Victoria's Biggest Secrets: Things We Learned From Queen Victoria's Underwear

Looks like world-culture magazine National Geographic has taken an interest in lingerie this week—and unearthed its own Victoria's secret while they were at it!

Andrew Evans, the publication's designated digital nomad who continually sends dispatches from wherever he is on earth at any given time, reports that among all the lifestyle and architectural artifacts on display at the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Canada, the one item he was most taken by was a pair of Queen Victoria's underpants. Yes, as in underwear worn by the longest-reigning British monarch (and the world's longest-reigning female monarch).

Here are three things we learned from Evans' exploration of Queen Victoria's skivvies:

1. Queen Victoria wore cotton undergarments—"plain, white, and square," Evans says.

2. Queen Victoria may have had a 50-inch waist. No, seriously. "I would make a rough guess and report that Her Royal Highness boasted a 50-inch waist (or more)," he writes. "And at the time that she wore these flowing bloomers, the Queen of the United Kingdom and Empress of India carried considerable girth."

3. Queen Victoria's underpants are powerful, sort of. "Standing so close to such an everyday object that belonged to one of the most powerful rulers on earth was 'awesome' in that I was overcome with a sense of awe and wonder," he says.

A Casting Director on What It's Really Like to Model in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Personally, I think it's hard to imagine an experience more nerve-racking than walking that long runway for the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show.

All the models have to be in perfect condition, with bombshell hair, bronzed bodies, and expertly applied makeup for the nationally televised event. Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Adriana Lima have always looked like they are having the best time on the runway, but behind the scenes, it's definitely not as easy as it looks! It turns out they had to endure an intense casting process before they made the cut. Yes, even Victoria's Secret Angels have to audition to be on the show!

It's quite terrifying for them," Sophia Neophitou-Apostolou, the show's creative director, told Vogue U.K.."They are provisionally cast by John Pfeiffer, but the final decision is made by the whole team, sitting at this long table in a room with really harsh lighting and they have to walk toward us and away from us. They all have to do it—even the contracted girls—and it's incredibly nerve-racking for them."Sophia likened the casting process to that of an athlete, training for the Olympics! "It's not about being thin or anything like that—it's about being ready to perform and be the best you can be in that moment."

Sophia wouldn't discuss who made the cut this year, so I guess we'll just have to wait until Nov. 14, when the show takes place in New York City!

Doutzen signed her first VS contract around end of 2007 beginning of 2008 right? And then 3 years later she signed again from end of 2010 beginning of 2011. So her 3 year is ending right after the show. Do we think she's gonna sign again or looks like hers is up. Seems like its up but I'm hoping she stays a few more years. Doubtful.

Are you sure its for shipwrecked? In the interview Doutzen says she has 3 looks, one with wings and 2 outfits: Snow Angels and Shipwrecked which she is opening

It never says the 3rd look so that makes me think the one she's wearing is the one she doesn't say.
