the book!
  8. This was my issue with the movie as well. I understand why Leo played Ernest in the way he did wanting to get at the struggle and the duality of a human character, but it just wasn’t true to the actual Ernest. Also, while I have never had any interactions with her, I do know that Mollie’s granddaughter works in the same Cherokee Nation Health Services building that I work in, so there are no excuses for not having someone to communicate how the reign of terror impacted the victims and their families.
  9. I remember seeing pictures (and maybe videos) posted here of Eli filming his scene. I explained back then (2021) the significance of owls and why they were most likely using an owl in the movie. Proud to say. I was correct. 😁
  10. I would have liked to have seen more of that as well. Marty doesn’t know how to tell a story from the female perspective.
  11. I read the article above about people walking out because of the length of the film. The viewing I was at appeared to be a mostly Native audience and obviously an Oklahoma audience. It was sold out and not only did no one leave before the film was over, but no one seemed to be able to move until the majority of the credits had rolled. It was like we were all in a trauma induced trance.
  12. Jade, yes, I’ve seen the film. Sorry for the delay. Life has just been extremely busy lately. I’ve only had time to see the movie once and I believe I need to see it more times to really take it in. It’s a great film, but I don’t feel like it was able to portray the true horrors done to native people in a way that the non-native audience can truly comprehend. It’s hard for me to give much of an opinion right now, because this first viewing for me was distracting. It was difficult to not be distracted by watching the background to see the people I know and the places I know, and also due to having been there and watched the filming of a few scenes and knowing what was happening just outside of camera view and how many times they did the scene over and over, and also knowing when green screen and digital background was being used, etc. So, now that I have been able to get that out of my system, the next viewing should be much different for me. I’ll hide this next part even though it gives absolutely nothing story wise away. My favorite scene thus far is below.
  13. If the strike is still happening, there will not be any award shows. They will be canceled.
  14. Nope. They won’t even be able to hold award shows, at least not the USA ones.
  15. Sorry, I should have clarified. In the US, movies are typically released on Fridays and our trailers say it will be released on October 20th, so wondering why it’s being released early in Tulsa.
  16. I wanted to check on something. Here in Tulsa, Killers of the Flower Moon is being released on October 19th. Do you know if this is happening anywhere else, or are we the only ones?
  17. Needless to say, I love this too. Happy to see that you like it as well. 😊
  18. I highly doubt he will cross the picket line.
