Yes, while it was a nice change of pace to see someone win besides George, even though I personally didn't feel George' performance was better than Leo's, I do feel George gave a more award worthy performance than Dujardin's .

As to pix, we know the Australian press/paps will know he has returned for filming , so they will be looking for him . I'm hoping to get some new pix from the filming on Monday

First of all, I'm very happy that he skipped the Sags.

I know it would have been great to have pictures of him on the red carpet, but I'm thinking about the show itself. Can you imagine seeing him again losing against overrated George, and having to listen another kiss ass speech from him, Live and direct. I mean It's hard for me and I only listen him on Tv.

Actually The return to Sydney was scheduled a long time ago. I think was Oxf who posted the article that said they started filming again in January 30, and we know he will not win, so this perfectly understandable that he doesn't attend. The only thing that is bugging me, is why they don't announced before. You kown.. Just to prevent the malicious comments of some people that could say, he will not attend because he's resents.

I reposted below the article that appeared when Gatsby filming ended right before Christmas , and as you can see they didn't give an exact return date .

However, we do know from the Joel Edgerton/Sundane interview clip I posted, that Joel would not have been available for filming the week after the Globes.

As it is just not a matter of having Leo there, but you need a time frame where all of the cast and crew can be back together, and this coming week may have been the only one that worked.

Also, we know at some time in Feb, Leo should start Django filming.

As to timing of news from his agent, I personally, think his agent only contacted the press, so people would know why he wasn't there, as I remember the press asking why Ryan wasn't at Globes , and they wanted to avoid that .At the Gobles the press was clueless that Ryan was filming a movie in Thailand . And we know at times in Nov and Dec the press seemed clueless that Leo wasn't in the States due to filming in Sydney.

Lights, camera, ouch: Luhrmann accident halts Gatsby filming

Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann is nursing a sore head after a mishap on the set of his latest movie, The Great Gatsby.

The director required three stitches to his head after bumping into a camera crane.

Luhrmann, the maker of hit movies Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge and Australia, was directing a scene at the time.

His injury forced an early end to the Sydney filming of The Great Gatsby, which has an international cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan.

A co-producer, Anton Monsted, said: ''We were on quite a cramped set and he was ducking under the crane. He struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head and we had to get the doctor.''

Monsted said the producers decided to stop filming and allow the cast and crew to get home for Christmas a day earlier than planned.

They will return for additional shots in the new year.

''There's a few days owing due to rain and then there will also be what we would have shot … had we continued filming after Baz's injury,'' Monsted said.

The adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous novel, set in New York in the 1920s, has been shot at Fox Studios and locations around Sydney, including the International College of Management, formerly St Patrick's College, at Manly, for 83 days.

Despite Luhrmann's injury, Monsted said the crew finished the year on ''a big high''. ''Filming has gone extremely well. The only obstacle we've really faced has been bad weather.''

Rain particularly affected scenes due to be shot on a property at Mount Wilson in the Blue Mountains that was doubling for Long Island.

''Where we were filming was on heritage-protected land and we were very mindful to leave these beautiful properties as we found them,'' Monsted said.

I realized just now that I meant to post this when I checked the board, and then when I saw the news that Leo wouldn't be at SAGS , it threw me off

On E last night they had a small segment about the SAGS in which they said that Best Actress nominee Viola Davis was going to be tweeting pix and comments from attendees.

They then showed Viola , and she said that the first picture she wanted to take was with Leo, so I was going to say we could be looking forward to her twitter pix , but we know that won't be happening now

THE first leg of this year's AACTAs (formerly known as the Australian Film Institute or AFIs) kicked off at Sydney's Westin Hotel yesterday with a swag of technical film and television awards handed out at a luncheon hosted by Sigrid Thornton.

And while there were few celebrity powerhouses in the ballroom, talk was rife that organisers are trying to lure some big names to the January 31 awards ceremony at the Opera House.

It's understood Leonardo DiCaprio - due back in Sydney later this month for a handful of re-shoots for The Great Gatsby - is at the top of their wishlist

Yesterday's event was attended by a mix of film and TV talent including a newly trim Rebecca Gibney who is set to appear in her first feature film, PJ Hogan's Mental, for which she gained (and later lost) about 20kg. Her former Packed To The Rafters co-star Jessica McNamee was also on hand and dodged a mini-disaster when her handbag went missing.

"I handed it to someone while I was walking the red carpet and later we couldn't find it," she said.

"But finally it turned up. I haven't counted my money yet but I'm sure it's all there."

