Meet Fernanda. She’s a pink-haired, anime-loving, 17-year-old model who’s our latest girl crush.
Instantly recognisable thanks to her candy-coloured locks, Fernanda’s star is on the rise. Currently starring as one of the faces of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival, she’s also been been tapped as the latest Bonds girl. Unlike previous Bonds girls like Sarah Stephens and Samara Weaving, Fernanda isn’t from the bombshell mould: she’s got a quirky, unique air that puts her in the same class of “personality” models like Chloe Norgaard and Hanne Gaby Odiele.
We caught up with Fernanda to chat about her latest campaign – and find out how she gets her hair so pink.
Okay, straight off the bat, let’s talk about your hair. Do you dye it yourself? Not anymore! I had been DIY-ing since I was 14, but I’m lucky enough to have Headcase Hair in Paddington take care of it now.
What’s your favourite hair-dye to use? Manic Panic!
What are your tips for maintaining the colour? Wash in cold water (or as cold as you can handle) and mix some dye into your conditioner to keep your colour looking fresh.
Dying can be rough on your locks. How do you keep yours in good condition? I use Redken products to minimise breakage.
Are you tempted to try another crazy shade or is pink your thing? One day I’ll be black-headed again! But for now it’ll stay pink.
You’re an anime/maga fan, right? What are your favourites? Yes! I grew up watching anime! I really like One Piece and Puella Magi Madoka Magica (I actually went to watch the Rebellion screening last week!).
Do you see your interest in pop culture influencing your sense of fashion? Definitely!
Put your iPod on shuffle – what are the first three songs that come up? Expectation – Girls’ Day
Shadow – f(x) Without a Trace – the GazettE
What was it like on the shoot with Bonds? It was heaps of fun! I don’t think I’ve never worked with that many people on set before. The mood was exciting all day, and the team was inspirational. It was such a creative process. And I’m honored to be part of it!
How did you get yourself psyched up for the shoot? Quite boring, I was actually studying for my HSC during that time. So I was swapping between having my head in a book and my face in front of a camera!
Got anything exciting coming up that you can share with us? I go to Tokyo tomorrow!
