The ordinance they expended on the target is a high value asset and the US only has a small number of them.The Iranians have proven designs (in Ukraine) of missiles/drones designed to exhaust Western AA missile stockpiles and make it very expensive. The Patriot AA missile costs more than the missiles that are shot at it and usually a lot more than the object getting struck.If this conflict manages to end soon then it would be money worth spending but if it doesn't and the US has to constantly expend AA missiles/airstrikes in the middle east for years it would cost a lot.
