She did more than people thought she would. And she surely stayed popular for longer than people thought she would. I remember those days when people only saw Adriana as the VS girl and basically talked as if that was going to be the end for her. She's still successful, she still popular as hell, and is 100% a household name. And now, she can say she has been honored and awarded not once but TWICE in the industry. I gotta applaud her for that. She proved people wrong. She will now have two fashion awards, she really is SOMEBODY in the modeling industry whether people like it or not. Because its not easy to maintain relevance and a career for this long. And its def not easy to be honored by the industry more than once

 

Now, as I said, I really hope for her sake she has a good look. Great hair and makeup that is beautiful but nothing like what Patrick Ta be doing. Just a good makeup and Adriana looking confident, not sucking in her cheeks or anything. She has the chance to really shine and I hope she uses that

 

 

Well.. Besides of Gisele , she is one of the VS Angel of the old guard who still have relevance in industry. I think she proof she's not just a pretty face, she's a wonderful model. If we talk about her career I guess she was very smart in all her steps. Maybe someone will talk about Alessandra or Candice. But no one her has the impact Adriana has. The only thing I really love to see is her create something like her own brand, like a swin , lingerie or gym. I really don't want to her to create like a make up of skincare brand. I think we alredy have to much of celeb/model brand of beauty.

Yeah basically. I will say Isabeli Fontana still does a good amount of work too, like you still see her. However, she isn't as popular in terms of people knowing/thinking about her as Adriana. Pretty much only Gisele can match the kind of relevance Adriana continues to have. Which says a lot because its Gisele.

Yeah I saw heidi is now with lo'real paris that shocked me lol. I don't think she ever got a deal like that but she does at her age. Although I still wouldn't compare heidi's career with any of there's either because Heidi truly did not do much lol. And Adriana doesn't have the career of like Gisele. But Adriana always does enough for you to see she is clearly a model that is still booked

I don't follow Heidi as much.. but I remember she always in 2nd or 3rd at the highest paid model.. But as far as I know no one have a career like Gisele.. the only one who can get a little closer is Bella Haddid, bc she always in campaign, runway, covers. And about Adriana, she is doing more after she had her 3rd baby, than before. but anyway I relly enjoy see her in almost everything. I hope she goes to Cannes Festival this year too.

That is because Heidi used to be with VS and got like good hosting jobs. I don't recall Heidi getting many fashion campaigns. And Karl Langford mocked her saying did she know what paris fashion week was because thats how little jobs outside of VS she was doing

I honestly think it's unfair at this point to compare some of these models and the trajectory their careers have taken.  They're all just so different.

 

Gisele- clearly the GOAT.  She's straddled both commercial and high fashion realms flawlessly.  Walked every catwalk, done every campaign, been a muse to every single designer practically and on top of that she was a VS superstar (for the relatively short time she was there).  And not to diminish her accomplishments, but her famous boyfriends (Leo) and ex-husband (Tom Brady) made her visible to all of those midwesterners in America that have never looked at Vogue/Elle/etc.  She's become the face of an entire country, Brazil, and she's a part of the cultural zeitgeist in a way that none of the other models except the 90s supers are.  

Heidi- she really didn't do much at all in fashion.  I think I can count her runway shows other than VS on one hand.  Her fame is really due to VS and Sports Illustrated.  She's dabbled in a few fashion editorials before (Her Citizen K cover and editorial playing the Amish milkmaid is incredible to me) but her sphere was commercial.  She took the opportunity to pivot to hosting (Germany's Next Top Model, Project Runway, America's Got Talent, etc.) and that's really where she became a household name, again where your average midwesterner could recognize.  I'm also a bit shocked that at this stage she did get a L'oreal contract, but I think she's a phenomenal spokesperson and she plays to her strengths.

 

These two (+Tyra and Kate Moss) I really think are the only models outside of the 90s supers that your average American can name and associate a face too in their age group: 40s-50s. 

If we want to talk about Adriana's peers from the 2000s then you have the HF models who are still top models working that no one knows (Raquel, Mariacarla, Karen Elson, and I would even include Isabeli in here) outside of the industry and you have the VS girls who although popular don't really have the same legacy (like Miranda Kerr) with the exception of Candice (but she's 6-7 years younger).

