An 8 episode series is more appropriate to the length and complexity of the story. It is interesting how they casted a good looking guy, age appropriate. The other French series was book accurate but they casted an old dude that looked too severe and charmless to me:

Pretty much every major German WW2 movie The Bridge, Stalingrad 1993, Generation War (very hamfisted), etc. plus the films about extremely minor characters in the grand scheme of things like Sophie Scroll etc. The choice of topics is quite obvious that they would never do a serious historically movie/show work from an authentic German army's point of view due to contemporary politics. Outside of Der Untergang (Downfall) which I like the rest are marred with artificial writing. The way the 'German band of brothers' (Generation War) was written compared to "Band of Brothers" is like night & day. American movies from the German POV also have a huge ahistorical distortion and a hamfisted artificial message about 'the Good German vs. the Nazi' due to Cold War era politics and afterwards - All Quite on the Western Front, Valkyrie, Bridge from Remagen, The Desert Fox, Iron Cross etc. In western films they will often put in a 'Good German' vs the Nazi character- eg. Schindler's List & the Pianist to balance things out.

Pretty pathetic and very corrupt- as only 13.8 Billlion of the 60 Billion is for equipment and ammunition for Ukraine. The US 155mm artillery shell has so much price inflation that last time I checked it was an absurd $8,000 a round. $11.3 Billion for continued US support- probably ISR & logistics. Ukraine is rated CC, heading to default on its debt even with all the aid.

is there a trailer for it? From reading the book, I think the character & appearance of Monte Cristo is readily apparent: 1. The first version of him (pre-prison) is that of an idealistic, hard working young man with a bright future ahead of him. But extremely trusting of the goodness of people and their motives to the point where he is blinded by his 'goodness' and is quite naive. 2. Post-prison version is that of a completely changed man. Dumas did not write much of a transition period for Dantes in his prison chapters so it's almost like a day vs night paradigm shift. 3. The character of the Count is of a man who has become warped and twisted. His physical appearance and his surroundings is a mix of middle-eastern elite & european. Like a Saudi royalty. His ship is decked out like an Arab vessel. In terms of personality he alters between having star power: a charismatic socialite & billionaire but also a super manipulative & at times bombastic villain, who wants to destroy the lives of the people who destroyed him in the most elaborate and slow-drip type of psychological torture. There is also a darkly philosophical and mature side of him in-between. Neither the new film nor the new one has a Monte Cristo that entirely looks like the one in the books. In the 2002 version of Monte Cristo they chose to go with the 'Count Dracula' look which is not book accurate as they don't include the middle eastern personality & tastes. But IMHO James did a good job with the character to make him very interesting. But it's not the complete character of Monte Cristo, which is really hard task for any actor. The new film has Monte Cristo looking like a villain in dark European dress- not what I imagine either. The actress that played Mercedes did a good job and is similar to the one in the book. I do wonder if the films will do a cop-out and give her a happy ending. Her torturous ending in the book is one that 19th century devout Christians would relate to but can be perceived as 'patriarchy'/sexist & too brutal for modern audiences. I also wonder if they will include Haydee his young female slave. This character is as important as Mercedes also not politically correct either. She was completely absent from the 2002 film even though she is critical in the story and the ending.

Alex D. is around my age but she literally does not age. I have 3 deep-ass brow furrows, 2 very small folds undernealth the eyes and I am 'lucky'. I wonder if she gets some kind of treatment like other actresses? Circa 2010 and 2024

Time to watch Fall out.. I watched some of the show, it's a lot of fun and loyal to the source material. I wish all media made from games could be this accurate.

I wish that it was politically correct to do films from the German perspective. The problem with German POV war films is that they always have a huge political bias rather than trying to present things as they historically were. What filmmakers do in film/TV is 'condense' battles for the camera. So most of it does not look like what historical records say. The achievement of the crew that did BOB/Pacific/MOA/SPR is that they make compromises with what happened vs what is filmable, leading to a pretty good result. Real WW2 combat has the troops spread widely apart (not very filmable) outside of assembly areas, also the fighting takes place over the course of days typically rather than within minutes. There is a lot of positional fighting that creeps forward rather than very rapid movement. The vast majority of men are casualties due to artillery & mortar fire rather than bullets. On SPR film, the Omaha beach had around 2,000 American casualties in a pretty small area so it was a killing field so to speak.

The whole premise that California & Texas unite to attack DC doesn't make any sense too. It appears (I also skimmed the film's cam rip) that the movie treads softly on the concept and is pretty shallow. The civil war idea is very undeveloped in the film. This whole concept of US civil war was better tacked in the comic series DMZ (also a short-lived series). It has huge potential as we now know the key factors (ideological, regional, and cultural) dividing the country. An objective (non-political and historical) and highly informed writer could make something huge about it. I am surprised that Drinker can splice together so much footage from the film and not get a copyright strike.
