As this annis horribilis limps off, we should kiss it good riddance with a big vulgar bash. But who’s got the cash or nerve for such an extravagance while jobs and nest eggs are evaporating right and left.

Good thing there are yesteryear’s parties. Crashing them vicariously — you don’t even have to put on shoes — is part of the fun of "The World in Vogue: People, Parties, Places."

"Parties" is the second smallest but most boisterous chapter of this large 389-page coffee table bauble. The section documents lavish society weddings and several Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute galas (considered the city’s premier parties).

The best spread is ancient history, from the now-legendary Black and White Ball that Truman Capote threw in 1966 for 540 celebrity guests.

Most are gone. Even the youngest attendees, like Mia Farrow, newly married that year to Frank Sinatra, are in their 60s.

Among the many photographers at the party, Lawrence Fried shot the Principessa Luciana Pignatelli wearing a 60-carat diamond on her forehead. People were unafraid of outrageous display in those days.

A "grab-the-stone-and-run look comes over everyone who sees it," reported Gloria Steinman, who was covering the ball. Nice to hear that the beautiful people aren’t immune to envy.

A few newcomers got into the book, namely the president, first lady and first daughters, photographed by Ms. Leibowitz on the White House lawn.

Some subjects — models, actresses or ex-models — are so preposterously photogenic, they have their own chapters.

Iman, the Kenya-born 1970s supermodel, shares several frames with her clearly besotted husband, David Bowie. He’s one of the few men in the book.

Of course, fashion (rather than mere celebrity) drives both Vogue the magazine and the book. How else to explain the jacket-cover selection? A red-carpet moment, it’s a shot of nearly makeup-free Giselle Bundchen and Tom Brady arriving at last year’s Costume Institute ("Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy") bash.

Unlike much of what’s in the book, it’s not a staged/styled fashion set-up, but an on-the-fly, lucky catch by Dimitrios Kambouris. The point is Giselle’s wearing Versace. And, yes, that is veteran, highly respected fashion photographer Bill Cunningham’s camera in hand at the far right, on the carpet where he belongs.

because she is considered "'hours concours'" which I guess means "beyond top model" icon,etc..

Two weeks ago we learned that a major celebrity couple had an amazing waterbirth at home, partly inspired by BOBBSmile Since they haven't spoken about it to the media (as far as we know) we'll just give you a "hint" - supermodel + football star. yeah I've been wonderng that too. I know they exclude the models who are/were pregnant, like they did for ale. So Gisele,Heidi,Adriana might not be on the list. Gisele still could be though, bc she isn't completely "inactive" with her sandals line and hotel.
