Joe > Average Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I would have bet my eyebrows that video was from the 80s . I'm curious to learn more about 90s modeling although I'm only interested in pics and not who's currently strung out in the crack house necessarily. Quote
Cult Icon Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Thank you for the reference my dear Kiki, I am very grateful. And how nice this is going to be! If I may ask, how big is your Cache, how wide is your coverage in terms of 1990s models, and how many galleries should we expect? And of course, I remember that you were thinking of fully organizing your galleries model by model. My favorite 1990s supermodel is Eva Herzigova but I am sure that it will change as I learn more from you. Quote
frenchkiki Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 Well you're welcome my dear Cult but I had to *"Reddite quae sunt Caesaris, Caesari, et quae sunt Dei, Deo." as the saying goes As you already know, my external hard drive crashed and I've lost almost all my models collections. It was a 500GB hard drive filled with organized files and about 10 000 pics (+ videos) and now I feel like it's a bit useless to collect so many pictures when it will be lost one day even if you do 2 or 3 back ups. I have magazines from the 80's in my closet that look like brand new but i can't manage to keep pixels saved and that bother me a lot! Anyway! I am trying to rebuilt everything I lost and help you and other members that are interested to get to know amazing women that ruled the fashion world not so long ago =) What do you thing of Nadja? *Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. Joe > Average Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I didn't know you liked Eva, though I assumed she was a 2000s model. Does anyone know what the average starting age for 90s models was? It seems a lot of girls currently start as early as 13 whereas I hear stories of 90s models saying they were spotted in the mall at 19 or in college even. Quote
frenchkiki Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 Eva is definitely a 90's model since she started her career in 1989. Most of the famous and less famous 90's models started their career back in the 80's (Cindy Crawford 1984 born in 66 and she was16 when she was the runner-up at the Elite Look of the Year contest in 1983 - Christy Turlington born in 69 she started to model when she was 14 & became a full time model at 18 - Karen Mulder started in1986 and she was 16 & reached the second place at the Elite look of the year model contest in 1986 -Laetitia started to model at 15 in 1993 and was spotted at the beach... top less! ) Back in 80's/90's girls were very young when they started to model, something like 14. Today it's more like 16 because I think people and parents are more aware of the "danger" it is for a young girl to work in the fashion business. Quote
Cult Icon Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Miss Kiki, I know how you feel!! My harddrive crashed and I did lose a few thousand photos that could have been hosted in my thread. But then I started to save new ones over time, and what you see hosted now are recent saves. How many models do you plan on covering and what are their names? Who are you going to cover next? Well you're welcome my dear Cult but I had to *"Reddite quae sunt Caesaris, Caesari, et quae sunt Dei, Deo." as the saying goes As you already know, my external hard drive crashed and I've lost almost all my models collections. It was a 500GB hard drive filled with organized files and about 10 000 pics (+ videos) and now I feel like it's a bit useless to collect so many pictures when it will be lost one day even if you do 2 or 3 back ups. I am trying to rebuilt everything I lost and help you and other members that are interested to get to know amazing women that ruled the fashion world not so long ago =) What do you thing of Nadja? Yes, I am so very curious about that. As for Nadja, I can't say that I find her incredibly beautiful. This is just personal; I like women who look friendly and have large eyes. Then there's something...blank about her face, like an empty palette. This might be why she is good model; as I don't have any particular female stereotype or impression when I see her. How do you feel about that? Also, what stands out in her gallery is how she manages to look different in every picture. I see a different person in most of these photographs. So I can't really grasp if it's she who did this or photographers that she worked with back then were just much more creative and skilled. The photography in these photos are done well and done by people that are artists rather than the technicians that rose to prominence today. Today it's more like 16 because I think people and parents are more aware of the "danger" it is for a young girl to work in the fashion business. From what I've seen, it looks to me that these models spend a lot of time getting helped by their agencies these days; they rent office space and everything. They probably compete for the same jobs in a closed network that only the elite agencies can provide. I'm apt to believe that it's more institutionalized now than in say, the 1950s. Procurement of labor has gone more 'corporate' and there seems to be less evidence of the whole 'model + muse' phenomenon. Just as you said. Quote
