There is a certain modern rejection of Western tradition in the arts, due to its perceived immorality, Christianity, and elitism (art for the nobility equals bad). This extends to architecture as well. So modern architecture and art have to be ideologically socialist and non-religious, rather than traditional.
I have often thought this (since I was about 18), about what culture and the environment would look like if Europe/US were more traditional. Like cities would not be rebuilt in the socialist or modern art style, and instead adopt neoclassical architecture or modernized forms popular in the 19th century.
People would also dress differently, and much more formally like they did in the 19th century.
