The fashion world in the 1980s-late 1990s (prior to that I am less familiar) was elitist. At its peak you have the supermodels that were very 'elite' and had a superhuman appearance. Now the fashion world is basically socialist and has a 'modern art' aesthetic. Which is basically shit imho.
