ACP publishes the Ralph's and Cleo's, but they also publish the Madison's, Bazaar's, Grazia's, etc. - magazines that she has a good relationship with. I'm a bit neutral on the issue. Sure it would be nice if they went out of their way to ask permission, but then they would run the risk of her saying no. So I see why they don't ask. They don't want to set that kind of precedent.

This seemed like a good thread to bump and use to talk about the recent VS confusions and signings. A continuation of the discussion in Candice's thread They can afford to do it by exchanging larger contracts for smaller ones. Let's say Marisa got $1 million or $1.5 million a year. With her being gone, they could split her salary amongst 2 or 3 girls. And if another big contract was coming off the books as well next year... Let's say Heidi gets $3 or $4 million a year. You could split her salary amongst 6 or 8 girls. You aren't increasing your bottom line financially, but you're getting more for your money. It's like getting rid of that 1 bedroom apartment at $1000 a month and moving to a 3 bedroom apartment in a cheaper complex for the same price. Then at the end of the initial $500,000 test period contracts, you take the $4 million in salary that you're spending on 8 girls and upgrade 3 or 4 of them to angels at $1 million a piece. You're still not increasing salary - just consolidating what you have.

Sure they can. They can afford to do it by exchanging larger contracts for smaller ones. EDITED - I've moved my response to the Who's Who In VS thread so as not to flood Candice's thread with off topic conversation.

Thanks for the info. I figured she was basically a de-facto angel, but I was waiting for her to show up on the All Access page to consider it official. This explains why she hasn't showed up there yet. Maybe she and the other models have something similar to the catalog contracts like (I think) Oluchi and some other models used to have. Oluchi was in ad campaigns, commercials, and at store promotions, but she was always a step below angel.

I wish I could quote TFS posts here. Different tunes are now being sung, and it's very interesting.

Lolita, we'll just have to wait and see. The Necker Island stuff was shot back in September. Things could have changed between then and now. The reason why I'm sure Marisa is gone is not just because her profile is gone, but because she or her management would have denied it at her forum by now if it wasn't true. They are good about keeping her fans updated with all of her work. It's not that way with Miranda. She doesn't have sources around her that leak information - positive or negative. Time will tell. I'm not concerned either way though. That sounds very promising. Normally when she does DJs stuff, she slips info about her upcoming work. We found about V mag and the Miraculous campaign when she was there for the summer launch. Hopefully she leaks info about any spring projects with these events. More than anything I want to see some NY fashion week stuff from her next month. I will keep beating that drum in the hopes that the fashion gods have pity on me, LOL.

I don't think she's too old to do high fashion work either dizzymisslizzy. Now, I will agree that 26 is a little too old to be touted as the "next hot up and coming model", but it's definitely not too old for Miranda to gain work in the field - especially since she looks younger than her age. She was doing runway and editorials before she became an angel, so it's not like she would be suddenly trying something new. If she does mix in more fashion work with the commercial side of things, she would be going back to her roots.
-
True. At 26, she isn't going to be the "next big thing," but a nice mix of the two - commercial and high fashion (with more of a priority on the commercial) would be a good thing. Another Elle editorial and Vogue Australia cover would be nice. She'll never be the quintessential hf girl, but more runway would be good. Commercial girls get so typecast, so to do more runway might earn her respect from designers and maybe increase the likelihood of a campaign. I think it's all related.
-
Ehh... I don't know about that. The lingerie-swim route is so cliche. I think she needs to do some more work wearing clothes IMO. There's no reason why Candice can't ugly it up a bit, do more fashion work. I would probably like her more as a model if she showed more of this kind of diversity instead of the "straight-forward sexy" things. (All of the above is just my opinion. It's not meant to offend or inspire intense rebuttals. It's just what I think. You don't have to agree.)

That's part of the reason why I'm happy she does other work. VS isn't all that she does, so if she doesn't continue with the company, she isn't going to fall off the face of the earth. I don't think a departure by her would an indictment of her as a model. She's famous in Australia. She has her skin care line. She's done quite a few editorials in recent months. Maybe she's getting bored of pushing panties. As great of an opportunity that VS is, maybe some people don't want to have 10 year anniversaries with them. Maybe they want to move on and do other things. michelabella, I don't think she got Balenciaga this season, but I do think she really, really needs to land a fashion campaign and a cosmetics contract. I can totally see her as a Cover Girl saying the "Easy, Breezy, Beautiful" line in the commercials with her accent. Both things would do wonders towards expanding her portfolio. I'll be very disapointed if she doesn't do any of the fall shows next month.

