Flickr Capital New York Daily News It's not such a heavy step up from some of the other roles she's taken on (Private Lives of Pippa Lee, E&A), it's not her first major movie role (Savages is), and Soderbergh is known for getting good performances with actors who've had experience on tv series and a decent script. He's taken one unnecessary risk, IMO (Sasha whatserface), but that was for a very specific role (same reason they cast her on Entourage ). The rest have turned out pretty well. I like that he still thinks outside the box when it comes to casting and everything else, especially when so many of his stature are content to rest on their laurels and churn out the same old stuff with the same actors everyone else uses.

The date stamp on that tweet is Sunday, and the earlier tweet on the 19th makes it sound like whatever he is working on in Paris will happen on a Monday. He also mentions New Orleans and says "reunited" in that previous tweet on the 19th .... referring to Blake? There were no pix of her going to N.O. until the 20th. Maybe he worked with her on the Chanel shoot and that's why he posted the old pic. His friend says he can't post the new ones, and happens to mention Elle, the mag we were speculating about before based on tweet about an Elle intern who met Blake. Lots of coincidences. On the other hand, that intern was in NY and other tweets place her coming back to Boston on Monday afternoon. And would a stylist have immediate access to new pix taken for a major magazine like Elle? Anyway, if it is some kind of hoax it's a pretty sophisticated one. But no worries, I have faith there will be at least one cover somewhere for Savages.

I was just saying that to someone about Deadline. Any reader of Nikki Finke knows how much she loves reporting on this kind of backroom drama, and how much pride she takes in her contacts and scoops. Variety (who first reported on Annapurna backing out) is no slouch, either. I'm not sure I believe Playlist (where the story originated about why financing fell through) would have the whole story while the others wouldn't have any hint of it. But if there is any truth to the Playlist story, Soderbergh for his part seems to be ok with letting the deal fall through, for whatever reason(s). That said, I wouldn't be surprised if certain actors made their interest known after the casting news broke. It's especially competitive among actresses because the good parts are so few and far between. If I was an actress in that environment, I'd probably rather not see another new kid get a toehold (and if anyone knows what can happen for a TV soap star when given the opportunity to work with quality scripts and directors, it's Williams ). This goes part and parcel with the recent interviews with Soderbergh where he talks about his impending retirement. He says he's fed up with the business and he wants to be done in a year. With that in mind, you have to figure he's probably not going to be waiting around for some star to fit him into their schedule, and is going to be pretty adamant about working with the actors he wants to work with.

It's the night before Oscar noms and I can't sleep. I wouldn't put much stock in E's picks. I can see Oldman or Fassbender being nominated, but not both (even though both are very worthy, IMO). I'm going with Clooney, DiCaprio, DuJardin, Fassbender, and Pitt in my little office wager. Fassbender has two acclaimed performances this year and Oldman has been overlooked so many times (never nominated!) that I'm thinking it might happen again. Or, they will give the nod to Oldman because he's been slighted so many times - I can't decide. Either way, I think Leo's spot is secure. In a new interview with Steven Soderbergh it's referred to as The Bitter Pill... not much info about it, but it's an interesting read, especially the part about his reasons for retiring. Thanks for all the pix, news, and tweets! Ooh I hope she is going to Paris for the Chanel show! But I don't know if GG or RIPD are finished filming... I'll throw Sundance into the guess pool. Tonight is the premiere of a new film with DeNiro from the director of Buried (RR film from a couple years ago that I still haven't seen -- too claustrophobic ). A teeny bit about Savages... Forward The sooner, the better! These pix from aren't new (mostly from the GL premiere), but they're so nice and BIG International Business Times The Haywire pix were a nice surprise. The top is great -- silver and gold tones are so pretty with her eyes and hair. I like the skirt too, but it's hard to wear textured knit with pleats and have it not look bulky unless you wear it loose. I don't get the navy tights. Maybe she thought they were black? I've done that many times. Or maybe it's a new trend... Anyway, I like the overall youthful look she has going on, right down to the natural looking hair and makeup. If there is any justice in the world, this would be the last season. The last episode was just AWFUL, like the worst episode of television I've seen in a long, long while. :yuckky: I watched it with the sound off - again. I can't blame them for wanting a sixth season, but I hope Blake is allowed to work less if she wants. It seems like they take up a lot of her time but don't give her anything to do (certainly not anything good). But apparently we have something to thank Mr. Safran for: HuffPo: 'Gossip Girl Turns 100' Aww Penny's probably just making sure she's not mistaken for a chew toy. Thanks for all the articles and pix! The Side Effects will start filming in New York in May. Coming Soon Sounds like a great blend of humor, drama, and romance -- can't wait! Quentin knows his stuff. I still haven't seen GL... I'm just not a fan of movies based on comic books in general, though I liked Nolan's Batman movies and Robert Downey Jr. playing himself as Iron Man alright, and Ryan's take on Deadpool / Wade Wilson in Blade and Wolverine was hilarious and the best part of both movies. I have seen clips of GL and read reviews, and the main problem seems to lie with the script and some of the special effects. Bringing it back to Blake, I would love to see her work with Uma again, and QT would be an awesome person to do it Yeah, the fans who constantly bag on other actors on the message boards and stuff don't seem to realize the disservice they're doing. Once in awhile for snarky fun is one thing, but to do it with such intensity reflects badly and can create a backlash. I read an interview with Leighton where they asked about her post-GG plans and she said she didn't know, she was going to go garden or something like that. It could just be the image she wants to present, but hey, if she wants to take a laid back approach to her career more power to her (and maybe her fans should take note ). As for Lainey and her minions, I chalk it up to the fact they need something to write about to get attention, the haters need someone to cut down to make themselves feel better, and Blake has obviously caught all of their imaginations in a big way. Smart young woman. Are we sure Penny's not in the blanket? I kid, I kid... I just have to say this is one cute fit man, with his Chucks, slim pants, sweaters, and vests. Really loving his style.

