“I prefer men’s watches and love boxing”, Adriana Lima

Adriana-Lima-702x1024.thumb.jpg.4d14e7369f39cdb1b62f6475d090d8fb.jpg

What does it take to be a perfect brand ambassador?

I connect with a brand even before I start working with them. I am happy to be chosen by IWC as their brand ambassador. There are so many unbelievable personalities who have been their brand ambassadors including some great actors. For me, as a model, to be standing next to them, it’s an honour. I’m a big fan of their watches. These watches have something, like jewellery which can transcend generations. They are like a family with deep sentimental values. I appreciate all the designs of IWC. They are different. The Da Vinci watch is so elegant and it’s something for life! It’s just so pure and beautiful.

Which is your favourite IWC watch?

Almost all. But there is a special one from the Pilot collection that I have my eyes on for the past few years. It’s the Father & the Son watch. I have both. I know these are men’s watches. As you know I have two girls and we’re going to share watches with them one day, when they grow up. I would love to have a son and one day, and I will share this with him.

Do you like to wear the men’s models or the women’s models of IWC watches?

I prefer men’s models because they connect with my personality. I’m a very strong woman. I do boxing, which tells a little bit about my personality. I like bigger watches for they make a statement.

What do you love about modelling?

I love my job. I don’t do it, you know, for success or just to be out there.  I do it because it’s a form of art.  It’s similar to acting and I love it. I get to work with amazing brands like IWC, travel the world and meet unbelievable people. I think I’m really blessed.

How many days in a week are you flying?

Honestly, I don’t count but I have children so I try to be at home as much as I can.

Runway or shoot-  what is more satisfying?

I like to do anything with video cameras. That’s the most satisfying thing for me.

How do you choose a brand to endorse?

They choose me rather. I am lucky to be in a position where I can work for people that I connect with. I like to endorse brands which have products I believe in. I work with brands that have strong real values and offer a great image for both men and women.

What does time mean for you?

I’m going to answer you with a quote I’m fond of: “Time is the most valuable thing you can give to someone.”

Let me ask you some rapid-fire questions:

Your favourite movie? – It’s a Wonderful Life

Favourite restaurant? – My home

Favourite actor? – John Malkovich

Favourite footballer? – Pele

Favourite colour? – Black

Favourite cuisine? – Brazilian

What’s your fitness regime? How do you keep yourself fit?

I love boxing.  It’s a passion since I was a 19-years-old kid. I want longevity in life and try to be fit.

How do you stay motivated being on top for over a decade of doing something in such a competitive world?

It’s called love. I love what I do. I love my job.

Do you think celebrities should make statements on social and political issues or just stick to their art?

My grandmother once told me something which I never forget: “Never discuss religion, football, and politics in public”. Everyone has his or her own points of view. Some will agree, some won’t agree. I try to focus on women’s issues and believe in making them stronger.

How the Victoria’s Secret Angels Are Celebrating Valentine’s Day

Adriana Lima

“Most people celebrate with their significant other, but for me, it is also all about celebrating with my girls. I think it is really important to buy a little gift for everyone in your life. I send flowers to my mom and give little gifts to all of my friends so that everyone has a valentine! For me, Valentine’s Day is about love and celebrating that love. It’s not just a couple’s thing! The best gifts I receive on Valentine's Day are from my two mini Angels. They treat me to yummy chocolates or decorated cookies and handmade cards. They’re so cute!”

This is how Valentine's Day should be celebrated imo, as a day for all the aspects of love, not only the romantic one. And she really does this, it's not just a tought she had for this interview, I remember her saying the same things in a VS video from 2011.

VS is doing a poll on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform, to decide wich Angel the fans want to see more at the store opening event in China. The choices are Adriana, Alessandra, Jasmine, Romee and Martha, but you must have an account to vote.

http://vote.weibo.com/poll/137701406

I haven't an account there but a friend on tumblr does and she showed me how the voting is going, and Adriana is leading by far with a 52.9 %, Alessandra has 34.2%, Martha 7.9%, Romee 3.1% and Jasmine 1.9%. Since Adriana is the most famous and has the biggest fanbase it's pretty obvious she will win the poll, let's hope then they send her to the opening ceremony.

I hope so too. :D I would sign up just to vote, but I have no idea how...

