From Hollywood Reporter, Leo gets his first glimpse of Titanic 3D in Sydney

So now we know why Leo wasn't giving us a new pix from his balcony on Sunday. :p

Asia Gets Its First Look at 'Titanic 3D'

Producer Jon Landau showed 18 minutes of converted footage to the CineAsia industry convention in Hong Kong.

Bringing along an 18-minute showreel of newly-converted footage of the-then highest-grossing film of all-time, and carrying the producing Oscar he won for the 1997 film, Landau was in Hong Kong to wow cinema operators and the media in the region at an event organized by Twentieth Century Fox International at CineAsia. He came from Sydney, where on Sunday he showed a finished portion of Titanic 3D to DiCaprio, who was shooting Australian director Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby there.

Leo who was 20 when he shot the film, was at first very verbal when he saw the 3D version. He kept saying, I don't look like that anymore, but then he became absorbed into the film as if he were seeing it for the first time,Landau recalled

The producer had not had the chance to show female lead Kate Winslet the converted footage yet, but was hopeful that the cast members of the original film would join the promotion of the 3D spectacular for its day-and-date worldwide release on April 6, 2012, which Landau said is being treated as a new tentpole for next spring. The release date was chosen to commemorate the centennial of the sinking -- Titanic sank in the early morning hours of April 15, 1912 -- and the 15th anniversary of the movie.

One of the landmark cross-studio co-productions at the time, the film was co-financed by Paramount and Twentieth Century Fox. Paramount is handling the domestic distribution, while Fox is releasing it internationally. The release date for China is not yet confirmed, but Landau said he was hopeful that the film would come out a bit later in China, where the film grossed 360 million yuan ($56.6 million) when it opened in the country. Titanic reigned as China's all-time box office champion for 11 years, before Cameron topped himself with Avatar.

The 2D to 3D conversion cost the studios $18 million, and the director James Cameron and his effects team 60 weeks. “We’re treating each shot as a special effect shot. Our team and Jim Cameron are looking at it in a frame-by-frame basis as to use to 3D to enhance the storytelling and to enhance the audience experience in the theatre. That’s what we want to do. We want to drive people out of their homes and into the cinema,” Landau said.

The decision to convert the film, which won 11 Academy Awards in 1998, came to Cameron and Landau six years ago, when the partners first looked into the feasibility of 3D filmmaking. The producers believed that all filmmaking should be done in 3D from now on: “the world we live in is in 3D,” and the only way to re-release the film is to do it in 3D.

“Our use of 3D is not to create a world coming out of a window, but to open a window into a world,” Landau said.

“Titanic is a film meant to be seen on the big screen,” he added. “A whole generation of moviegoers had not had the opportunity to see it on the big screen. That’s why we’re bringing Titanic back. Bring the movie to a whole new group of moviegoers. Some of them might not have been born when the movie came out; some of them might even have been conceived the night their parents saw the movie. So we’re very excited to bring the movie back.”

Titanic 3D will be available in digital 3D, IMAX 3D, IMAX 2D, also a remastered version in 2D that Landau promised is better than the original 70mm version in 1997.

ox Thanks alot for news of Leo seeing Titanic 3D!! AWW at him saying he doesn't look like that anymore. I detest when people keep going on about how he doesn't look like jack Dawson anymore like that's such a bad thing.....he's much sexier now to me :)

Barbie, Fash, Kat

I agree he doesn't look like he did in Titanic.

First the article is inaccurate he wasn't 20 when he filmed it in 1996 , he would have been 22 . But at 22 Leo could pass for a 19 year old.

Now he no longer looks like a 19 year boy , he looks like a man all man and hotter than hell :p

Or as I read someone describe him as =walking sex

Tthat definitely reminds me of something I read about Scorpio's sign

Yep! Practically everyone knows the somewhat nefarious Scorpio "reputation."

C'mon... you know... while Scorpios like a good secret (or two)... it's certainly not a secret that Scorpios are known for being sexy, seductive, and sensual lovers.

In fact, it's probably this Scorpio "reputation" that got you to this article on Scorpio and sex!

Many also know that in traditional astrology the Zodiac sign of Scorpio rules the genitals.

And, yep, jokes abound as to how Scorpios are into kinky sadistic/masochistic sex, enjoying wild insatiable sexual escapades that somehow involve the use of whips and chairs...

