The 20-year-old Danish supermodel, whom you may notice from that there Victoria's Secret catalogue in your mailbox for some reason, debuted in last year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and, according to people who prognosticate upon such things, is guaranteed to return in 2013 — on its cover. We couldn't wait that long for summer to come back, so we got in touch with her in Colombia just now for some cheering up. ESQUIRE.COM: So, congratulations on being named Esquire's 2012 Miss End-of-Summer Pick-Me-Up. You must be at least somewhat honored. NINA AGDAL: Yes! I'm very flattered. ESQ: Does the end of summer depress you as much as it does us? NA: Well I was born in Denmark, so I'm used to it, and I kind of love the changes for each season. Denmark's fall and winter were really cold and long, actually, but my job often takes me to paradise, so I can't complain. ESQ: And you live in Miami, so you actually really can't. It's only depressing us more. Although it does sound like you're having a kind of rough end to summer yourself. What's this about a storm on the way to Colombia yesterday? NA: Well I arrived to Cartagena for a shoot and the weather was stunning. I was told we had a beautiful, 40-minute boat ride to the island we were staying at, so I was excited. And then after ten minutes, the sun disappeared and a huge thunderstorm came. The water was angry. There was lightning. Honestly, it was really scary because it was just me and two Colombian dudes that I'd just met. I kissed the dock when we finally arrived. ESQ: Talk about a fantasy turned nightmare — one second you're shooting the next Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover, and the next you're stuck on a boat with two strangers. Well, maybe it was still their fantasy. And it was the SI cover, right? NA: You're sneaky! But it certainly was a long day. I was not happy. ESQ: But you said you were used to the ugly weather from Denmark. NA: But we stay inside! We don't go boating! ESQ: Is there anything at all redeeming about early fall? Something we men can look forward to besides maybe football and the return of layered clothing? Layered clothing for men, not for women — that's another depressing part... NA: Cuddling! Who doesn't love snuggling to bed? ESQ: Do you even like dressing for cold weather, even though you get to wear nice clothes? Or do you just prefer bikinis and lingerie at all times? NA: Bikinis and lingerie! It might sound weird, but I'm much more comfortable wearing less clothes. ESQ: So the world of men is still entitled to a few months of exposed leg and maybe the occasional bathing suit, then? Or do we all have to move down to Miami and hang out with you for that? NA: You will probably have to meet me on a beach somewhere for that. Sorry. ESQ: No apology necessary.