5 MINUTES

with Adriana Lima

As the face of Maybelline and the longest serving Victoria’s Secret Angel, Adriana Lima is one of the supermodels of the moment. So, we were very excited when we got the chance to sit down with the Brazilian beauty (yup she’s as stunning in real life) and quiz her on her skincare secrets, guilty pleasures and her interesting hobby…

Interview by Verity Clark

safe_image.png.50c9d66d4e1212851d92f9fa1c4d0cbb.pngAdriana_GTL_Thumb_1487666784.thumb.jpg.269b2158ad58a3055fd83bf3cb8baf56.jpgadrgt.thumb.jpg.3c9eb382872b92c8426e2d4e97196439.jpg58ae107523e5d_safe_image(1).png.7dfb30acbeddd7365c433a323f7bff80.png

My skincare secrets…

It’s very important to keep my skin hydrated at all times especially because I travel so much. I always carry natural oils like argan and coconut oil and when I’m on planes I spritz my face with rose water. I also drink A LOT of water and coconut water.

My signature makeup look…

Either smoky eyes and a natural lip, or red lipstick – that’s my trademark.

My go-to hairstyle…

Natural. I have wavy hair, I like it to look like just woke up – a little messy with texture. I use coconut oil on my hair, it’s pretty dry so the coconut oil absorbs super quickly.

My top 3 makeup products…

Definitely Maybelline Falsies mascara – I love the brush it’s so easy to apply and it gets into every single lash and really opens your eyes. For my lips I like the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Mattes, in a red obviously! I like foundation but daily I prefer something more natural and easy to apply so I like to use a BB cream because I can just apply it like a moisturiser.

My workout regime…

I try to exercise as much as I can – it’s something that’s part of my routine. I do boxing – it’s a passion of mine and I try to workout 5 days a week. Even when I travel I try to run or do squats, it doesn’t have to be 45 minutes just 10 mins is good enough.

My diet…

I’m a healthy eater. I have two daughters and I want longevity in my life, you are what you eat so I’m really careful and I like to have a balanced diet of protein and vegetables. I love to cook Brazilian food with my girls, things like rice and beans and I can make a great chicken or beef goulash!

My guilty pleasure…

I’m obsessed with molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream – I love it! I could have it every day, 3 times a day!

The highlight of my career…

When I opened the Victoria’s Secret fashion show for the first time it was the moment that I never thought I’d get, I never thought I’d actually open the show – it was a dream.

My favourite thing about London...

Everything! The accent, the streets are so beautiful, the architecture, Buckingham Palace, the Queen...

My drink of choice…

Caipirinhas!

The best thing about being a model...

I love my job, you get to travel and see different cultures and meet so many interesting people, from artists to politicians and work with the best photographers in the world.

In my time off

I like to spend time with my children.

If I wasn’t a model…

I would be an actress. I plan to do some acting in the future – watch this space

You wouldn’t know it but…

One thing that I love is archery. I was travelling and I went to an all women retreat where they had lots of different activities. One of them was archery; I was training with this lady and she was one of the USA champions and she was surprised how good I was. It’s so relaxing for me – I wish I could do it more often.

My dream holiday destination

Maldives – I haven’t been yet. Or Japan.

Fallen angels? Victoria’s Secret sales plunge

PARIS, FRANCE - NOVEMBER 30: Adriana Lima, Elsa Hosk, Alessandra Ambrosio, Taylor Hill, Martha Hunt and Sara Sampaio walk the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on November 30, 2016 in Paris, France. (Photo by Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images for Victoria's Secret)

Sex apparently didn’t sell for Victoria’s Secret on Valentine’s Day. The company that owns the lingerie and intimate apparel chain — and is famous for its models wearing angel wings — warned that this month’s sales are not going to set investors’ hearts aflame.

Spoiler

L Brands, which also owns Bath & Body Works and PINK, said late Wednesday that same-store sales at Victoria’s Secret may plunge 20% this month compared to a year ago. (Same-store sales measure the performance at stores open at least a year.)

Part of this big decline is due to the fact that Victoria’s Secret killed off its swimwear line last May. It also got rid of its famous catalog in an attempt to save costs.

But L Brands said that the lack of swimwear contributed to just 6 percentage points of the overall drop this month. So it’s clear that Victoria’s Secret has bigger problems than the absence of bikinis in its stores.

Shares of L Brands plunged 16% on the news Thursday, making it the worst performer in the S&P 500. The stock is now down more than 25% so far this year and more than 40% over the past 12 months.

The company may soon face a tougher challenge from Amazon too.

Amazon has already started selling bras from other retailers on its site, but The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Amazon is looking to launch its own line of affordable intimate apparel for women. That could be terrible news for L Brands.

Many retailers had a tough holiday season — and Amazon is largely to blame for that. Macy’s and Kohl’s recently reported weak sales too.

Investors will be keeping a close eye on Nordstrom — who Donald Trump has bashed on Twitter for dropping his daughter Ivanka’s line — as well as JCPenney too.

