2012 SI Swimsuit
Is there going to be a novelty bikini this year? I don't always like them, but I did swoon over the guitar pick bikini Bar was wearing a few years back. So sexy:

Rebecca Romijn
I've seen this picture many times, but never realized how stunning beautiful it was until I turned it right side up. That necklace is visually fascinating (is it letters?), and the white bikini, and the flawless face and blue eyes and upswept hair... I love big jewelry paired with skimpy clothing; it's so sexy! Frederique Van der Wal
That's my reaction too! But in Frederique's heyday, VS and SI hadn't started trading girls yet. Her frequent VS costar Jill Goodacre didn't do SI either. There was only Stephanie, who had come from SI. The floodgates opened after that, and it became common: Daniela, Rebecca, Yasmeen, etc. all started with VS and then did SI.

Frederique Van der Wal
I was just thinking: why didn't Frederique ever do SI? She'd have been fantastic in it, and even the core SI demographic (the ones who buy SI the rest of the year when it's not the swimsuit issue) would have loved her body. Can't understand it.

2012 SI Swimsuit
Here's a great quote from Camilla Paglia in Salon about 4 years ago: "But even the annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, which used to be a luscious winter extravaganza of sinuous tigresses or golden California gals lolling in sultry, exotic locales, has now become utterly boring and flat. The artistry, charm and provocation are gone; all that's left is empty, mechanical attitudinizing. Yet another cultural landmark down the tubes." So true! http://www1.salon.com/opinion/paglia/2008/...one/index2.html

2012 SI Swimsuit
I wish they would do something sexier and more provocative. Maybe have one shot that pushes the envelope towards toplessness. I can't believe they haven't gone further than that famous Cheryl Tiegs fishnet maillot shot from a generation ago. Come on, it's 2012. A tiny flash of nipplage, blurred motion, whatever. Get people talking about the issue again. The bodypainting does not cut it in that department. It's so photoshopped/airbrushed that it almost looks like computer graphics. And it's become increasingly lame. Last year was a new low. I agree they have to stop altering the girls so much. And use fewer of them. There's no need for an entire platoon. Get 5-6 really beautiful girls, get creative with them, and make every picture count, like they used to do.

General women in lingerie thread
How do people feel about "cami-bras"? I must admit I'm kind of partial to them, though that might be because I've seen Jill Goodacre in so many that I kind of associate the category with her! Wasn't she just the best?

Cindy Crawford
That's good news! Cindy is the only model I've ever wanted to actually clone. OK, that's not possible yet, but I wish she'd donate some eggs to science, so we can figure out how to make more of her, or at least spread her genes more widely. The question is, which man's genes to pair her's off with... Fascinating question - any ideas?

Rebecca Romijn
Ditto. Hey Chocolate, who's that incredibly beautiful girl in your sig pic? Is it Christy?

Models from the Eighties
Very young Heather Stewart Whyte Thanks fender, but I don´t think so. Maybe it´s the same model I mixed with Heather in her topic: http://www.bellazon.com/main/index.php?s=&...t&p=2087192 I'm a big Heather fan, and checked out these pictures. I was sure that the girl on the right was Heather; the girl on the left I could believe is not; if it's definite that they are the same girl, then I don't know which way to go. However, I checked Heather's bio again, and Wikipedia lists her as born in Sept. '68, FMD, Sept. '69 If this layout is from Sept. '84, that would make her, at the oldest, 15 years old at the time of shooting, which seems implausible. FMD also says that she first briefly started modeling at 17, then dropped out for awhile and started again at age 21. That would be around 1990 or so, and her earliest covers etc are from 1991, so that fits. Conclusion: If this layout is from '84, the girl, however lovely, cannot be Heather.

Jill Goodacre
Just found this in a VS scan from Stephanie's topic, and cropped it out. Don't think I've ever seen it before; it's very nice.

Jill Goodacre
Here's a nice treatment of Jill by pinup artist Jennifer Janesko, who has a very feminine style which I enjoy. Her pictures are like female fantasies of absolute beauty. Well, hers, anyway - she started drawing in childhood, she says. I think Jill's eyes are green, though...

Sara Stout
Thanks, Nightowl! Yes, that certainly looks like her. Not the best surname for a model, huh? She's anything but.
-
Niki Taylor
Is this actually Niki, scratching her butt? Looks like her, given the hair and how good the body is, but I haven't seen that many (or maybe any) pics of her from the back:

Sara Stout
Who is this? Her face and figure have such nice clean lines to them. I think this pic was from Newport News, but I'm not sure:
-
Heather Stewart Whyte
At first I thought the first was just a more brightly-colored (colorized?) version of the second, but actually it's hand up vs. hand down, shoe-holding wrist more angled. And you get your choice of which way you like her boob better.

Niki Taylor
Technical question: Is that bikini bottom a scoop, or a V? Enquiring minds want to know! (BTW, that's a better scan than the versions I have, thanks MizzElin!)

Heather Stewart Whyte
My two favorite VS brunettes!

- Heather Stewart Whyte
I think you're right about it being both; that's my guess also. They probably were putting the stuff on her that would play up that aspect of her figure, so that she - and the lingerie they're trying to sell - would look as fantastic as possible. Sigh, there was nothing like 90's VS, and probably never will be again. I like the sporty look too with some muscles in the sbs - Rebecca, Eva when she did VS shows, and Marissa Miller, who has the most beautiful belly. Not too much of a 6-pack though! There's not just one type of beautiful female body. And of course curvy girls rock - curves are beauty for women! Otherwise, they'd look like men, and who would want that?- Christy Turlington
There's no other aesthetic experience quite like that of seeing a beautiful woman wearing a picture of herself. I think this was from some Lacroix show in '94? Yasmeen also has some self-portrait-wearing shots from that; was there anybody else? I'd like to see them all.- Heather Stewart Whyte
In case there's any doubt that she rules in black lingerie. Notice that in almost all of her VS shots, she's smiling into the camera. That's her style.- Dana Douglas
Here's a bigger version of one of the shots above. I've had this for along time, and thought she was too obscure to have a page anywhere, but I was wrong. She's very pretty. I love that "holding the heel" pose she has - it's such a classically sexy move!- Cindy Crawford
Cindy with IMO her only real rival, Christy: From the website www.herfamedgoodlooks.com, which seems barely functional right now... - Heather Stewart Whyte
