This is Day 18, from the Ukrainian General Staff point of view :

SU-25 pilot and his damaged plane:

The Russian army, with this war has just shown their capabilities to the West. Petraeus said it himself on CNN: "They are a lot less well equipped than we expected".

Their reliance on logistics/support light and lightly manned Battalion Tactical Groups and Brigade organizational forms (deceptively named, divisions) show a defensive, rather than an offensive orientation.   The limited attacks and conducted over the past 10 days or so is indicative of a certain lack of a logistical robustness/sustainability compared to conventional full-sized divisions organized into a corps.

Basically the modern Russian army is vastly inferior to the Soviet/Red Army of the Cold War era.  I was thrown off a bit 3 weeks ago, but having done a lot of research since then I feel more re-assured that WW3 is less likely.  The Russian army in their current form is too quantity over quality/obviously not strong enough to attack US/NATO in WW3/conventional fighting.  Putin knows that his army is not designed for that.

A fanatical speech.   This is the commander of Regiment Azov, Putin's Nazis.

They are encircled in Mariupol right now and the Russians are out to get them.

@elfstone

Russian ministry of defense put this on  youtube:  Russian soldiers inspecting captured US Javelins, Panzerfaust 3, and stinger? , hah.

I hope this war will end soon, the URK/RUS are in negotiations.  This war is basically state-sponsored terrorism on a massive scale.

The Russians appear to be more focused on the South than in the North, and making more advances there.  I agree with the analysis that they will focus on clearing Mariupol first.  So the climatic "Battle of Kyiv" is not likely to happen soon.

Zelensky might be "just a comedian" but he's a far better politician than any of the politicians I know.

His communication (sometimes propaganda) is extremely brilliant and efficient (unlike Russia's which is the shadow of its former self). His posture, his clothing, his videos, his chief of war role, his knowledge of social media... all of this is extremely well played. He's a very smooth operator. I understand that, as the attacked party, it's normal to draw compassion, but he's been very efficient at advocating for his country.

He just declared that he won't enter NATO (which is a sign to Putin), which shows that he's already trying to prepare some peace with Russia. That's probably one of the several things Putin wants (along with getting Crimea and Donbas). So he's not "just a comedian", but he's a good negotiator.

I'm more impressed by this guy than the "career politician" Biden...:ninja:

^

Yeah he's a blatantly manipulative character and playing the West like a fiddle so far, and getting billions in aid.  He also knows how to emote properly and stimulate emotions in the audience.  This is where his background in TV/comedy comes in.  He is also aware of Western viewpoints, aggressive URK propaganda in social media and coordinates his messages accordingly.

I saw through him after I watched his 20 minute plea to the American people.

At this rate he will be Time Man of the year.

Besides addressing the US Congress today,  the URK armed forces immediately launched a few trivial counterattacks- and put up the results of Kherson Airport on social media showing burning Russian trucks & helicopters.

The way they are approaching their military messaging is clever and resembles Nazi propaganda in WW2.  Their cities are being bombed, thousands of civilians are dying, they lost a lot of ground, their counterattacks are very weak, Russians with air & artillery superiority, Russians creeping up everyday- but somehow they are winning the war and bleeding the Russian Federation/Soviet Union white! lol

A battery of MLRS being demonstrated.  This is one of the Russians' primary weapons in the Ukraine, every BTG has one (or maybe even 2?).  There is also another MLRS that has bigger rockets.

Every BTG also has 1-2 Self-propelled artillery gun batteries, this one or the even bigger, 152mm weapon

In their combat doctrine, these 2-3 artillery batteries are the "King" of the battlefield.  The tanks and mounted infantry are meant to support their killing power.
