Lothar Schmid discovered his love for photography and studied in his native Switzerland. He had his first assignment at French Elle at the age of 21 which set off his international career in fashion and beauty photography. Clients included Elle, British Vogue, Marie Claire, The Sunday Times Magazine, Yves Saint Laurent and Dior.

In the early 1980’s Lothar arrived in New York City where the great Alexander Liberman mentored him further and entrusted him with regular assignments for Vogue and GQ. Later he worked for The New York Times Magazine. Advertising campaigns for Chanel, Givenchy, Lancel, Cartier, Vichy, Lancome, L’Oreal Group followed.

Lothar continues shooting for magazines, advertising campaigns and personal projects. His celebrity photos include Catherine Deneuve, Diane Kruger, Sophie Marceau, Lea Seydoux, Olga Kurylenko, Jeremy Irons, Marcello Mastriani, Paulo Coelho and others.He lives in Switzerland and divides his professional time between Paris and the US .

Lothar Schmid aims to create images that are distilled to elegant simplicity and survive the trends of fashion.
