  7. Miriam Reyes is a 90s model. Born: Aug 7, 1972 - Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife Height: 1.79 Bust: 90 Waist: 60 Hips: 90 Hair: Dark Blonde Eyes: Hazel It all began in 1990, when the Ku nightclub selected her to compete in Miss Tenerife, a title she won among 22 candidates. But the real turning point came on November 5, 1991, in A Coruña. That night, the first Miss Spain pageant televised by Telecinco was held. Although she finished as First Runner-Up after Sofía Mazagatos, Miriam Reyes won the Miss Photogenic and Miss Telecinco awards. Not winning the main title ultimately boosted her career. Antena 3, Telecinco's rival, hired her as the face of the network and as a hostess on 'La noche de Hermida' (Hermida's Night). Between 1992 and 1995, her golden age, she worked as a model in Germany and the United States. She walked prestigious European runways and established herself as the muse of Don Algodón for three consecutive years. Pepe Barroso's brand, a favorite among Spanish "well-to-do" girls, found the perfect image in Miriam. She embodied the urban and casual style that defined the 90s. She shared this legacy with other "Don Algodón Girls": Blanca Suelves in the 80s and, later, Valeria Mazza and Malena Costa. Her move to television presenting catapulted her to stardom. On 'El turista habitual' (The Usual Tourist), a travel program on Antena 3 alongside a young Jordi González, and on 'Para toda la vida' (For All of Life) with Pedro Rollán, she cemented her status as one of the most beloved faces on Spanish television. In 1995, at the peak of her career, just 23 years old, Miriam received a devastating diagnosis: Cushing's syndrome associated with a brain tumor in the pituitary gland. This rare disease, caused by the overproduction of cortisol (the stress hormone), triggered brutal symptoms that made it impossible for her to continue her modeling career. The effects were immediate and dramatic. She gained 44 pounds in just six months, developed wounds on her face and body that wouldn't heal, suffered vision loss, neck deformities, and extreme muscle weakness. "Sometimes I can't even open a water bottle," she confessed years later. She left the catwalk in 1995, the same year she was diagnosed. In 2005, a brain tumor was detected and removed, but the syndrome continued to progress. For years, she took up to five medications daily and traveled constantly from Tenerife to Madrid for medical tests, while doctors searched for residual tumors that were still releasing cortisol. Her last appearance and the decision to remain silent. In 2008, Miriam made her last public appearance on the Antena 3 program "DEC," where she was interviewed by Jaime Cantizano. She spoke openly about prioritizing her family and seeking peace and quiet. In 2013, five years later, she gave a telephone interview to Vanity Fair, which would become her last known public statement. She confirmed a relapse: "They started again recently: my wounds aren't healing, I swell up, I get palpitations, I suffer from muscle weakness. But I'm getting through it, I'm very optimistic." According to the last available information, from 2013, Miriam was living in Tenerife with her husband, a pilot, whose name was never made public. She had two sons, aged 13 and 11, who would be around 25 and 23 today. "I went to Tenerife because that way I was close to my parents and my sisters," she explained. Since then, there has been no public information about her life. Twelve years of absolute silence have passed, and she has no presence on social media nor has she given any interviews. She also doesn't appear in retrospective articles about Spanish supermodels of the 90s, where figures like Nieves Álvarez, Judit Mascó, and Esther Cañadas are mentioned. Miriam Reyes achieved something unusual among celebrities: she disappeared completely when she chose to. After the ordeal of Cushing's syndrome, she chose to protect what truly mattered: her family, her health, and the tranquility of her life in Tenerife.
