^If memory serves his character wasn't given a great deal of backstory. In the real world, he was some kind of conman/forger who'd worked with the others before, and in the dream sequences he was good at disguising himself and mimicking others.

^I think we all knew it was too soon for a Spidey reboot but I gave it a go and was pleasantly surprised all round. The presentation reminded me more of Ultimate Spider-Man, with Parker more smart loner than awkward nerd (as in the Raimi version). Both actors bring different strengths to the role, of course - Tobey Maguire was great in scenes of family interaction, Andrew is great at the general wisecracking superhero antics. I thought the chemistry between Garfield and Emma Stone was better than that of Tobey and Kirsten too. Overall, I'd put this one behind 'Spider-Man 2' but ahead of the first Tobey movie. I watched part one recently and I really don't think it's aged all that well. Hopefully, this will be like when 'Batman Begins' came out - relatively successful in theaters, more so on DVD, followed by genuine excitement for the next one. A sequel not competing with Avengers or Batman should tear up the box office.

^Thanks, I hadn't seen it until now. It probably sounds like an odd thing to say, but I actually find Tom Hardy easier to understand as Bane than as his character in 'Inception'. Is it just me though, or is the dubbing a little off in parts? Maybe it's just in the prologue and not the final film but at the moment, I get the impression that Bane's voice is 'on top' of everything else as opposed to being a part of the mix, if that makes any sense.

As disappointed as I'd be too (were I a Milan fan), the Ibra/Silva deal might not be such a bad one in this odd era of stupidly rich owners and economic depression. Zlatan is approaching 31 and probably has a shelf-life of maybe two or three more years if he's lucky. Silva will be a loss at the back but there should be at least a couple of capable players available for relatively little outlay. The problem will be if Milan go for a 'star' replacement like Carlos Tevez, where they'll no doubt be quoted some ridiculous fee by Man City. Could Kaka be an option? It's also hard not to sympathise with the other teams in Ligue 1. In years to come, no-one will have anywhere near the resources to compete with an increasingly impressive PSG and their seemingly unlimited funds.

Jessica Ennis, MBE (born 28 January 1986 in Sheffield) is a British track and field athlete specialising in multi-eventing disciplines and 100m hurdles. A member of the City of Sheffield Athletic Club, she is the former European and world heptathlon champion and the former world indoor pentathlon champion. She is the current British national record holder for both the heptathlon and the indoor pentathlon. Background One of two daughters born to Vinnie Ennis and Alison Powell, Jessica Ennis has a younger sister called Carmel. Her father, originally from Jamaica, is a self-employed painter and decorator; her mother, a social worker, was born in Derbyshire. Neither of her parents was particularly athletic, but her father did some sprinting at school whilst her mother favoured the high jump. They introduced her to athletics by taking her to a 'Start:Track' event at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium during the 1996 school summer holidays. In later years she joked that her parents took her to the event because "I think my mum and dad wanted me out of the house!" She won her first athletics prize there – a pair of trainers. More importantly, it was there that she met the man who was to become her coach, Toni Minichiello. She took to the sport immediately and joined the City of Sheffield Athletic Club the following year, aged eleven. In November 2000, aged fourteen, she won the Sheffield Federation for School Sports Whitham Award for the best performance by a Sheffield athlete at the National Schools Championships, where she won the high jump competition. Growing up in the Highfield area of Sheffield, Ennis attended Sharrow Primary School and King Ecgbert School in Dore, where she sat her GCSEs and stayed on in the sixth form to gain three A-Levels, before going on to study Psychology at the University of Sheffield, graduating in 2007 with a 2:2. Ennis lives in Sheffield with her chocolate Labrador Myla. She got engaged to long-term boyfriend Andy Hill on Christmas Eve 2010. She is a fan of Sheffield United. She writes a column for The Times newspaper and is a patron for businessman Barrie Wells's sports foundation. Ennis is also an Ambassador for the Jaguar Academy of Sport. She has been involved in advertising campaigns for Aviva, Powerade, BP, Adidas, Omega watches and Olay 'Essentials', and was featured on the cover of the August 2012 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.

Clearly, I haven't paid enough attention to these guys over the last few months. This one is a bit like The Strokes if they replaced Julian with Napoleon Dynamite, which needless to say, I use as a compliment.

^Tricky to pinpoint anyone specific - I can detect a little of Lykke Li in her voice, but the general approach (resolutely pop but drawing on folk and electro themes) reminds me more of Ellie Goulding. Also thought this song was pretty intriguing (forgive me Don, as it's not from 2012 ). Squint your ears a bit and it could be Kate Bush doing 'It's Blitz'-era Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

I guess it goes without saying that they'll have to go some to equal the second movie, but for what it's worth I believe they've really nailed Bane as a character. Menacing, imposing, calculating and just generally spot on. The showdown between he and the returning Batman is going to be absolutely chilling. Additional: one of the best things my eyes have seen in a while - the movie trailer recreated using old clips from the Batman animated series.

Without wishing to engage too much in idle speculation, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character as a stand-in Batman for at least part of the movie. The trailers hint at some kind of incapacitation for Bruce Wayne and I see a little of Christian Bale's facial structure in Joseph.
