I still haven't seen too many of the contenders yet because they aren't out in Australia. I have seen The Imitation Game and Into the Woods and will be watching Birdman this week. Excited for Michael Keaton I think he will end up going all the way and winning the Oscar. Great for Patricia and J.K. also. Two hard working actors who have been around a long time and long deserve their due just like Julianne Moore. Seems like it's the year of the long hard working actor.

Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt, Emma Stone and Julianne Moore looked the best too.

Almost everyone I wanted to win actually won, finally a good year  Shame about Idris Elba and Beasts of No Nation, he should have won Best Supporting Actor and overall the movie just didn't get the recognition it deserves, hopefully the Oscars will follow the SAGs and not the GG

Bohemian Rhapsody winning Best Picture is a surprise, at least when you consider it was not a critic-loved film. It is very rare for a film to win with the average reviews this film received.

I believe many reviewers had historical accuracy issues with the film, which may not translate to  awards voters since they are generally voting based on the film's quality and may not factor in the accuracy of the story in comparison to real life. That's only a guess, though.

Odd one, that. Bohemian Rhapsody was a perfectly okay biopic even if you're not a Queen fan (which I must confess, I'm not), crowd pleasing and with a commendable lead performance by Rami Malek, but there was nothing about it that would believably push it into the realm of 'Best Film of the Year' status.

Nature is healing and I'm ready to complain bitterly about award nominations again.

My impression of Mank was that it came and went without generating much excitement, it's been a bit surprising to see it so widely represented here. Truth be told though, my plan was to revisit Citizen Kane before watching and I've yet to get around to it.

For what it's worth, I feel like Da 5 Bloods will get more attention at the Oscars, particularly given the "optics" of snubbing it in 2021.

I think many movies came and went without excitement this year, mainly due to people not going to see movies in person. My guess is another impact from people not going to see movies is going to be a general lack of interest in movie awards this year (that may mean more interest in TV awards?).

I would have expected Mank to get a lot of support from voters because they seem to like movies about Hollywood, particularly from that time period.

I expect Schitt's Creek to pick up some awards here, but it probably won't have a run like it did at the Emmy's.

These nominations along with the SAG nominations tomorrow should give an early idea what to expect at the Oscars.