 

I think it's really just Adriana and Alessandra that are the "biggest" names outside of fashion from their specific era.  I love Ale, but I'll concede that Adriana has her beat when it comes to name recognition on the street and her fashion profile.  But the two of them are still standing, along with Isabeli, after the Brazilian wave and that says a lot considering some of the girls that were more popular than them at the beginning of their careers (Raica, Ana BB, Mariana Weickert, Caroline Ribeiro, Ana Claudia Michels, and Marcelle Bittar) now don't work much internationally.  I think it's a testament that Ale and Adriana both have 21 Vogue covers and are still active models booking more than let's say Karolina Kurkova at the moment who was HUGE when she first started.  Now what I don't personally understand, and I mean no hate, is how Irina seems to have catapulted over both Ale and Adriana to reach her level of success.  It obviously helped to have STRONG industry support (Donatella Versace, Riccardo Tisci, Piergiorgio, Edward, etc.) and two famous exes (Bradley Cooper and Cristiano Ronaldo) but her level of success in fashion, at least, is insane while still doing commercial money jobs (although maybe not as visible as a VS contract once was).  

I then think you have a number of contenders in the 2010s: Karlie Kloss, Barbara Palvin, Candice, Cara, Gigi, Bella.  I think Gigi and Bella are the current top social media/nepo models that achieved the most out of that crop (Kendall, Kaia, Hailey, etc.) who seem to do everything: media, HF campaigns, commercial jobs, whatever branded deals they get into.  But it's an entirely different generation that we can't really compare.

Anyways, just my two cents.  Several of the models I mentioned are icons, and I'm happy several of them are still around being booked and busy.

I agree with you SO hard about Irina lol. The way she RANDOMLY surpassed them portfolio wise must be studied. Because she does not have a better look than them or talent. Thats why for at least 10 years she was more so like Heidi, except not even as famous or well known. But she was doing strictly sports illustrated, VS didn't even want her as angel. Like. Irina is no gisele in terms of modelling at all, so she should have not surpassed them the way she did, especially with it being out of no where. Its kinda crazy when people feed into that and pretend like she is exceptional and thats why after 10 years she got a spike in her career, nah. And she isn't more attractive than them either. 

 

But, I must say its the social game she played. She racks up all these A list men (Ronaldo, Bradley Cooper, now TOM BRADY even) and that keeps her name afloat. And to me, she is the opposite of Adriana. Adriana isn't an industry person, well she wasn't. Like, she liked who she liked and befriended who she wanted to befriend. But she was not kissing anyone's ass or doing extra things to gain strong support in the fashion industry. And I think thats what Irina did. She got her foot in by dating the right people and played a strong social game that made her favored. However, IDC what her fans has to say, she didn't get where she was because of talent. If she navigated her career like Adriana and Alessandra who didn't usually date men way more famous than them and who are more selective about who they are close to in the industry, she would have stayed behind them career wise like she was the first 10 years of her career. Irina got lucky but I will never accept her being actually better than Adriana or Alessandra. I don't even think she is truly as famous or liked the way by the general public the way that adriana is. Because at the end of the day Adriana can still say, she was hired by a brand (Victoria's Secret) and she was VERY important to that brand. Some would say she carried it at some point. Irina can't say that about anything she has done. She just booked jobs left and right, but where is the impact? Adriana made impact. Gisele has made impact. Even Tyra who people don't want to consider a supermodel because she too has done less in comparison to models like Irina, but even Tyra has made impact on the industry. Irina has mediocre talent and has yet to actually make impact in the industry but she has conveniently constantly dated some of the biggest names in the world and is more social in the industry, thats the key to her success for me. So she will never be above someone like Adriana in my opinion, Adriana has done all she did and actually made impact without playing a strong social game and without consistently dating men bigger than her.

I love Tyra, I think she is one of the few models who really change the industry, her catwalk, her face, her body, she became herself in the industry being her.. As Irina.. she only is who she is, because of her boyfriends, in especial Cristiano Ronaldo, I didn't know she is dating Tom Brady, but in my opinion, he kinda lost the relevance af the divorce with Gisele and Irina is only know for her cover in SI and some random jobs, I don't even remember her in editorials, beside the one she was with Adriana. For me Irina is just like Izabel Goulart.. One model I do like very much is Vivian Orth. She may not be like Adriana, Alessandra or even Isabeli in question of fame, but she is a great model. Isabeli I like her as a MODEL, but as a person I don't like very much, she is always throw some shade on Adriana, Alessandra.

Yeah I seen that. Gisele is seen hanging out with Ivanka and seems to be friends with her. So yeah, people also assume Gisele is a supporter of that man too. And so people deflected to Adriana following him, which people made a bigger deal about. This is what we have been talking about the whole time about Andre and his politics, and Adriana letting herself be stupidly influenced. I don't understand why Adriana would do such thing knowing people love to hate on her more, she gave them a legit reason to be mean towards her and make viral tweets about her that are bad. Which they are doing now. People should be talking about the fact that she got an award last night, but they aren't. She started working more once she got with Andre so I honestly would not be suprised if he's part of the reason why Adriana is working so much these days, having a good, supportive partner goes a long way. She's honestly never looked better or happier, so whatever he's doing as a partner... keep it going!
