The "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" PIP

I've noticed for a long time that the press, politicians, and political science academia in France & Germany seem to blatantly make disparaging and usually ill-founded comments (conspiracy theories, exaggerations, misinformation, historical revisionism, etc.) directed towards the USA (as a rhetorical tool to advance their own domestic policy positions). The USA has always been the "Big cheese" internationally in public thought... and the cheese that needs to get "knocked down" in rhetoric.

This affects the views of foreign nationals artificially and some get into it..too far.

Another factor that contributes to this is the general US hegemony in entertainment and consumer brands everywhere & military presence. Imagine if Chinese soldiers had bases in America and 2/3rds of entertainment, retail, and consumer goods were all the product of Chinese-directed brands & creative decision making. That's how a lot of Europeans and many Canadians (from what I've seen) feel.

It is interesting though- and is something that US nationals in general aren't used to. I think that most Americans don't have any strong views about the people in European countries because they are usually reported in the press in a dispassionate way or as a mere footnote.
