Starfield gameplay!

It looks... alright.

Bethesda were trying to sell it as a revolution, it certainly doesn't look that way.

Funny, it's the future and they are still using libraries : D

Bethesda should update the human animations in their engine.  They still have a robotic appearance and don't seem like real people.

Overall this looks a lot like Fallout 4 in space.

Bethesda uses its own engine called the "Creation engine". It's a very bad engine (they used it for Fallout 4 and 76, it was already below the market). Starfield's version is the upgraded one (CE 2), but it still seems to be average.

They're too proud to use third parties engine.... typical Bethesda

There seems to be some fallout- no pun intended about this game being overhyped.  So far it looks like fallout in space and not a super game.

The game was in development for 8 years, used a large staff in the hundreds and had a 9 figure dollar cost.  I am looking at the footage of the whole game and I'm not seeing evidence of such efforts.  It's a good game but it is limited in scope.

I really like the whole NASA-inspired art direction though.

Overall, it seems like corporate inefficiency due to the franchise running on its brand equity.  A lot of manpower, money and time used and the result was a much smaller game than expected.

I love the concept as well and the game seems pretty good.

However, it doesn't seem to be the great breakthrough they expected.

At least, they didn't completely screw things up like for Fallout 76, so I'd call that a great victory for them

Yea, it really does seem very dated.  It's like a very refined version of the old FO 3, FO NV, FO 4 engine with very good graphics.

CDPR abandoned their REDengine for W4, W1 remake, Cyberpunk 2 and which cost them a lot to develop & cost them their reputation.  They will use Unreal 5.

It seems that the Starfield marketing gave the impression that the game would be a "game changer" and be a mix of No-Man sky, Mass effort, etc. into one game.

From what I've seen so far there is limited free ranged exploration (move around between nodes literally like real life) and it doesn't give the open world feel of the Fallout games.

Also the characters, story are heavily lacking from what I've seen.   And the two space cities are very clean and dull, literally like some places in real life.

overall despite the dated engine I still think if they were more capable they could have created something significantly better and more interesting.

From what I have seen I am most struck by the facial animations, which seem very poor by modern day standards.

I'm interested in seeing what the modding community will do with the game. The same people have kept Skyrim relevant like 10+ years after launch.

I won't try it until I'm done with BG3 and I'm still in the first act in that!

I think developers need to figure out (even CDPR made this mistake in Cyberpunk but not in W3.  Shenmue 1 & 2 were also filled with quests & interactable npcs) that creating an open world filled with lots of soul-less non-interactable npcs is just window dressing.  It is better to densely pack worlds with quests and interactable npcs and make the world smaller if need be.

I think it would have great potential for modding.  I think if the developers learn from the feedback Starfield 2 could be much better.

It would be cool if it had (so far I'm not seeing it) stuff that could invoke the magic of discovery & cosmic horror.

the elephant in the room is the lack of Aliens in starfield and alien factions.

Really cool easter egg- Triss' house in Novigrad is crooked because the house next to it had a long tunnel dug undernealth it to conduct a bank robbery at Vivadi's.  So the ground sunk down and workers are trying to repair it..

I miss the metal gear series.  This was one of the best missions from MGS V

I've restarted BG3 as a Paladin. This class is way better.

I realize that my Wizard/Fighter multi-class is not that good... They're too many wizard spells (and too costly), it's too weak at the beginning, then it seems ridiculously powerful. The fighter part brought me the capability to use swords (I cannot not use swords in a game like that), but I can't wear heavy armor.

The new Ac looks like it's returning back to the roots.  It looks a lot like the original AC

^ they're remaking the same game one more time... so, what's the point?:idk:

BG3 as a Paladin is amazing. I like this role, it's way better.

I think Marta (who is polish) may be what Sapkowski imagined Sorceresses were like in the Witcher books.  CDPR's Gwent team also shows this.

Yeah, it's basically a remake lol. I kind of like the setting but it got too messy for my liking as I went through the game.

There is also a Samurai AC being developed so that it different.
