Interesting statistics wijn. I didn't know Leo only earned 2 thousand dollars for J.Edgar :o I knew he took a pay cut, but I didn't think it was this much!

Also a little OT, But here is the pics of Lukas shoot for Erins friend handbag line. Lukas looks quite really handsome!

http://donatiennehandbags.com/#lookbook

Actually, it's more like Erin met her through Leo cuz the woman behind donatienne is married to Chuck Pacheco who's been seen with Leo and his friends at Laker games, Vegas, etc. I love the handbags - thnaks Katch!

Kat, he earned 2 million for Edgar..... he took a 90% paycut (according to what got released to the press) :)

Though a big paycut nonetheless :p

ox I was wondering about Blizz haha... that would be so cute if that was the same lizard  But hey, if it could survive being run over by a vehicle it can survive anything

Thanks everyone for all the news :)

thanks for the article wijn, it's interesting how he jumped from 2,5 million for Titanic to 20 million for The Beach, what a movie can make on a career, not? :o

whhooppps I meant 2 million :p But still like you said, thats not a bad pay ;) Also looking on Leos inception pay.....He wouldn't have to make another movie in his life! I think that was one of the highest paycheck for a movie in movie history!

Ohhh Solange: I didn't even know! I thought they were friends for a while, but either way :p And yes, her handbags are gorgeous!

Vanity Fair Toasts Martin Scorsese, Discovers That He Once Spied on Leonardo DiCaprio

Just off the Hotel Bel Air’s famed Swan Lake, Vanity Fair and Richard Mille toasted director Martin Scorsese Friday night in anticipation of the 84th Academy Awards, where the filmmaker is up for best director—and where his whimsical 3-D feature Hugo has 11 total nominations, the most of any film in 2012. But the party was about Scorsese’s entire, remarkable career, not just his success this year, and a crush of his friends, admirers, and actors from his films past turned out to fête him. As hosts Graydon and Anna Carter greeted guests, Scorsese held court for attendees like Fran Lebowitz, this year's Oscar nominees Demián Bichir and Jessica Chastain, Sir Ben Kingsley, Rick Rubin (wearing the full Rick Rubin beard), Oscar-winning composer Howard Shore, and Hollywood dynasty descendant Danny Huston. Ray Liotta, Lorraine Bracco and Kevin Corrigan engaged in a bar-side Goodfellas reunion, and Bill Courtney, the coach and star in Oscar-nominated documentary, Undefeated, charmed us by revealing that he isn't that impressed by the week's Oscars festivities, considering he has to “get back to a lumber company.”

Of all the Martin Scorsese memories (and lumber-company anecdotes) recalled over the course of the evening, this one, relayed to your Hollywood blogger by Corrigan–who acted for the director in Goodfellas and The Departed–perfectly encapsulates the director's fastidiousness, impeccable sense of timing, and ability to capture an audience:

“On the set of The Departed, Leonardo DiCaprio and I were talking about how I had grown up in the Bronx. Leonardo's grandmother moved from Germany to the South Bronx during the war, and raised her daughter there. He said that his grandmother, Leslie, had driven him around in the South Bronx, pointing out where she used to live. I asked if he knew which street, because maybe our parents knew each other. I mentioned Brook Avenue, it turns out his grandmother lived there, too. We were going on and on, talking about the neighborhood, but there was one church in the neighborhood that we couldn't remember the name of. It was a famous church. Was it St. Luke's? We went back and forth for awhile and then suddenly, we hear, [in a fast-talking Scorsese voice], ‘It was St. Ann's! All of the relics are buried underneath there! That's why it's famous! Gouverneur Morris is buried underneath there, too!”

We forget that we were mic'd—Marty had been following the entire conversation on his headphones from the video village, where they have all the monitors on a movie set. [He] realized that we were stumped, so he stopped what he was doing, and walked across this big hallway all the way over to us. He held court with me and Leonardo for about 20 minutes, telling us about this church's history, all with his script sticking out of his pants. That's how it is with Marty when you talk about music, too. He'll go on and on like that. Finally, the first A.D. came over and told him that we were ready to shoot the scene. And he left, saying, 'Okay, well we'll continue this conversation later.‘”

“Sorry, that was really long,“ Corrigan laughed to us after finishing his yarn. “It's hard to tell a Marty story without starting to sound like him a little bit yourself.“

Thanks for Leo statistics link :)

Regarding Leo's salary , I'll pass along some information I learned from my Oscar blogger buddy.

Like most people I always just focused on the reported salary, and he told me that was often misleading. As actors with power normally work out a back end , or if they have a lot of pull, a 'front loaded' deal

In a 'back end' deal they take less upfront with a percentage of profits at the end . However if there is no 'profit' then there are no additional gains at end. Also, he told me that years ago that there were complaints by some actors/even lawsuits that claimed that the studio accountants 'cooked' the books to make it appear there were no profits just to shaft the actors.

Supposedly from everything I've read Leo had a back end deal with Titanic. And even though he didn't have a large upfront salary for the film, with the films great financial success. he pocketed $50 million from his back end deal.

With the film "Inception" Leo has enough 'power cache' to get a front loaded deal which meant he got a percentage of the revenue before all the assorted expenses were sorted out . He received a percentage of the box office take upfront before the final expenses were tallied to dertermine how much was profit.

He ,also, told me that sometimes actors take less on one deal and are compensated for it in another area. For example, he said if you notice most of Leo's Appian Way productions are back by Warner Bros studio. Therefore it could be that Leo asks for less on a film deal and is compensated via a production deal.

I just know that my bank account would appreciate any extra money that Leo doesn't need :p

Kat

Thanks for Marty /Leo article; very interesting read :)

Is Leslie than Oma's name first name ?

Daydreaming

I noticed that Celebrity Gossip had pix/article from the Vanity Fair/Scorsese tribute but they didn't mention Leo being in attendance. I did notice , however, that Patricia Clarkson from SI was in one of the pictures .

Tks for this great explanation Oxford! :)

In the end everything has to do with the profits.
