This dogma is melting countries like acid. France is the most successful military power in history, but embracing very “progressive” ideas made it so weak it collapsed in 1940. You can only have peace, intellectual prowess, thriving art and safety for the weak in a strong country. Far-leftism make countries flimsy. It's also happening in the US, right now.

November 23, 20231 yr I've almost done re-reading Blood of Elves, Book 3 of the Witcher series. Re-reading this after the show and going through the games a second time has made me appreciate and catch so many more details than the first time I read it.

But I prefer Phoenix "older" look over botox any day. But since this movie also works as a satire (even better I heard from some critics) I think his washed up look is kinda perfect for the role. Also didn't age people much faster back then than nowadays? Napoleon was in his 30s. He died 'young' for modern standards (age 51). I am ok with historical inaccuracy as long as they get the spirit of the times correct. It's almost impossible to make a truly historically accurate war film. Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven were very historically inaccurate but were great films. It would have been better to make a Napoleon film a few years after Gladiator if he wanted to cast J.Phoenix though. For me his Commodus is the best dramatized depiction of the historic emperor I could ever imagine. I love it!

He's really great in GLADIATOR but same for Russell Crowe. Period cinema at the finest. I don't think Scotts intention of NAPOLEON is historical accuracy but more how gossip and rumors shape that history.

I've looked a bit at the film already and my first impressions just from skimming around: 1. J. Phoenix looks exhausted & defeated the whole time and looks out of place. His voice is very tired sounding as well. 2. Very good props but the filming is shot 'very close' and there is a lack of feeling of the expanse. Everything is all clustered together. 3. The film looks to suffer from "final cut" issues like Blade Runner and most seriously, "Kingdom of Heaven". As in the film itself is naturally 3 + hours long but Scott had to remove critical content for the theatrical cut. So it jumps very rapidly throughout Napoleon's career. 4. There seems to be lack of coverage of Napoleon's massive social impact in europe, which any balanced biopic should focus on. 5. Josephine and Napoleon look like an odd couple and out of place. Like a tired old man with a young woman. Otherwise it looks very interesting and I'll watch it when I get a real copy. The napoleon war films made in Russia and Waterloo (1970) are generally considered the best:;
November 23, 20231 yr Ridley Scott says His 4-hour Director’s Cut of ‘Napoleon’ to be Released on Apple TV+ — World of Reel Ah, makes sense now. I think I will wait for the 4 1/2 hour cut. The 2 1/2 hour theatrical cut has so much missing content.

The DC of KoH was an entirely different movie. I think Napoleon + Josephine being an "odd couple" is the heart of the movie 😄 4 1/2 hours - but people think Killers of the Flower Moon or Avatar and The Irishmen were long? lol

I strongly suspect that the 'final cut' will be a much better film like Kingdom of Heaven.
November 24, 20231 yr Cutting down a movie to please the crowd (who's still not pleased most audience reactions of Napoleon are very medicore lol) is mostly a bad idea and not helping a movie/storyline/character development at all. I think I only liked once a theatrical cut better than the director's cut. Even the unofficial extended cut of TITANIC is much better than Camerons offical version he clings on since forever while making one stupid cut after another of those god awful boring Avatar movies.

It seems that the self-loathing agenda that the socialists have kept pushing in France for years is not working any more. France was once one of the most prosperous countries and one of the biggest military powers in history. It's about time we celebrate it. And it's the same for most Western countries. This civilisation had some of the best ingredients for prosperity.

BTW, both of these things are linked: you can't have prosperity in a weak country. Military strength ensures peace and the prosperity of intellectuals, artists, etc.
