June 21, 201410 yr Italians play against Costa Rica was the most boring game ever! All they did was fake, they kept rolling on the ground for penalties and free kicks, and god, how many offsides?? Every other attack was an offside, horrible performance by the Azzuri. But man, France vs Switzerland made up for the lack of goals in the previous game. In 2010 the french team was at its lowest most horrific level of performance, scandals after scandals. But last night, it was a whole new team. Fantastic attacks, fantastic play, the swiss also played be well! What a game.
June 21, 201410 yr Author What great fun Ecuador and Honduras was. Despite the alleged lack of quality in the game, the 90+ minutes felt like half an hour, and there was undoubtedly some skill on show amid the pace, application and gusto. One of my favourite games of the World Cup so far, the sheer intensity and will to win of both teams was gripping. With all the carry on surrounding England, I forgot to mention that I loved Ivory Coast-Colombia too, for much the same reasons. Another lively, end to end game. Colombia have looked a superb attacking side with Cuadrado’s direct running and Rodriguez’s finesse and creativity. Ivory Coast didn’t really give themselves much of a chance until it was too late, disappointingly sloppy in possession at times, especially in the lead up to the second goal. I have to say though, there was some truly awful officiating from Howard Webb & Co towards the end of the game. As if pulling Ivory Coast back for an 'injury' after Colombia had already played on wasn't bad enough, he somehow only came up with four minutes' worth of injury time after six substitutions and tons of stoppages. Then, to make matters worse, he didn't allow for the long stoppage within the added time. I honestly believe that some officials have a pre-planned figure of between one and four minutes in mind, and just stick to it whatever happens.
June 21, 201410 yr Author Alex Song's red card during Cameroon-Croatia gets the old 'hilarious gif' treatment.
June 21, 201410 yr Author Also, not sure if everyone's already heard about this, but it was news to me when I read it this morning. A number of sites are reporting that Gisele Bundchen is going to deliver the trophy for presentation after the final. http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/fashion-models/gisele-bundchen-to-present-world-cup-trophy
June 21, 201410 yr Oh yes, it was revealed a few days ago. Since Dilma is not very popular with all the money spending (although any head of state would have done the same thing, i dont see the big deal), Gisele will give the trophy and i find it incredible that she would do that since usually only the head of the state does that. So happy they chose her out of all Brazilians.
June 21, 201410 yr Author What can I say? We've finally thought of a way to stop getting knocked out on penalties.
June 21, 201410 yr lol sorry found it online, no hard feelings. Argentina vs Iran is quite boring. Actually I am surprised the Persians are good, they have some pretty good defense. Either that or the Argentinians are not at their best, actually both. Reza from the Iranian team is quite good. And lol at Maradona and his 2000 younger gf in the public, the cam showed them a couple of times.
June 21, 201410 yr After a hard half for the Germans Wow,Ghana ,surprisingly,is embarrassing them, can't expect the result of the whole match, any team of both can suddenly steal a goal.
June 21, 201410 yr Author lol sorry found it online, no hard feelings. No apology necessary, it's all in good fun.
June 21, 201410 yr Ghana and Germany had a great second half. I wish Ghana could have pulled off a win though.
June 21, 201410 yr Author This evening was the first time I've ever caught myself groaning at a superb goal by Messi. A well executed gameplan from Iran, which made Argentina look distinctly ordinary for long periods. Without that moment of brilliance (not to mention a rather questionable decision by the referee), they may have even come away with an upset. Germany and Ghana was the proverbial game of two halves, the second one being an absolute blast. The best thing about it was that even at the death, both teams were still trying desperately for the win. Ghana wasted a number of good opportunities, either by delaying their final passes or trying to shoot from impossible positions, but overall, they probably should have edged it. Amazing to see Klose equal Ronaldo's (the Brazilian one) World Cup goalscoring record too. And also, most importantly of all, Sulley Muntari's shorts were utterly ridiculous. Here's a gif summing up my current feelings when a game ends...
June 21, 201410 yr I remember everyone was laughing when an elephant predicted that Ghana would beat Germany in the WC (there was no draw option), but man Ghana stepped up their game! Very good playing from them Rooting for Bosnia now!
June 21, 201410 yr And Ghana continued embarrassing for the Germans, and was closer to a win, very good game from Ghanese, and good,on-point change from Loaf to let Klose in,he was really the key for a fair qualification, though TBH, Ghana deserved to win.
June 22, 201410 yr Wow,what a great night for the Africans,,after a qualification for Ghana, here comes a WIN for Nigeria.
June 22, 201410 yr US should have a relatively easy match tomorrow with Pepe and Coentrão out and Ronaldo still nursing a bum knee.
June 22, 201410 yr Argentina vs Iran- so disappointing, especially Messi's desperate last minute goal. they did nothing for 90 minutes but then- bam- goal! ughhh The first half of Germany vs Ghana bored me to death, but man the second one.....incredible! Another surprise I thought Germany would lead in the game by many goals but no. Now, I somehow want the US team to beat Portugal
June 22, 201410 yr Author On the balance of play, Nigeria were good value for their win last night. Frustration for Bosnia though, especially when you consider their bad luck in Dzeko's goal being wrongly disallowed. Can't help feeling for a decent side who had a real chance of making it to the next round, only to end up with nothing.
June 22, 201410 yr Author Just switched on BBC One expecting to see Messrs Henry and Seedorf discussing the World Cup, instead greeted by 'Songs of Praise'. Still better than the ITV coverage though.