 :nicole:

Silly thought alert... Hmmm I wonder if we'll get to 700 pages before the New Year :p

Oh and Nanda I miss you terribly!! :(

I miss you too, Fash . Hmm, I was checking out the competition .

I watched Moneyball today. Great movie, cool, exciting. I really liked, even I don't know anything about baseball .

Now I open a parentheses: it's not because the movie is good that Brad deserves a nomination for that. I've seen several other actors doing exactly the same type of role and they were not even reminded. The role played by Brad is so normal... there is no challenge, nothing that makes the character difficult and enigmatic to play. It's so average, nothing special. I liked his performance, he's good. But when we stop to analyze the latest winners:

Russell Crowe

Adrien Brody

Sean Penn

Jamie Foxx

Philip Seymour Hoffman

Forest Whitaker

Daniel Day-Lewis

Jeff Bridges

Colin Firth...

All played characters who had some particular aspect... or they were historical personages or bibliographic characters. Math genius, a musician with alcohol problems, a stutterer king, a political in struggle for gay rights, a pianist in the times of the Holocaust. The history of the Academy makes me feel very confident. What's the differential of Pitt's character? Rebuild a Baseball team? Please, this doesn't deserve an Oscar... I need to watch J. Edgar to compare it to Leo, anyway ;).

If we continue with an average of at least 3 pages per day (on weekends we go over ), we'll get over 700 pages easy, easy, before Christmas ;).

Did you saw that, girls?

J. Edgar

Domestic Total as of Dec. 5, 2011: $32,792,640

Distributor: Warner Bros.

Release Date: November 9, 2011

Genre: Drama

Runtime: 2 hrs. 17 min.

MPAA Rating: R

Production Budget: $35 million

Almost there! That's amazing! And the movie doesn't debut in many other countries. Not bad for a topic called "non-commercial".

I wish this weren't the case..... but as of today i'm REALLY anticipating next week when the SAG, LA Awards, GG noms are announced . Only because it's coming up so soon! I was getting a little worried seeing the noms for the Independent Spirit Awards since leo was not mentioned (Reuters article)... but then I realized it's an award mainly celebrating achievements in Independent films! Phew!

I feel the same way! I am getting soooo excitied to hear these nominations! They can't come any sooner :p But I have to say, I'm a little worried. Like last year, I thought leo was shoe-in for all these awards, and he wasn't nominated for a single one! (although, his inception performance was not being praised by his J.edgar performance) so lets just say I'm not getting my hopes too high for the chance of disapointment :/

Thanks Nanda for the link and the J.Edgar box office. I voted and I'm happy leo beat out timberlake!

I am also curious if that was their first time meeting?

Kat Some reason I doubt that, but who knows maybe! Now you've got me wondering :p

I feel that way too. His circle of friends are models and people in the industry, so chances are they know eachother already or have mutual friends. At least thats what I think

Wow really boring without news or pics! Hopefully next week will be a good week ;)

Nanda Hi  Great analysis of past oscar winners!

Thanks for Eonline link... I voted for leo. That BO number for J. Edgar is quite good for this genre.... plus it has almost caught up to it's budget. Can't complain! (Y)

Kat I know how you feel! I'm also trying to lower my expectations so as to not get too dissapointed if things don't go the way we want. I just hope he doesn't get snubbed by ALL the major awards... but in the back of my mind I still get the feeing he'll be nominated for these major awards :)

Thanks for that vid! Love it

I see you ,also, saw Moneyball/Pitt's performance.

I agree that his character didn't require any transformation for Pitt as he is already a likeable /charming/ father .

Thanks ,also, for J Edgar box office at this point. :) Films don't make back they production costs to make double their box office, so, hopefully once it expands to overseas we will see it's box office grow to $70 million or more

However, when one considers that Frost/Nixon ( which was nominated for every major award as was it's lead actor ) finished it's run with only $27 million worlwide. , it is great news that with out any award nods yet, a film that whose subject matter is considered a 'hard sell' ,has already made $32 million domestically.

Thanks for Celeb voting link.

Kat

Thanks for video; love the feeling his muscles :)

Fash

Let's hope that little man who is talking to you in the back of your mind is on the right track (Y)

Great news about J.Edgar and I'm glad to know the movie has made $32 million in the USA. :) I hope that goes beyond what we expect!

Kat....I loved this video...Leo is always sooo womanizer!haha  He gave her a wink....I would not have slept after that!!

Goin' to rest girls....it's too late here!! :p
