I just came home from watching it! I had high expectations for it and my expectations were met, it's truly amazing. Chris & Daniel killed it with the acting, they portrayed James & Niki perfectly. I feel like they didn't try to make them heroes or something, they portrayed them as humans with the good and the bad, they just felt human, they felt real. Also I love that they didn't over do it with the F1 scenes, they put the right amount of races and they put them right when they were needed.

I saw the extensive highlights for this film on accident :   https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLI1zuZdCSlNZeSNYPLYIH25RUL74aBFND

and I don't regret it.  Every scene was inspirational and charismatic.  I will see the whole thing later, but I just loved the theme of competition with 2 diametrically opposed personalities that plays out throughout.  Really good film set in the 1970s, and good acting with a glamorous setting.  Ron Howard directed "A Beautiful Mind".  This makes at least two bio-pics that are entertaining and involved.

spoilers, obviously:

You should totally watch the full movie, as I said before it's really good. It sucks Daniel didn't end up getting the Oscar nomination and that Hemsworth got overlooked by critics (as usual) just because he's a handsome man but I loved the movie. Especially because I love F1 and I was terrified it would end up being something like Need for Speed o.o

I was a bit late to the party on this one, but it was very good, even if you're not into F1 (which I must confess, I'm not). The race sequences are breathtakingly done with some incredible camera shots. Some over-dramatisation of events and things that probably didn’t occur, although that's nearly always required in order to make a biopic work.

Hemsworth's portrayal of Hunt was more sympathetic and complex than the simplistic (and often quite negative) image he seemed to acquire over the years, and some of his backstory must have been quite hurtful. Most Brits probably have much less idea of what Lauda was really like, but I thought Bruhl stole the show with his portrayal. A reminder of just how tough and brave he must have been, to be back racing inside 40 days after what he went through is just astounding.

Is Hunt a big deal in Britain?

Interesting Claudia- you like formula 1?  In the US Formula 1 is overshadowed by domestic competitions.

Sorry for my late response (I forgot this thread) I did see it shortly after I write my post.  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  It's a very positive movie and stands out as having good re-watchability.  Hemsworth was very appropriate for the role.

From what I can gather, he was pretty big news at the time. I've been told that 'Rush' only hints at the wilder side of his personal life, and that the stories of what he got up to are so numerous and outlandish, they sound more like folklore than fact. The movie seemed to concentrate more on his reputation as a competitor, probably as an intentional counterbalance to his notoriety away from the racing track.

Hmmph, it seemed to me that Hunt more like "you're dad's icon" rather than someone that would resonate with the current generations of Britons.

I have watched this movie. Great movie and what makes it even better is that it was based on a true story!