I can't see the Cameron thing at all... Maybe it's just me. After reading some conversations about a few other models, I'm happy that Miranda hasn't fallen into the trap of some of the other VS models. They get the big contract, and then VS is all that they do. I'm glad we still see Miranda doing other work. She had a lot of good editorials in the end of 2009, and I hope there's more to come in 2010. She has a lot going for her and really made the most of her VS opportunity. I like checking her stats on Google Trends, and for 2009, she consistently trended higher than Alessandra, Marisa, Doutzen, and the VS "New Face Nobodies" worldwide. When limited to the US, she was behind Marisa a little more, but still ahead of Alessandra, Doutzen, and the other nobodies. In addition to the editorials (which I hope she continues into the new year), I think she needs to do a few more runway shows, try to land some prominent magazine covers, a mainstream fashion campaign, and the people at IMG need to work to get her a cosmetic contract.

I disagree for quite a few reasons, but this isn't the thread to go into all of that. We have different opinions on the matter. Izabel and Selita had press releases prior to the 2005 show. Marisa had a press release in the summer of 2008. Doutzen confirmed herself in late 2007, but VS themselves never said anything. Miranda didn't get anything. Candice might get a press release or they might do her like they did Miranda. They just threw Miranda straight into doing commercials and events. Facebook is unreliable, so I'm going to assume it's official once/if Candice shows up on the official VS All Access page. There's nothing wrong with others waiting for VS to write a formal statement and say something to a magazine though.
-
VS might not make an official announcement or give Candice a formal introduction - they didn't do either of those things with Miranda. I think she has been made one, but I can see why people would wait until it's a little more clear. I mean why would you trust a source that can't even spell her name right? She isn't listed as one of their supermodels on the All Access site yet. That's a source that can be trusted more than Facebook. The Facebook people corrected themselves on the "new faces" vs "new angels" thing, and I don't think that would have gotten as blown out of proportion as it did if it were not for a couple of people.
-
It doesn't. That's why I started counting at 2004. That's when the oddities begin. You have to be very selective and employ a bit of revisionist history in formulating conspiracy theories. It's no fun when you use things like logic and rational thinking, so those things must be disregarded. I don't think it's intentional on the part of VS that most of their recent fantasy bra wearers haven't stuck around too much longer afterwards. It's a really interesting coincidence though. 4 (possibly 5 with Marisa) angels get the bra and barely last 2 years after that? Strange...
-
^ I posted that the fantasy bra was reaching Madden curse proportions a couple months ago. You can add Tyra to that list as well. Bra = 2004, gone in 2005.

Miranda made Modelinia's 9 of 2009 List

Could the bra have claimed another casualty? 2009 = Marisa Miller? :::cue ominous music:::

Rosie got the Swim 2010 V1 cover. She has new pictures on the servers as well. I don't feel like getting them. Someone else can do it.

It's Miranda. The captions even say "Miranda wears blah, blah, blah." Miranda featured in an Olivier Zahm art exhibition? Source: Art Net

Exactly. VS isn't producing the show to please the hard core regulars and devotees to the brand. It's for the casual viewer, the person who isn't sitting on a message board dissecting every outfit, pining for missing models, and lamenting how 200-whatever was the best year ever. The ratings were typical of how it's been for the last few years. This year was not significantly higher or significantly lower in comparison to the 2007 or 2008 shows. After Tyra left, the ratings dropped significantly. After Gisele left the ratings went up. And in 2009 missing both Karolina and the other one, the ratings basically stayed the same. I think the ratings have leveled off at this point. They seem to have their core group of 7 to 8 million who will watch and the company is looking for ways to draw in the casual viewer - the person not devoted to the brand the way we are. However, it's difficult as the novelty has worn off. They tried the model search. It didn't work. What was "scandalous" and "pushing boundaries" in 2001 and 2002 is simply commonplace in 2009.
