This stinks. It's crazy to see how quickly this shit is escalating! Each year of the 2020 decade is trying to beat the previous one

The German military is very weak (though they just decided to increase the budget because of the recent events). UK and France are the only "credible" armies in Europe (if you except Russia). Both of them are nuclear powers (though this is supposed to be more of a diplomatic asset rather than a military). ---- The French military has several strengths and weaknesses. The troop training is usually regarded as very qualitative and demanding. Special forces are very efficient (usually regarded as some of the most efficient in the world) and the combat units are very deadly. But the military personnel is small (200k active forces which is comparable to Ukraine's.... and 5x lower than Russia's) There's a "military-industrial complex" (Thales, Nexter, Dassault, DCNS, mostly), like in the US, which means that there's high quality equipment in general (at least, when it's new...). But the military expenditure is small (2% of the GDP, which always was the target), which implies some logistical weaknesses (lack of maintenance, ammo, etc.). It was generally agreed upon experts that our expenditure was too small considering the number of field operations we've had in the recent years. Even if we are a manufacturer (with very good gear), our main battle tank fleet is very very small (about 500, which is ridiculously small - Russia has 22k). We have around 6k armoured vehicles, which is also small. Same for our aicraft capacities (good gear, but quite small fleet - around 250 fighter aircraft, but extremely good gear, especially the Rafale). Choppers are a weak point. The navy is alright. It has several Ballistic Missile Submarines (which means that we can nuke the shit out of anyone - if we want to...). We have one aircraft carrier. Also, our anti-aircraft and cargo aircraft capacities are usually seen as too weak. I've seen several debates about this. We have 300 nuclear warheads, but we no longer have the triad, because the land-based component is out. We still have sea-based and air-based capacities. It's supposed to be highly deterrent against anyone, including nuclear powers, because we can always launch a retaliatory second-strike (I hope it never happens...) Cyber capacities are limited from what I understand, but they have tried to make this up in the recent years.

Who talked about a military invasion? His "move" doesn't have to be military. Xi has many opportunities to weaken Taiwan (economically, politically, socially) to make it "ripe for the taking". China is patient, very patient, it plays the long run game. Look at Hong Kong: China played an extremely refined strategy. They use the propaganda tools in a much smoother way that the Russians. China just buys all the influencers (like the NBA, Disney, etc.) and make them censor people defending Hong Kong or the Uyghurs. It also has lots of politicians in its pocket; not in an "outrageous" way, they don't "corrupt" per se, they just buy influence (which is the legal version of it ). They know the rules of commerce and how to play the game. Regarding military operation, Taiwan is an island which changes everything. You don't invade an island, just like that. The Nazis failed with the UK, because of that (and many before them). The aircraft they send over Taiwan a couple of days ago was just a test. They see Westerners are as weaklings ("Baizuo") and they see Putin's move as an opportunity to test our resistance. As for the military, they have a very similar view on Taiwan: to them, it's part of China. If one day (in the very long run), Taiwan is ripe for the taking, there's no doubt they'll agree. But in my mind, they'll just use other tactics and wait for the Taiwanese to be ready to sell themselves to continental China.

Putin's actions don't make sense and seem very rash. It's definitely a negative-sum game and Russia has a lot to lose. I really don't get it. I hope he hasn't lost it, cause this would be very bad

That's messed up. Most PC players say the same. I'll wait for the patch- General gaming talk
Thanks. Given what I've read/seen, I'll wait for the release of the patch that corrects the bugs on PC. The stuttering and V sync problems seem to be the most annoying. That's what you really don't want on a game. Texture pop-in is annoying too, but not as messed up as stuttering (which gets on people's nerves quite quickly)- The "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" PIP

I really like Klitschko. He's a strong voice and a great fighter.- The "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" PIP
I don't get Putin. He's usually a calculating guy. Cold but calculating. He made a very big mistake here. He escalated very quickly. He also threatened to use his nukes, which is unprecedented. He could've played the power games without getting that far; he'll be treated as unreasonable by many people now. Xi is probably happy to see us destabilized (and it will favour his move on Taiwan), but it's clear he dislikes the brutality of this move. Xi is a much smoother operator in the end. He buys his enemies (including the Americans) and uses economic forms of colonization, which are way more subtle.- General gaming talk
Can you share the links of his vids? Thanks- Model of the Month

Yes, I guess so, but I like AC's characters, so I don't mind. What really bothers me is what they seem to have done with Aloy's character...- General gaming talk
I hear many people saying that the game isn't fully optimized on PC. Lots of folks are angry on Steam, saying that the game has many bugs on PC I understand that many of the good reviews were made on the PS5 version... So once again, we might have to wait for the patches.- The Political Correctness Haters' Club
Agreed. A 100%. I was about to write exactly the same. I can just add that the Russians usually have a very high morale (though I'm unsure if it is the case here).- The Political Correctness Haters' Club
The US failed in the Middle East and the retreat from Afghanistan was extremely humiliating. If I was a US soldier, I'd be very angry at the higher ups in the army. The intelligence service was mediocre and didn't foresee that the Talibans were gonna take the country back. General Milley (the CJCS) is more obsessed with skin colour, finger painting and gender fluidity than with military operations. You can both be a democracy and a strong state. But the West is weaker than ever (and at the same time a bit less democratic - though we're still democracies). I definitely agree with that. And the American media in 2022 lacks the countervailing push of conservatives (Just like they lacked the liberals in the Bush era. BTW, I see many common points between GW Bush and Biden). Compare it with the French media (another western democracy). We have a form of bipartisanship, but a bit blurrier, more flexible, so the media are less polarised (even if they are!) and more nuanced. I think CNN is unwatchable, it's a very low quality network.- The "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" PIP
Have you seen this one? I like the courage of these Ukrainian soldiers.- The "What Are You Thinking About Right Now?" PIP
Calling Ukrainians Nazis is extremely ridiculous and the Russian propaganda has been very mediocre on this front. Dressing up their motives have never been their forte. Also, Zelinsky is jewish, which makes this take even more ridiculous. However, you gotta admit that North Americans have been using this insult more and more often (it's Godwin's law). A CNN anchor said that Trump was a Nazi and compared his tenure to the Kristallnacht (many "celebs" and journalists called Trump a Nazi too). The famous intellectual Whoopi Goldberg had very strange takes on Nazism, which proves that people have very poor historical understanding. Justin Trudeau called the truckers "white supremacists" (which is a sugar-coated version of "nazis"). Many people have lost common sense in the past years.- General gaming talk
I hear people calling Miyazaki a genius. They say the gameplay is full of freedom and rewards for exploring.- General gaming talk
Anyway, I'm really happy for Miyazaki san. He truly respects the player, so he deserves the praise.- General gaming talk
Yep, you can add Naughty Dog to the list of companies that oversold their games. The "Last of Us part II" was one of the worst rip-offs of the video game industry (with disingenuous journalist shilling). Cyberpunk was clearly overyhyped, but it's still a very good game (unlike TLOU 2 - which was garbage)- General gaming talk
I won't have a lot of spare time in the coming days, but as soon as I have I'll play Elden Ring. No doubt now. - General gaming talk
