The idea of a GTA/Deus Ex hybrid still sounds great to me, but I do wonder if the game has become so huge and expectations have grown so much, it simply can't be what everyone wants.

I think they could have downsized Night City by 50% or more and dropped say total game length to about 40-50 hours.

Then give it the Shenmue/Yakuza like first person dynamic immersion that fans want and increase the surprise! factor and randomness of the gameplay rather than have it tied to quests.  Add the RPG features that it's missing.  Improve the NPC AI and design routines for them.  Basically the rabid fans wanted a city that was "alive" not just in an external sense that it is in the game. More density and less scope.

Make the Driving AI and try to replicate the GTA police, chaos, & free roam dynamic.  The driving system should be much deeper than cosmetic.  It looks to me that there is no point in using a car anyway since there is no driving AI.  Just get the Akira motorcycle and speed through traffic.

Also improve the combat gameplay.

This company is a jewel. I love CD Projekt. They admit when they're wrong and they make amends. No one else does that. No one.

EA never apologized for the loot box scam and how they made mediocre SW games (except Fallen order, which is really good). Bethesda never apologized, never refunded anybody when they FUBARed Fallout with Fallout 76 (which was a scam and a very very mediocre game).

Angry gamers don't deserve to have a nice company like CD Projekt.

I side with CD Projekt a 100% (and the game is beautiful on PC  - as for the bugs, they'll be corrected soon).

Then why did they refuse to send out any console versions to reviewers and also prohibited them to use their own material? So the obvious problems with those versions couldn't be published beforehand? Seems very shady to me.

That was a communication mistake. That's a lot less shady than what thieves like EA or Bethesda do. Remember Naughty Dog and their disgusting game (Last of us 2)? They also forbid communication around the game and they sued defenseless youtubers for thin reasons. Very shady and not customer oriented.

CD projekt didn't lie. They didn't add lootboxes. They didn't screw up the game and the spirit. They made a mistake they'll never do again, but they're still a 100 times better than any other game company.

Look what it brought them. The punishment is already big.

Also, they refund gamers. Name me one gaming company who does that. Did Naughty Dog refund gamers after their lies? (about Joel and killing dogs - which was important for some gamers). Did EA or Bethesda refund us? No.

It's going to be enormous. The studio executives wanted to get the game out for the holidays and this is the outcome. It's going to be a shitstorm when Sony lawyers come for their refunds money.

At its worst, CDR stock hit a low of $65.19 on Monday, down more than 46% since the day before the first Cyberpunk 2077 reviews hit the internet.

This is why the trailers/reveals should have been relied on as proof of progress, not wordplay and promises.  Most of the trailer footage is in the game.

The main false advertising in the trailers was the crowd density in the city center.  Also IIRC a bunch of sequences with Female V implying extremely close interactivity with the environment that didn't end up being in the game.

Witcher 3 also had some false advertising (in-game footage that looked way too good)

River Ward/ (who looks like Vin Diesel XXX) is the biggest side quest character in the game.

Wow, that's more than I thought.

I still enjoy the game a lot. It's still a high quality game IMHO (even if the promises they made were too beautiful).  I've just played it again for a couple of hours. I had few bugs but nothing serious (I had one NPC weirdly floating on a chair and a popup message that wouldn't close).

Maybe they should've waited another month or two (but then some gamers would've been crazy - the same gamers that now are angry the product is not finished:/). I won't play the game a lot during holidays. Hopefully, when I get back, there will be huge patches.

I didn't see any game breaking bugs in COH's walkthrough.  The bugs are effecting console players the most it seems.

I am up scanning to video 133 on COH's playthrough on very hard.  After 105 he started going after the ganga missions eg. 6th Street, Valentinos, Gorillas, etc. That's approx. 70 hours plus and it's still going.  Basically you have a game with a huge amount of decent content.  This is the most ambitious GTA-style open world game ever made.

If the Witcher treatment is followed, gamers should get the DLCs and patches for the next year or two.

Also management and shareholders trying to pressure them to release a product that lacks polish.

A smaller map and higher quality game with less development time and funding could have been possible.  Even as a viewer, I can see that the game has overambition and ego written all over it.  I've never seen a game with more detailed work done for the various districts.

Also the marketing / hype train was the most aggressive I've ever seen for a game.  dozens of trailers and promotional specials, product tie ins, big investment in advertising, Keanu Reeves, etc.  The Cyberpunk twitter had a trollish / wind up vibe to it, constantly fanning the flames of imagination and desire.

I expect they'll have sensed the backlash coming ahead of time, hence the very selective media they were feeding people pre-launch. Another cautionary tale, I suppose, on the risks of believing the hype of a game based on little more than game publication “previews” that were probably written on the strength of two hours of gameplay.

Thinking back to the marketing and with the benefit of hindsight, there was very little to give the impression that Cyberpunk was developed with consoles in mind. The base-level versions are just too poorly optimised to suggest that they were making concessions for those systems at any point in its development. Again, to me, it's a next-gen PC game with consoles as a secondary consideration.

Obviously I hope they can turn it around for the next-gen systems, but I'm far from optimistic about the current-gen ones.

I get the idea of wanting to do something that shows off the new hardware, but at the end of the day, it might have been a better idea to focus on PS4/Xbox One and then do a remaster for the new consoles sometimes next year, similar to what Rockstar do with GTAV.

No doubt they'll have been looking at potential sales from the established user base, when the more reasonable thing would have been to just release on systems with hardware that can actually handle the game.

I can't imagine this does anything other than kill console version sales stone dead. I dare say CDPR must be almost neck and neck with Elon Musk for failed launches at this point.

I think there were always going to be questions asked after the CEO said two weeks before release that the game ran "surprisingly well" on PS4 and Xbox One. They must have had an inkling by that point that they were shipping a broken product and that those versions would be in no shape to sell.

This isn't on the people at CDPR who only had artistic control of the game, of course. I can't imagine they would have wanted this thing released in its current state.
