I didn't want them to win for all the thuggery throughout the tournament. Van Bommel could and perhaps should have gotten a red in every game!
  4. Oops Lost track of this thread, sorry guys. Give me a bit of time and I'll post something up.

Except for the comedy value, of course.

I'm going to have to find reasons to use the phrase "I'm taking my talents down to South Beach" in everyday situations.

You have to admire his initial restraint. I wouldn't have bothered with answering a couple of questions first but instantly planted a wet one on her she would have bragged about to our grandkids.

One advantage Spain might have: They played three of their six games so far at altitude. Holland only one out of six. The final is played at altitude.

Spain has been faced with 8-9 men behind the ball nearly every game (not counting Honduras and Chile), no team in the world will score four or five goals against an opponent who uses such ultra-defensive strategies. I admire them for their patience and the way they kept their composure even when the goal did not come immediately. Brazil created their own downfall. They were woefully unequipped to fight back from a deficit. That's what happens when your only true creative force up front just came off a woefully bad season with his club and your midfield is otherwise packed with defensive-minded destroyers and a guy who plays as a rightback for his club. Holland, who employed slightly similar tactics, at least have Robben and Sneijder who can create something out of nothing and have the likes of Van Der Vaart and Elia to throw on when they really need a goal. Brazil was - shockingly - done the moment Holland scored the 2-1. Fred: no one has the moral obligation to play an open game against the Spanish, but then the public cannot expect Spain to score three or four goals every game either. Any team that packs the area around their own goal with 8-9 players will asphyxiate the opponents attackers, no matter how talented they are and in how many numbers they attack. The passing lanes are near nonexistent in such tight spaces. There were times where I saw 15-16 players on a patch of 25 m

So since when has Tom Brady start using Justin Bieber's hair stylist?

They're a lot more likable than either Brazil or Argentina were. And I say that as a Messi fan.

I won't miss them. They're welcome to come back once they play like Brazil again.

  18. Actually, her peers in the Spanish media have rushed to her defense. She's apparently a very professional individual and a good journalist. Although her situation is a microcosm of what is is like to be an attractive woman in a professional environment. Some people will always assume you got there courtesy of your looks and not your talent or abilities.

I don't like the way Holland and Brazil are playing. Far too calculated, negating everything their style of play used to stand for. They've basically driven me into the arms of Germany for the remainder of the tournament! :|

I was not saying that the calls weren't obviously wrong. I simply believe that the winner would have been the same regardless of the decision there. England dominated for 15 minutes. Germany for the remaining 75. And as I said before, those counter-attacking goals were not a result of England forcing too many men forward but them failing to set up properly for two standard situations. That kind of negligence can lead to a counter-attacking goal just as easily at 2-2 as it did at 2-1.

I never understood this obsession in some circles to try and convince the Americans of the merits of the game. If they don't like it, then fine. It's already by far the most popular game in the world, does it really need North-America to embrace it as well?

It's not unusual for a team to have that many players in the box for a set play. It is unusual for them to have no cover behind the free kick taker.

Those easy counter attacks were caused by England's failure to set up properly for a free kick and throw-in respectively. The score-line had little effect on either.