I'm sure it would be easier for her to fall in line with expectations and go after the typical lightweight romcoms and make good money doing so, but no. She's obviously not afraid of the challenge and hard work, and not in it to make a quick buck. And manages to do it while working a long GG schedule (how many episodes this year? 24?) and maintaining a relationship. More power to her!

Although if this was to come true, I'd really like proper closure for Serena since they've done a piss poor job on her character so far. Thanks for all the pix, news, vids, and tweets! That dream is classic. Looks like Blake's time in her HS show choir paid off, at least in the choreography. I think they're using Marilyn's voice (or whomever was singing for Marilyn), but not sure... there are a lot of MM imitators. Lol @ Chace's commentary ("Who is that handsome guy in the corner?" so modest ) and Blake's mock 'crying' at the end ("Maybe someday they will give me another dream and, and we we can do it better") is a hoot. ETA: Looks like the MM video has been taken off YouTube by WB (though it's still making the rounds on Twitvid). Was anyone able to save it (can you save videos off YT)? Oh well, it was up long enough for NY Mag to give their nod of approval. Well, they're adorable, but I can't help but feel bad for them. I figured out they were probably spending the holiday in Utah from some random tweets I saw about a week beforehand but I didn't post them in the chance that some journalist or paparazzo would read it (very slight chance, I know, but still ). Oh well... at least they are cute pix.

You gals are so bad! She looks supremely annoyed by the paparazzo at the train station to me (notice the side eye she's shooting him from underneath the hat). That's the same one who's been camped outside Ryan's apartment and the RIPD set for as long as he's been in town. I guess since he's already got a bajillion leaving the apartment pix and RIPD isn't filming outdoors anymore, he's expanded his horizons to the train station. He could learn some manners from those people in CT. Lots of sightings, but it looks like not one person whipped out a camera to play paparazzo. Good for them. As much as I love new pix, they deserve some privacy. Nice words from Blake's GG co-star Sheila Kelly (I remember her from a lot of 90's movies and tv series -- had no idea she was on the show)...

Thanks for all the pix, news, and tweets! Cool! Can't wait for April! I hope Savages is ready in time for some of the film festivals, too (is Cannes too much to hope for? ) 30 Rock as in the show? Or is that the address for NBC? New Yorkers, help me out here. I just noticed the tv series films at Silvercup Studios sometimes, like GG. Needless to say, I would love love love to see her guest on that show. I doubt it because the lighter storyline doesn't seem to have translated into a lighter workload where she could take weeks off at a time -- at least not since she wrapped Savages. She still seems to be working at least a few days almost every week, and long hours at that. I haven't watched the show from the beginning, but it sounds like they may have written the character into a dead end. I've seen that happen on other shows, where a popular character will be overused and exploited without enough thought given to character development and storylines and they end up ruining what what made the character and the show popular in the first place. And I don't know what her contract is like, but if she has an option not to re-new on the final year it's possible they don't expect her to come back and want to diminish the character's importance so they're not left with a big hole to fill. The introduction of the Ivy character could be another nod to that. Lol at the Us Weekly reporter asking the tweeter where they were going, like she would know their itinerary... tells you something about their "sources." The tweeter seems legit, though... I wonder what's in Dallas... maybe just a connecting flight from Utah.

She's said interior design is one of her interests, and she was in the ID section of the bookstore in those twitpix a couple weeks ago (with Ryan in Boston)... and doesn't Lori do something in that field? Not sure, but Blake seems to follow her muse, whether it's cooking, French classes, talking about opening restaurants someday... she doesn't seem to limit herself, which I think is pretty cool.