Nordstrom’s results are due out after the market closes Thursday while JCPenney will release its earnings on Friday morning.

But Walmart and Home Depot just reported solid numbers, proving that Amazon isn’t the only retail game in town for shoppers — or Investors.

Supermodel Adriana Lima Reveals What She Does Before Walking Fashion Shows & Why She Loves Calling Miami Home

Supermodel Adriana Lima Reveals What She Does Before Walking Fashion Shows & Why She Loves Calling Miami Home

Victoria’s Secret’s longest-running Angel and a Miami resident, Adriana Lima elegantly balances her roles as single mother, spiritual seeker, independent woman, and the world’s most beautiful model.

Say the name Adriana Lima to anyone remotely fashion-savvy and you’ll get the same instantaneous response: “I love her!” Indeed, what’s not to love about the 5-foot-10 blue-eyed brunette and self-proclaimed Afro-Brazilian Gemini?

“I’m a one-of-a-kind Gemini, I think,” Lima tells me with the same signature head tilt and sexy stare that have been front and center on countless magazine covers and in myriad fan fantasies. That’s not even mentioning the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, for which Lima has been an Angel for 17 years. She sat it out only in 2009 while pregnant with her oldest daughter, Valentina (whose father is former NBA star Marko Jaric, Lima’s ex-husband). Motherhood didn’t stop her three years later, though, when just two months after giving birth to her second daughter, Sienna (also with Jaric), Lima made jaws drop by reclaiming both her six-pack and the catwalk.

And she’s not stopping at the age of 35. Or as a single mother. “My goal is to do the fashion show till I’m 40, at least,” Lima confesses in her exotic accent, looking out at the crystal-clear horizon and skyline of Miami—the place she calls home. “Or [as long as] gravity is on my side,” she adds, not considering the obvious: that after being named the second-highest-paid model in the world by Forbes in 2016 and Victoria’s Secret’s “most valuable Angel” by the analytics firm D’Marie this January, she’s got more than gravity and lingerie supporting her.

Perhaps it was fate that had her enter (and serendipitously win) Ford Models’ Supermodel of Brazil contest as a camera-shy tween doing a favor for a friend who didn’t want to compete alone. Though Lima might not agree. “I make my destiny,” she says. “Everything is in the power of your mind. If you think positive, you attract the things that you want in your life.”

Mental power coupled with unmatched genes must be why virtually every guy wants to marry her and every girl wants to be her. Linked to the likes of (former fiancé) Lenny Kravitz and her current flame, Super Bowl hero Julian Edelman, Lima has had countless men (and probably women) fall in love at first sight.

“There are different forms of love—you cannot generalize it,” she says. When I ask if she has ever been truly, madly, deeply in love, Lima smiles wide with her mouth and eyes. “I’m in love every day. I wake up and have two beautiful girls before me whose happiness is my happiness.”

Spoiler

An only child raised by a single mother (her dad left when she was just six months old), Lima grew up a devout Roman Catholic, going to church every Sunday. As a matter of fact, before altering her path and moving from Brazil to New York City, where she signed with Elite Model Management, she wanted to be a nun—a far cry from the globally recognized Angel she’s become. But that doesn’t stop her from bringing a Bible to read backstage before shows, praying, or “going to church every day,” although she’s not talking about your typical chapel. “The church is in me—I always connect,” she says. “If you’re connected with the divine and always have pure intentions with everything you’re doing, you’re protected by the angels.” Not lingerie-clad, stiletto-wearing angels, but otherworldly time-and-space-bending beings. “I’m very spiritual. I believe in nature, I believe in energy, I believe in spirits.”

Something else she believes in: aliens. “I don’t picture them as, like, coming to get me or abducting humans,” she says. “I imagine they maybe look like us but with a higher intelligence and connection to the universe.” Extraterrestrials aside, she also has a place (or more like a shrine) in her bedroom for her crystals. “I don’t count, but I have a lot—more than 50.” Amethyst, in case you’re wondering, is her favorite. In other words, Lima is pretty cosmically connected. But she’s grounded, too—even with 9.8 million Instagram followers and the distinction of being the only celebrity to ever star in two Super Bowl commercials in one game, for Kia Motors and the online flower service Teleflora, in 2012. How did she earn such an honor? Simply put, consumers want whatever Lima is wearing—or selling. Case in point: Sales of Kia’s Optima reached their highest point in the company’s history after it received Lima’s stamp of approval. It’s safe to say that anything the bankable beauty touches turns to gold.

