Trump seems to be very keen on being on good terms with Russian oligarchs and Putin over all other considerations, possibly hoping that they will continue helping his family in their quest to become trillionaires...

I do wonder if his huge respect for Xi (personally) is not just diplomacy but also he would like his family to profit from the billionaires and elites of China. Xi is from one of the top 12 political families in China. Both China and the US right now have over 1,000 billionaires.

The Western admiration for Rome and Greece, especially in the alt right.. tend to downplay their gross human rights abuses, including genocide by Caesar in Gaul and how the Spartans were actually an extremely brutal society whose economy was based around slaves while the spartans themselves were the master-warriors.

I've been revisiting the metal gear solid series. The premise of the saga, about an AI surveillance state taking over the world, and a complete AI takeover of information space and the US government is literally what's going on RIGHT now lol. When I played MGS2 as a teen I didn't fully understand it and zoned out despite finishing the game a few times. Now I re-watch it and I can see how it aged like fine wine and is probably the most coherent Metal Gear story.
