Poor Man's Dream Machine
In your first post you said 2x 1 GB DDR2/800 Corsair 2028-6400 C4 $370 DDR2-6400 = 800Mhz so my guess is maximum PC had a typo possibly? unless its DDR2-8000 which is 1GHz or DDR2-8500 which is 1066Mhz And what graphics card am I getting. Well the reason I am waiting for christmas to come around is because the Core 2 Quattro comes out as well as the next generation video cards (all DX 10 compliant, aka vista) which means 2 things, first for the same money you are spending now you should get 50%+ performance boost and if you dont want the best of the best, all the current gen cards should get huge price drops. If I were to get a card right now I would get 1 x GeForce 7950GX2 ~ 500-600 bucks. And in the future once the games start catching up to it I could pop in another and get quad SLI (not to mention another should be like under 300 bucks by then). Or mabye more appropriate for your current machine would be the 7950GT which is the same card as the GX2 (clocked a faster and a single card obviously) so like top of the line current gen it just came out mabye last month and you can get it for like ~$280. but it dont seem you are a gamer so no point in spending 300 bucks on a video card.

Poor Man's Dream Machine
so much for the UDM and I wouldnt consider this a "poor" mans machine considering the price is like 1300 so far. And no offense but may I make some suggestions Get the Core 2 duo E6600 - $320 And I feel you are paying far too much for the ram of that speed. For that price I would suggest you get something that is at least DDR2 1000 Crucial Ballistix 1GB PC2-8000 1000MHz - $190 x 2 = $380 Now with the money saved on the Core 2 and the higher ram speed invest in a better cooling (not nessesarily water) and the E6600 should be able to clock near the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz($950ish bucks) speeds without much of a problem. Its got locked multipliers thus the reason you need the faster FSB (aka ram) So in conclusion you saved like 200+ bucks and get the performance of a machine that would be at least 800bucks more expensive, not bad if you ask me. But thats just me, im upgrading my machine in the near future and that is what I will do, but I am investing more heavily in graphics card then you are but everything else will be pretty similar.

iPods
I thought what a letdown, release the REAL ipod video (the whole face is a LCD that is a touch screen) and the iPhone dammit :trout: not these minor upgrades of products, I guess we will have to wait till the next mac confrence in December *sigh*

iPods
I think there is 2 main options, the option that you mentioned which is like 8 bucks here http://www.amazon.com/Coby-CA-747-Position...p;s=electronics or you could do the FM tuner thingys which I think is more convenient since you could technically take it to another car (since most cars these days dont got cassette players) or a friends house or whatever and play the music there, although last time i checked i think they were like 30+ bucks.

Well the reason I didnt recomend 2x10kpm ones would be cuz then you would have to raid, and since your using the motherboard to raid it it takes CPU cycles up to ~5% so in fact it would slow your system down. If you really wanted to make it fast you would have to do a RAID 5 config in which case you would need at least 3 10krpm and get a dedicated raid controller card like a 3ware 9550sx (i think thats the model) which would put you back anywhere from like 600-1000+ bucks depending on how many ports you want (from 4-16 SATA ports). And 4GBs aint nessesary right now, but say you were ever to get this machine and say you could wait till december, you could get the quad core intel core 2 chips and then 4GBs + Windows Vista and that would be a nice setup. But if you aint using Vista you dont need 4gbs.

nope, 10krpm use to be exclusive SCSI as well as the 15k drives. But now 10k is on SATA you can even get the model with a clear top on the HD so you can see the drive head moving back and forth (assuming u have a window on your case) but its a bit more money, but considering this is an Dream machien then money aint a thang and with regards to 30" response rates, well the issue with big LCDs are ghosting of images in gamming. But I was reading some reviews a while back and it seems that you dont experience it on the current generation dells or apples. I think anything under 16ms is sufficient not to see ghosting
