Leonardo DiCaprio – ‘Untitled Paul Thomas Anderson Film’

Likely to carry the title “One Battle After Another,” the still-not-officially-titled movie from Paul Thomas Anderson already has the town buzzing.

With Leonardo DiCaprio and PTA teaming up for the first time and plot details remaining under wraps, the pairing of the Oscar-winning star of “The Revenant” and “The Departed” with the mind behind “There Will Be Blood” and “Licorice Pizza” promises something bold and unforgettable. With Anderson’s signature storytelling and DiCaprio’s track record of awards-caliber performances and already buzzy roles from Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor, and Regina Hall, expect a cerebral, gripping film that will dominate the conversation.

Another new project:

‘Home’: Martin Scorsese & Leonardo DiCaprio Reuniting For Marilynne Robinson Adaptation At Apple

Veteran filmmaker Martin Scorsese has been mulling over a bunch of potential next movie projects since finishing up “Killers of The Flower Moon” (things like “The Wager,” “The Devil In The White City,” a Frank Sinatra biopic, “The Life of Jesus,” and a Hawaii-set crime drama), and the latest one, “Home,” is set to see him reunite with his modern muse, Oscar-winner Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”).

What looks like an official press release from Apple via Publishers Weekly, an announcement has been made that sees Scorsese set to direct, write, and produce an adaptation of the Marilynne Robison novel “Home” with the help of fellow director Todd Field and work on bringing the Gilead series to life. DiCaprio is also mentioned as the film’s lead, making this his seventh collaboration with Scorsese after films such as “Killers of The Flower Moon,” “The Departed,” “Gangs of New York,” “Shutter Island,” “The Aviator,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

“Home” is part of Robinson’s Gilead series examining a bunch of elements such as faith and rural life set in the fictional plains town of Gilead, Iowa.

The novel’s original logline via Chapters Indigo reads:

Glory Boughton has returned to Gilead to care for her dying father. soon her brother, Jack—the prodigal son of the family, gone for twenty years—comes home too, looking for refuge and trying to make peace with a past littered with torment and pain. A troubled boy from childhood, an alcoholic who cannot hold a job, Jack is one of the great characters in recent literature. He is perpetually at odds with his surroundings and with his traditionalist father, though he remains Reverend Boughton’s most beloved child. Brilliant, beguiling, lovable, and wayward, Jack forges an intense new bond with Glory and engages painfully with John Ames, his godfather, and namesake.

Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions and DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions will be producing the pic that is officially set at Apple Original Films, where the director had just made “Killers of The Flower Moon.”

A production start or release date hasn’t been made official, given the deal seemingly was just finalized with Apple, but we’re sure those details will be revealed down the line.

Actually I couldn't care less about a bunch of random opinions but I know this isn't how Hollywood works especially not with a budget like this. Personally I love weird besides the boxes.

PTA’s ‘One Battle After Another’ Polarizes in Vegas

No, I haven’t forgotten that Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle after Another” test screened in Vegas on Tuesday. I’ve gotten plenty of emails asking how the screening went.

Honestly, I was just waiting for more reactions to come in since what I’ve been hearing so far are clear signs of a polarizing film. Good luck to Warner Bros in marketing this one. One attendee emailed me saying, “indescribable film. Messy, but purposely so?”

I spoke to a handful of attendees and the reactions coming out of the Vegas screening have been wildly all over the place. I spoke to another attendee, disappointed by the film, who overheard the person seated next to them muttering after the end credits, “what the hell was that?” Whether that was meant as complimentary to the film is not known.

A big ‘ol WTF kind of film is music to my ears, but not the type of reaction you want to hear as a studio head who just invested $140M into this project — here’s looking at you Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca. What do to to with this film which PTA had pitched to Warners his “most commercial” outing, and one filled with “the biggest stunts“ of his career.

I wouldn’t even look at the Letterboxd ratings, which have never been much of an indication of anything, even if there are some worrisome scores on there coming in from the Vegas screening. I remember very well when “Phantom Thread” test reactions were mixed, and the film turned out to be an acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film.

Much like last month’s reactions, an attendee compared the film to Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild.” PTA attempts to blend numerous genres in the film — comedy, action, thriller, romance, horror— and it’s a “high-wire act” that left some of the crowd scratching their heads at what they had just witnessed.

Of note, PTA was in attendance, and so were a handful of Warner Bros PR people. Given that the film is getting regularly test screened, and I’m hearing of another one already set up for next month, I imagine they’re still trying to figure out how to market this one.

We’re also wondering if that August 8 release date will change, if it doesn’t then the smartest thing to do would be to debut the film at Cannes where critics will no doubt greet PTA with open arms. Otherwise, this one could also premiere at the Venice Film Festival and come out in late fall. Another least likely scenario, but one Puck’s Matt Belloni recently reported, is that the film gets “punted” to 2026.

I hope it won't be pushed to 2026... WTF :rolingpin:

It doesn't make sense, if the movie is weird now it's still going to be weird in 2026, lol. Just release this year damn it!

I heard Warner Bros. is going through some big mess. I hope it doesn't get in the way of his movie release.

So nice to finally hear about all of Leo’s upcoming projects.

He always makes good decisions but if I had to rank which projects I’m looking forward to from most to least it would look like this:

1: One Battle after Another

Just really looking forward to his first colab with PTA. A long time coming. The plot details we have so far (that seem super gonzo) and the polarising reviews are just making me more excited! Hopefully this will quieten down everyone who says Leo doesn’t take enough risks.

2: Home

As discussed on this msg board before, I’d really love him to pick something more intimate and this feels like the perfect character study for that. He was so great in Revolutionary Road. I picture this being of similar scale.

3:Evil Kinevil

Whilst I’m a bit bio picked out (as Leo once said) I think this character study could offer a lot more that the traditional rise and fall musical biopic. As much as I love Marty it’s always nice to see him trying out new relationships. Different directors seem to bring out different performance styles from him.

4. The wager

This feels dead in the water now (pardon the pun)

but could have been great! I just imagined the cast ensemble being next level.

5. Sinatra and New The Rock/ Emily blunt project’s

Im sure this just says more about me and my personal taste but these just aren’t getting me as excited yet.

I’d love to hear everyone else’s thoughts too?

I would love to see #2 in your list but I've given up on that one already. It's been too long.

1. One Battle After Another: I'm excited for this. Looks like it's going to be something completely different.

2. Home: I love the idea of a small film about family. Maybe Kate Winslet as his sister?

3. Sinatra: I like the music and time.

4. Hawaiian gangster film: The Departed set in Hawaii sounds great to me.

5. The Wager: Leo on a sinking ship again? Why not 😆

6. Evel Knievel: A new director is exciting, could be cool.

7. The Devil In The White City: Leo playing a killer sounds intriguing. But I also have little hope this will get made.

Hopefully we’ll get a sneak peak of OBAA or a trailer even. Wonder if Leo shows up? I think he went with Tarantino for OUATIH if I remember correctly. He looked so good that day!

I hope he attends and hope we get some news about the movie, a teaser maybe?
