Big pharma has almost single handedly destroyed health care affordability in the US with direct to consumer marketing. Other than NZ the US is the only country that permits prescription drug advertising to the general public. The billions of dollars in advertising costs get added to drug prices that consumers didn’t know they couldn’t live without until they saw the commercial. Physicians drop prescriptions like snowflakes simply to silence patients whose personal choices have resulted in a multitude of untreatable conditions. THere are no magic bullets for a smoker with COPD or obese patients with type 2 diabetes but expensive drugs are still covered under most insurance plans. If you want an ED pill you have to pay full ticket because insurance classifys it differently. How do they classify it? Is it a vice? What about a three bucket a week habit of the Colonels Extra Crispy? Isn’t that a vice? Or doze Newports? Why not wash it all down with some some sugary drink and then go home and watch TV to see what will make you feel better. Go beg your doctor for an Ozempic Rx because you really need to spend that extra 200 a month to control you A1C and “Maybe lose a little weight”. While your at it ask about the Movantik ad that promises to help you take dump after gobbling down all that pharma grade opioid you talked yourself into. And wait for it.......the biggest joke of all ..... we blame politicians for “not fixing” the health care problem. That’s like asking a bomb tech to diffuse a bomb that’s already gone off.
