August 4, 20159 yr Neither does a successful blues/jazz star. It's a genre most known in the USA, in the rest of the world is very more difficult to find, so just for this reason they're not legends. Blues, though originated in the USA is worldwide known too and I have no issues at all at finding Blues/Jazz music over here. Also, Blues is the basis for virtually all of today's popular music, which includes all those from the previous list. People like Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday were not just "successful blues singers" but they were key figures in defining the genre and opening doors for Afroamerican artists at the time. And they are a huge influence on tons of music to come, be it Jazz, Rhythm and Blues, Rock, Pop, Funk, Soul, etc. They practically influenced the pop music industry, if that's not impact I don't know how to call it. They're part of an already stablished pop music industry. The one having real impact in that matter can be Madonna. I can only save Etta James, Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin but the others.. Ella Fitzgerald, Bessie Smith or Billie Holiday are just as important in music history if not more than them. Again, if you haven't heard of them that doesn't make them any less relevant. Yeah, infact I consider all the people in my list a legend for this exact reason. I can't do the same with yours. But that's our own opinions, peace out. You can't say that someone has transcended it's time when it has a career that started like 10 years ago.