So just how does Lima—who has been included in Maxim magazine’s Hot 100, AskMen.com’s Most Desirable Women, Models.com’s Top Sexiest Models, Complex.com’s 100 Hottest Supermodels of All Time, and FHM’s Sexiest Women in the World (four times); has won Spike’s Guys Choice award for Hottest Girl on the Planet; and is one of Google’s 50 most-searched-for women on the Web—stay grounded when she’s pulling in a reported $10.5 million a year and a regular day at the office (like today) involves shooting at a $30 million manse with Victoria’s Secret photographer and dear friend Russell James? “My meditation is boxing, believe it or not,” she says. “I get so into it that no thoughts come in my mind. It’s my Zen moment.” Of course, a knockout like Lima trains only with the best, and in the ring that’s at the same world-famous Miami Beach gym where Muhammad Ali became the greatest, Angelo Dundee’s 5th St. Gym.

“I try to box every day,” Lima says, “but these past few days I’ve been bad.” By “bad,” she means she’s been trading her gloves for a spoon and molten chocolate cake. “It’s my guilty pleasure. If it were up to me, I would have it three times a day.” She’s not joking, either: In the middle of her Ocean Drive cover shoot, Lima got a hankering for chocolate bars to nibble on between outfits. “I eat everything,” she says, “but at the same time, I’m super healthy.” Healthy is as easy as cake when you have an on-call nutritionist and a personal chef to whip you up whatever your heart desires. “The best restaurant in Miami, I have to say, is my home.”

Home for Lima is where she feels closest to her native Brazil. And for the last five years, that’s been the Magic City. “I wanted to find a base where it was always summer, always nice and welcoming, with warm people and a beautiful ocean,” she says. “I just fell in love with Miami. Plus, there are so many Brazilians here, too, so I feel like I’m in Brazil.” If you’re hoping for a supermodel sighting, hit the Arts District. “I love to go walk the streets and Wynwood Walls and look at art.”

Good luck recognizing her, though. “I’m pretty low-key when I’m walking around—I think because people are used to seeing me with makeup and hair and in lingerie.” She laughs, adding, “I usually don’t wear any makeup and [have] my hair up, and I’m always in sports clothes, especially with my kids.” At least when she’s not rocking Victoria’s Secret’s million-dollar Fantasy Bra, an honor she’s had not once but twice.

“It’s a really special thing for an Angel to wear the Fantasy Bra,” Lima says. “It’s the highlight of the fashion show and a surprise. All of us [Angels] are always wondering, Who is it going to be this year?” “Kind of like being named prom queen?” I ask, forgetting that she’s a foreigner. “I’m not sure what a prom queen is, because we don’t have that in Brazil, so maybe you have to wear the Fantasy Bra first before you can say it’s just like that,” she answers, sassily and unapologetically. And in this moment, I grasp who Adriana Lima really is. She’s an independent, second-generation badass single mom who has never let the millions of dollars and accolades she sunbathes in cloud her values or stop her from articulating her religious and spiritual beliefs. She’s simply irresistible while still being innocent yet seductive. And she’s a true role model to her kids, who “understand mommy is a model, but also a businesswoman,” she says—an Angel disguised in lingerie who serves “not just girls [I work with] but the world we live in. I have a lot of energy to expend.”

Where does she get it all from? Girl power runs in her family. “It comes from my mom and my grandmother. Even though my grandmother was married forever—over 50 years!—she was still an independent woman, and seeing how she carried herself made me who I am.” Lucky for us, Lima’s not done passing on her genes: “I always wanted a lot of children. I’m not finished yet.”

In June she’ll be 36, and this December she’ll again walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, maybe even wearing the Fantasy Bra for a third time—that is, unless fate intervenes and makes her Mother Lima for a third time instead.

Gemini: “I’m a one-of-a-kind Gemini, says the self-proclaimed Afro-Brazilian

Fashion show: My goal is to do the fashion show till I’m 40, at least,”

Yes, you read that right,  veteran Victoria’s Secret angel Adriana Lima is coming to Singapore on 10 March.

She will be in town for the launch of the lingerie brand’s new Body by Victoria collection at its flagship outlet, located at Mandarin Gallery.

The event is not open to the public.

This is the first angel visiting the outlet’s flagship store since it opened in November 2016.

This is also the first time the 35-year-old Brazilian model and actress, best known for being a Victoria’s Secret angel since 1995, will be visiting Singapore.

But she may still go to Singapore, since it's 2 days later.

I checked and there's the Miu Miu show in Paris on March 7th; considering that China is 7 hours in advance with respect to France if she walks there she may have problem flying there in time, so her being on that show could be an explanation. It's only a theory, I have no infos about that.
