Though the jury is still out on whether this weekend's Cowboys & Aliens will be a financial success for Universal, the movie has decidedly mixed-verging-on-terrible reviews, currently sitting at 44% on Rotten Tomatoes. So why is this the weekend that Universal is apparently trying to get back into the Western business? I guess the name Leonardo DiCaprio goes a long way toward explaining that. The LA Times reports that DiCaprio has started to express interest in The Creed of Violence, an adaptation of Boston Teran's 2010 novel about a criminal attempting to sneak weapons into Mexico who is captured by a government agent instead. The movie technically wouldn't be a Western, being set a little too far into the 20th century, but that didn't really stop anyone from making Western comparisons on There Will Be Blood, now did it?

Oddly enough, In The Bedroom and Little Children director Todd Field has been attached to the project for years, apparently planning what looks like a major shift from the tone of his previous works. It appears Field is the one who has offered DiCaprio one of the two lead roles, either the bad guy or the government agent. It's also unclear when they plan to move forward with the film given DiCaprio's commitment to Quentin Tarantino's next film Django Unchained, in addition to recent talk that Paul Greengrass might soon come aboard The Deep Blue Good-By, a detective film that DiCaprio is attached to. The guy is pretty much constantly in demand, and it's kind of a wonder he manages to work out his schedule at all.

The entire premise sounds far more like a traditional Western than Cowboys & Aliens, of course, and more along the lines of smaller dramas like 3:10 to Yuma, which did pretty well for Lionsgate in 2007. DiCaprio has done his share of period movies, but no Westerns, which makes this idea all the more intriguing. I'm an apologist for his work in general, but this movie in particular sounds like something worth catching.

Hot couple Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively had a romantic Thursday. First, the pair canoodled over a decadent breakfast at Chelsea restaurant Cafeteria. Sources said they ordered two plates of lemon ricotta pancakes and huevos rancheros to share. "They were there for about an hour and were secluded in a cozy corner together," said our spy. They were also "very friendly with the staff," and DiCaprio even complimented one of the managers on his tattoos. Later, DiCaprio and Lively took in "Fuerza Bruta" at the Daryl Roth Theatre, where they both went incognito in hats and sat in the back. "They were really into one another, holding hands and hugging," said a spy. After the show, theater staff escorted the lovebirds to a car outside, where a crowd of girls waited to glimpse DiCaprio. Lively is shuttling between New York, where she's filming "Gossip Girl," and LA, where she's making Oliver Stone's "Savages."

A western with Leonardo DiCaprio?

EXCLUSIVE: Westerns are continuing to have their moment in Hollywood, with this weekend's "Cowboys & Aliens" looking to pick up where last winter's breakout "True Grit" left off.

Now another project is gathering heat. "The Creed of Violence, a western-flavored script based on the 2010 novel from cult author Boston Teran, has attracted the attention of Leonardo DiCaprio, who's eager to play one of the lead roles, according to a person who was briefed on the actor's plans but could not talk about it publicly because he was not authorized to speak for DiCaprio.

The movie has been in development with "In the Bedroom" director Todd Field for several years; like "Cowboys & Aliens," the film is set up at Universal. A studio spokeswoman did not immediately have a comment on DiCaprio's interest. A DiCaprio spokesman did not immediately reply to a request seeking comment.

"Creed" tells the 1910-era story of a criminal named Rawbone who tries to take a cache of weapons into Mexico as part of the country's revolution but is caught and then accompanied by a government agent who, it turns out, shares a secret past with him.

DiCaprio could play either of the two characters, said the source. If he plays the government agent, it would continue a recent pattern of law-enforcement roles in movies ranging from "Shutter Island" to the upcoming historical biopic "Hoover." If he plays the bad guy, it could mark the second time he's going back to a harsh period of American history to do so: He looks to come aboard as the villain in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained."

if they do that movie,I' love to see Leo as a criminal named Rawbone :cain:

it will be good for him to play bad boy + I really wanna see him in such role

Personnally I don't belive the positiive or the negatives articles about leo romance just because there are no many pictures about them and also because their relation is new. Moreover I can't belive to thiese stories just because everydy know that blake staff try to show a good image of her to the public in order to develop her career in the cinema.

I think that leo is not ready to stell down and have children because he stayed 5 years with gisele and 6 years with bar and he was not ready to marry or have children. So I will sure that their relation is serious when I will see leo affectionate with her on public, when he go with her on the red carpet ( for exemple for the oscar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) like he did with gisele and also when I will see Irmelin with blake like because we have already see Irmelin pictures with gisele and bar.

I appreciate leo carreer but I would like to see him with children and familly and it's sad to say that we have to wait for that during along moment.

Leondaro DiCaprio Believes In THE CREED OF VIOLENCE?

Matt Holmes

We haven’t seen anything from three time Oscar nominated writer/director Todd Field since his cynical suburban drama Little Children five years ago but as much trouble as he’s had finding financial backing for his non-mainstream follow-ups (an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian couldn’t get pick up steam, despite the backing of The Social Network producer supreme Scott Rudin), all his studio figthing and frustrations may soon be over. Maybe.

