It seems like a genre that was once mainstream but it turned more niche since the 1990s-early 2000s. RTS is like that, even though Starcraft 2 was great there has been no plans to make Starcraft 3.

Honestly I never got into turn-based games. I love RTS though. I tried playing Commandos 2 as a kid many times but just couldn't get into it. I have the same issue with Magic Cards. I love the Witcher 3 more than any other game but I haven't bothered to learn how to play Gwent yet lol.