Jack Thompson too walked the red carpet and mused about which of his performances he thought deserved an Oscar.

I had a feeling you were thinking of the AACTA Awards for which Leo was nominated that I posted that stated the awards would be televisted Jan 31st.

As it is we now know the awards are given ahead of time and the video portion isn't shown to Jan 31st.

However , since you do such a great job of finding information/tweets,etc, I figured there might well have been another article stating the Jan 30th date, it just wasn't posted by me .

SAG Awards Predictions: Who Will Win the Movie Categories on Sunday?

Clooney, DiCaprio, Streep, Close, Davis, McCarthy... there are a lot of big names, veterans and newcomers on the list of SAG Award nominees this year in the movie categories. But who will take home the statues on Sunday? Here are our predictions for the Screen Actor's Guild winners for movies:

Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role

The Nominees: George Clooney, Jean DuJardin, Demian Bechir, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt

The Likely Winner: George Clooney. "The Descendants" may have been his best project yet acting-wise, and that's saying something. Plus, when a guy goes and does this and "The Ides of March" in one year, he's bound to win something.

The Hopeful: Jean DuJardin. "The Artist" has made some serious strides since arriving on the awards scene, and could have gained some late momentum following its 10 Oscar nominations and a Golden Globes win for DuJardin.

The Long Shot: Leonardo DiCaprio. The guy has a lot of respect among his peers, but "J. Edgar" wasn't the greatest movie and DiCaprio didn't even get an Oscar nod.

Outstanding Actress in a Leading Role

The Nominees: Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams, Tilda Swinton

The Likely Winner: This is a tough one, as Streep was separated from Davis and Williams in the categories at the Golden Globes. Williams and Streep took the statues there, but "The Help" has been campaigning hard among SAG voters and might get Davis the statue. When in doubt, go with Streep... but don't be surprised if it's Davis.

The Hopeful: Michelle Williams did give a really stunning performance in "My Week with Marilyn," so it wouldn't be shocking if her take on the iconic actress resonated more with SAG voters than Streep's Margaret Thatcher.

The Long Shot: Tilda Swinton. Again, snubbed for the Oscars, but another fantastic perfomance from one of the business' more consistently excellent actresses.

Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role

The Nominees: Kenneth Branagh, Armie Hammer, Jonah Hill, Nick Nolte, Christopher Plummer

The Likely Winner: Christopher Plummer. Bet the farm.

The Hopeful: Jonah Hill gave a surprisingly strong performance in "Moneyball." If you watch it, it seems simple, but that's what makes it so good. It's detailed, thoughtful, and wholly believable. And he still manages to be funny, too.

The Long Shot: Nick Nolte. He was truly stunning in "Warrior," but unfortunatley nobody really saw "Warrior," and there wasn't much of an effort to campaign for Nolte.

Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role

The Nominees: Berenice Bejo, Jessica Chastain, Melissa McCarthy, Janet McTeer, Octavia Spencer

The Likely Winner: Another very tough one. Spencer took it at the Globes, but you can't count out how funny McCarthy was in "Bridesmaids" and how hot she is right now in the industry. Spencer might also lose some votes to Chastain, as they are both nominated for "The Help." The safer choice is Spencer.

The Hopeful: Melissa McCarthy is waiting in the wings to grab that trophy if Chastain does eat some of Spencer's votes, though.

The Long Shot: Janet McTeer is on another planet as far as voters are concerned. Bejo could have a bit of a chance with the recent "The Artist" surge, but it'd still be a huge long shot.

Outstanding Performance by a Cast

The Nominees: "The Help," "The Artist," "The Descendants," "Bridesmaids," "Midnight in Paris"

The Likely Winner: "The Help" has been campaigning hard, and has three nominees in the individual categories... more than any other movie on the list. It's pretty much the definition of "ensemble movie."

The Hopeful: "The Artist" has been making a push, and the temptation to give something to the charming Jean DuJardin will be great. "The Descendants" is also a possibility, as even the smaller players (like the hilarious and heartbreaking Judy Greer) were terrific.

The Long Shot: "Midnight in Paris" didn't get anyone nominated in the individual categories, despite some really great performances. But the ensemble was more like Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams plus a series of fun cameos, so the chances aren't great here.

As to AACTA Awards, it seems like since they couldn't get any of the big US stars to go to Sydney for the event last night, they set up something at Soho House in L.A. where they presented the awards to the celebs gathered there. There were pix online of Nicole handing Meryl her award at L.A/Soho House.