You see once a Hollywood A-lister at the top of his game like Leonardo DiCaprio gets interested in one of your projects, well things change dramatically in the minds of studio execs and they will suddenly start saying yes to what they previously said no too. Where once you couldn’t get hold of them for days only to eventually hear ‘Well, maybe we’ll do it but not right now”, they suddenly situp and get eager.

The L.A. Times reports that DiCaprio has told Universal he is interested in starring in Field’s long-gestating Western project The Creed of Violence, an adaptation of Boston Teran’s 2010 novel about the American intervention in the 1910 Mexican Revolutionary war and this week the studio made a formal offer for him to star in the film.

“Creed” tells the 1910-era story of a criminal named Rawbone who tries to take a cache of weapons into Mexico as part of the country’s revolution but is caught and then accompanied by a government agent who, it turns out, shares a secret past with him.

Field first pitched the project to Universal three years ago before Teran’s novel was even published and it’s unclear whether he is still working on the picture but at least according to IMDB he remains attached, with a projected 2012 release… not that I would put a great deal of credence in that.

Curiously, Field has been taking some photographs out in Durango and Veracruz in Mexico. Was he sight-seeing, fulfilling a hobby or was this part of his pre-production?

How the screenplay for such a dead-in-the-water project found DiCaprio, let alone gaged his interest is anyone’s guess, as is the knowledge of which of the two leading roles he fancies – though he is playing one of his first villain roles in Quentin Tarantino’s forthcoming Django Unchained, so maybe he’s done with law enforcement now and is turning to the dark side of his career!!

Of course lots of hurdles to jump on this one as last we heard Todd Field was interesting in the heist picture Hubris and was trying to get that in development amidst Michael Mann having the same idea for a film, whilst DiCaprio flirts with a new project every other week and is a difficult man to clamp down.

But as a big fan of Westerns, it’s great news to hear that recently gun-shy Universal (of course thanks to Leo) are bringing them back to the screen. They happen to have released Cowboys & Aliens today in the U.S…

Thanks winter for all articles. I don't know if the movie (western) going to happen... but, as always, it would be interesting to see Leo play this kind of character.

Hmm? A western? Interesting.

Have we got any like 100% proof if he's going to do the Tarantino movie? I WANT THAT! :) Lol.

Yeah I'm pretty sure its a done deal. Jamie talked about how hes excited about working with Leo on it, and Tarontino tweeted about Leo joining the cast as the character. So I'm pretty sure thats going to happen.

about this whole new western thing I don't know. Hes been rumored "circling" so many projects that don't happen. So I'll believe this project when we get some more info.

Also anyone know anything about Wolf Of Wall street? I think thats his next project after Django, because Scorsese was busy filming some other things for a while, so he can't film Wolf until next year. Unless their looking for a different director <_< But Leo was in a youtube video for Red Granite (Wolfs production company) where he talks about this character hes going to play, now the question is, when will Leo start filming! ;)

A question for everyone re : Leo hotel New York tweets that Nanda posted ???

In regard to recent tweet about tweeter staying in same hotel as Leo .

We know both Leo and Blake both have places in New York, so it seems odd that he would stay in hotel .

But do you think when he is there for work or just visiting with Blake, he stays in hotel ?

As we saw him coming in and out of hotels last time he was there with Blake.

Or do you think maybe he was in hotel doing press interviews for J Edgar, and the girl just thinks he was staying there ?

Nanda

Thaks for recent NY hotel tweets:)

Thanks ,also, for "Violence of Creed" article .

I guess , just like with "Wolf of Wall Street or "The Devil in White City" , we'll have to see if this project ever comes to be, but , for now

I like the sound of it

Halo

Your avatar is adorable :)

Thanks for tweet ; I'd like to be talking with them .

Also, thanks, for photo of Pink Taco restaurant where the duo had lunch.

Wijn

Thanks for tumblrs and what a cute photo of "The Kid" :)

Winterbone

Thanks for all the "Creed" articles . I like the idea of DeNiro as one of the characters

Also, thanks, for NY post sightings of Leo and Blake. It sounds like they are having lots of fun in the Big Apple

Sic

Regarding your comment below I think Leo is quite adept at being a bad boy :sex:

it will be good for him to play bad boy + I really wanna see him in such role

Got the PM Oxford! :) And I'm pretty sure Leo is still staring in Wolf Of Wall street, Jordan even said himself how its a done deal and hes very excited Leos playing him, and Leo talked about how hes playing Jordan in a Youtube vid, Plus he went to the Red Granite Party in Cannes right after they announced their taking on The Wolf Of Wall street, So I think there either trying to find the right director for the film or waiting for Scorsese to get done filming his current project. So I think "Wolf" Is Leos project in 2012 ;)

From E...I agree with 'very pretty couple :)

We're happy to report that Leonardo DiCaprio and Blake Lively continue to prove the celeb tabloids wrong.

The very pretty couple is still very much together.

Why, just the other day...

The two lunched at Pink Taco in Santa Monica. "They came in through the back door," a source reports.

Casually dressed (DiCaprio wore his signature baseball cap, Lively donned a straw number), the couple sat in a booth in the back.

The Gossip Girl beauty likes extra sour cream with her tacos. A Hollywood gal who actually eats? Love
