Why? 🫣 Ryan Gosling to Star in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars Movie Here’s a Star Wars shocker. Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in Shawn Levy’s untitled Star Wars movie which might be shooting as early as this fall (via THR). There are currently no plot details for the film. Gosling is coming off the mega-success of “Barbie.” He recently led last summer’s “The Fall Guy,” and stars in this year’s “Project Hail Mary.” Some of his most notable credits include “La La Land,” “Drive,” “The Big Short,” and “Blue Valentine.” Levy (“Deadpool & Wolverine”) will now be leaving Marvel to work with Lucasfilm, that other subsidiary of the mighty Disney empire. Lucasfilm is now hoping the filmmaker can give a much-needed energy shot in the arm of their struggling Star Wars franchise. Godspeed. Much like James Mangold’s project, Levy’s film is a standalone instalment. It is not connected to the Skywalker cannon which stretches from Episode I-IX. Having Gosling in the mix brings the kind of star power that not every Star Wars movie has, and it surely enhances the intrigue since the actor is known to be very picky in the roles he selects. Levy and writer Jonathan Tropper have been working on their Star Wars movie for two years now. There is currently an untitled Star Wars movie on the release calendar dated for December 2027 — this could be it. Tropper co-wrote the Levy movies “The Adam Project” and “This Is Where I Leave You” (that’s not a good thing). Levy is the stalwart filmmaker behind “Big Fat Liar,” “Just Married,” “Cheaper by the Dozen,” “The Internship,” “Real Steal,” the “Pink Panther” reboot, “Free Guy” and the “Night at the Museum” trilogy. Not a single good movie out of the bunch.

Bit more input @Lilja K Richard Linklater’s ‘Blue Moon’ to World Premiere at Berlin Film Festival The main title you should look out for is Richard Linklater’s “Blue Moon” which is set to screen in competition on February 18 at the Berlinale. This will be Linklater’s first time back at the festival since 2014’s “Boyhood.” “Blue Moon” was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics, and has a cast that includes Ethan Hawke, Margaret Qualley, Andrew Scott and Bobby Cannavale. Production on the film began last summer in Ireland and wrapped up in September. Robert Kaplow, who co-wrote Linklater’s underrated “Me and Orson Welles,” has penned the screenplay. “Blue Moon” is said to tackle the songwriting team of Rodgers & Hart. The film is set primarily in Sardi’s Restaurant on March 31, 1943, the opening night of their musical “Oklahoma!”, which marked Rodgers’s first collaboration with Oscar Hammerstein II as Hart’s replacement. It should be noted that Linklater’s other 2025 film, “Nouvelle Vague,” was submitted for this coming May’s Cannes Film Festival. Paul Thomas Anderson's ‘Baktan Cross' Test Screening This Week; 3 Hour Runtime A test screening is set to take place this coming week for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Battle of Baktan Cross.” I won’t mention which city and on which day, but the invite that was sent out mentioned that the film clocks in at 3 hours. Maybe we’ll finally get to learn more about PTA’s latest in the coming days.

Some people clearly have no humor at all (or the brain for it) 😅 Adam McKay Says ‘Don’t Look Up’ Was “Hated" by “Cultural Gatekeepers" but “Half a Billion" People Watched it on Netflix Last week, “Don’t Look Up” writer David Sirota claimed that the L.A. fires were all the proof needed to know that critics were wrong about his film. Of course, many people called him out as tone-deaf for these comments, and for good reason. In a new interview with NME, Adam McKay. who directed “Don’t Look Up,” at least acknowledges that comparing the movie to what’s going on in L.A. “seems really small and ridiculous,” but he just can’t help but point out, much like Sirota did, how the “critics” and “gatekeepers” unjustly hated the film. “What was inspiring and energizing was the popular response to that movie, not the critics and the cultural gatekeepers who hated it,” McKay said about the movie. He continued, “The estimates of how many people saw that movie – Netflix will never say exactly – but it’s somewhere between 400 million and half a billion. Viewers all really connected with the idea of being gaslit. Being lied to by their leaders, lied to by their big news media, and being lied to by industries. It was funny – when I realized that was the common connection point, I was like, of course! It’s happening everywhere now with this global neo-liberal economy that we’re all living in. It’s such a cancer and everyone is feeling it.” “Don’t Look Up” is Netflix’s second most-watched original film of all time, McKay assuming that half a billion saw the film is batsh*t crazy — has any one film been seen by that many people? The latest Netflix estimates have the film at 171 million views. McKay should know better than to tout the number of views the film received on Netflix. Viewing numbers should never be correlated to the quality of a film. Just look at the Netflix all-time top 10 which includes “The Adam Project,” “Damsel,” “We Can Be Heroes,” and “The Mother.” Back when “Don’t Look Up” debuted on Netflix, McKay caused some backlash by calling the film’s haters “utterly ridiculous” and adding: “If you don’t have at least a small ember of anxiety about the climate collapsing (or the U.S. teetering) I’m not sure ‘Don’t Look Up’ makes any sense.” That’s right, McKay claimed that critics who didn’t like “Don’t Look Up” must also be careless about climate change. This is the same guy who, just a few weeks ago, believed that “Wicked” would be banned under the Trump administration in “3-5 years.” “Don’t Look Up” had two scientists, played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence. touring the country in order to warn Americans about an approaching comet that will destroy the planet. Although Best Picture nominated, the disaster dramedy was ill received by critics; the reviews were mediocre (56% Rotten Tomatoes), and it’s clear Sirota and McKay haven’t forgotten about that.
