February 12, 201411 yr Interview for Mama Glow By Latham Thomas Doutzen Kroes: supermodel, mother to Phyllon, wife, Mama Glow Icon I met Doutzen years ago when she had just moved to New York and we instantly became friends. She came to all of my son’s birthday parties and even showed him how to spin a record on her turntables when he was 4 years old. I remember walking down the street with her in NYC and her telling me about her pregnancy with Phyllon. It’s been a pleasure to watch her expand into motherhood and be a positive example in the modeling industry; where many girls are maintaing their bodies through poor lifestyle choices, Doutzen embraces a healthy whole foods diet of glow foods, exercise, adequate rest, and lots of time with family. Doutzen is now expecting her second baby and we couldn’t be happier for her! _____________ Doutzen Kroes is a Dutch model and actress from Eastermar, Friesland, the Netherlands. She began her modelling career in 2003 in Holland but very quickly got sent by her agency to New York where she was cast, among other names, by lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret. Doutzen became an ‘Angel’ for the brand in 2008. Kroes has been featured on the covers of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, W, Seventeen, Time, Avantgarde, Dazed&Confused and Numero along with others and has walked the catwalks for the Mui Mui, Giles, Prada and Zac Posen to name a few. She has been the face of brands such as Gucci, Tommy Hilfiger, Versace, Valentino, Blumarine and Calvin Klein. Her latest major campaigns include L’Oreal, H&M and Tiffany & CO. Doutzen is also actively involved with the non-profit organization Dance4Life, which educates youth about HIV and AIDS prevention through song and dance. In the past year Kroes has been a major player in bringing the Dutch organization to the US. In 2011 Kroes debuted in the first 3D Dutch Movie ever made, Nova Zembla. She has been taking acting classes in New York for several years and plans to star in more movies to come. Doutzen’s main passion in life is her son Phyllon and husband Sunnery James. Doutzen excited fans with her recent pregnancy announcement on Instagram sharing her gorgeous baby bump. This Victoria’s Secret angel has another angel of her own the way. Congrats to Doutzen and Sunnery and soon-to-be big brother Phyllon! What inspires you to do what you do? I love my job and enjoy the people I work with and the travels I make and am definitely inspired by the things I come across while on the job. While the people and things I encounter through work may be more exotic, nothing makes me feel as good as being with my husband and son doing the basic things: cooking, bathing, and playing outside in the garden for example. Being a mom and being with them makes me feel complete and this actually inspires my work. My family inspires my work and vice versa so it all comes full circle. What gives you your glow? Green juices are key for me. They give me energy and make my skin better. My favorites are from the Juice Press. Doutzen on Motherhood. I’ve had the good fortune of working with so many great ladies many of whom are good friends. I do have a great deal of admiration for the models who are juggling careers with motherhood, as well as so many who use their celebrity to raise awareness and funds for charities and social causes.
